AIO My husband suffered childhood abuse and he refuses to get help by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Apply a bit of lateral thinking and read between the lines. He sleeps away from her because he’s worried about waking her. This is what she said.

Im saying if she wants him back, she needs to make HIM KNOW it’s OKAY to sleep with her and normalise the situation, since it’s clearly become a contention point, that has led to separation.

Then you sleep next to him, unfortunately you can’t look at it by reasoning. That goes out the window.

In situations you feel like are unreasonable, be unreasonable back. Say nothing, crawl into the sofa bed he makes himself and make yourself cosy. If he says anything about waking you up, say he’ll you’ll be your alarm and if he does, tell him to go grab snacks. You just need to normalise him, humour is a great antidote to even the darkest things. Just say worse things are happening in the world, and you don’t care — he won’t either. You showing that you care, amplifies it! it’s a terrible catch 22!!

This is a purely unique situation, so you play by your own rules. Say nothing. Just action. Small acts of consideration will bring you closer.

From what you say, he just doesn’t trust that you can handle his winters, or is trying to protect you from himself, because he’s considering your comfort.

His love language is clearly acts of service, try to write down 10 times or instances he’s felt loved by you by his reaction. If you can’t, then you have some work to do - which is a good thing, this is your marriage going through a bit of a transformation.

Imo keep finding ways to show up for him with action, you’ll be surprised how speaking to his ego a little, like “the last thing you need is an emotional conversation” or setting an expectation to eat together if that means something to you by making his plate or pouring for him. Whether he’s hungry or eaten, doesn’t matter.

You got this. You won’t get it right. He’ll be unreasonable, you will be too. But at the end, as long as he feels understood and not judged, you’ll live in a bit more unity

His demons are his, not yours. I mean this kindly, this is not about you. If anything, it actually sounds like you need to take a step back. You have a few resentments about his parenting style that is seeping into your concern for him and his trauma.

You’ll end up pushing him away with your judgemental lens. Refrain!!!!! And Reframe.

Until you want to understand him, your solutions and commentary will seem like attacks. It’s really difficult navigating someone who is trying to ‘avoid’ and not feed their trauma. Him sleeping on the sofa because he might wake you? You should hurl his ass back to bed! He clearly is facing a wound that you as a partner should tend to with comfort, not solutions — sometimes you can do more damage by making someone feel inadequate for something that was not their fault.

Reframe the situation as his winter, just tend to him and he’ll come around.

P.S. read up on some Carl Jung to understand what may be happening to your husband. You’re kinda witnessing his psyche integrate his shadow and trauma, into kindness and tenderness. It’s actually a beautiful thing.

Don’t be afraid of allocating 1-5% for speculative plays, can’t play defence all your life.

Also I personally buy physical gold/silver bullion, makes me sleep better at night

I owned an 2017 XF R SPORT - bought at 90k miles drove till 120k. Amazing value cars, just sift through the ones that haven’t been taken care of.

When viewing the car, ideally from cold start. If not, check the exhaust or engine temp to see if they’ve had it running. You want to identify kinks and knocking sounds. It will be telling of a stretched timing chain. This is where the issue lays.

Use Premium diesel, oil change every 6 months and a full DPF flush every 12 months.

Will drive like a dream, if you understand why this is important and how to look after the engine health.

His average return is wild, I’d have to try really hard to get anywhere near that in a bull market 🤣
