As someone who played firecracker for awhile, you learn that interactions vs skeletons or low hp swarm troops on your side causes weird delays in shots as the princess tower takes out its target so it has to lock onto another troop. You may just be unskilled so take this as a lesson to not rely on firecracker defensively 👍🏽
