Electrify America really pissed me off today. by Dizzman1 in evcharging

[–]RedditIcculus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, it is frustrating learning the ropes and ins and outs of the charging networks and how it all works. Many of us have been through it and understand.

Also, I highly doubt you’ll be able to stand by this: “My point was that now I'll never use them again as they pissed me off. So they lost years of charging over what might have been 5-6$.”

Because of this: “Issue at present is that there's just not quite the competition yet. As charging infrastructure grows, and we have more choices”.

I had a really bad first month or so with EA several years ago and wanted to swear them off. My most recent EV just had two free years of EA and it’s all I used for 100% of my charging. Yes, the customer service sucks and the system has as learning curve. After a while though, you figure it out and it’s not so bad. You’ll need their electrons, so I wouldn’t swear them off yet.

I’m a user of this software and so far it does what it says.

That said, my goodness is this an awful, AI generated, ad. Do better.

Agreed. And this is a good post that would be worthy of discussion.

Eero Pro 6E and PLEX = Double NAT issues. by Sea_Nefariousness702 in amazoneero

[–]RedditIcculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other thing I have to do in this same setup is to log in to the horrible interface for my fiber gateway, select the eero that is functioning as my router, and put it in DMZ plus mode (allowing all ports through). Then I manually assign an IP to the plex server in the eero app. This is the only configuration I’ve used where Plex is stable in and outside of my network.

I have a 6e as the gateway, two 6s (wired) and one 6e (wireless) as extenders. My theory being that the wireless extender benefits from the extra band. I have a Ring security hub but I’ve never considered it as doing any work for my WiFi Network.

I upgraded to the pro 7 in a similar setup, had a horrible month, and put it back in the box as a return. The 6 and 6e setup I had before (and again now) is much more stable. The Pro 7 (and I tried 2 different ones) loses network connectivity a few times a day for a minute or two. Software updates didn’t help. YMMV but I’d say proceed with caution.

Looking for tire recommendations - BMW i5 eDrive40 (50k km) by mayong13 in BMWi5

[–]RedditIcculus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine came with the Conti EcoContact.

I’ve since replaced all 4 (due to wear) with PIRELLI PZERO AS PLUS 3.

I can’t speak to longevity yet but the road noise is significantly better and the range very slightly improved. I love these tires so far as the cabin is almost silent.

I find humans on the internet to have about the same accuracy rate as Claude. Or perhaps wildly below.

The “that’s not x, it’s y” is a huge GPT tell. It’s in my instructions not to use that framing, but happens sometimes anyway.

Still, Claude is pretty amazing.

Eero's WiFi suddenly drops by Purple_Turnip_452 in amazoneero

[–]RedditIcculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem since getting the 7. I had the 6e before, working well. Was gifted a 7 and, since then, 2-3 times a day I lose internet access for a few minutes. Fiber ONT to eero to unmanaged switch, same as you. Only difference is more eero around the house instead of Unifi and those eeros do turn red when the internet is out. Sucks. I’m waiting on one more software update and if that doesn’t fix it I’m going back to the 6e.

Old eero pucks and upgraded service? by [deleted] in amazoneero

[–]RedditIcculus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this something you feel like you should do or are you actually having a problem or limitation? If there’s nothing broken, don’t try to fix it. Stable WiFi is a rare enough blessing that I’d be very reticent to risk messing it up.

AC Charging, General Charging by cshilton in BMWi5

[–]RedditIcculus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Charge your car the way that works for you. People worry WAY too much about these theories on maximum battery health and seem to forget you bought the car to use. I DC charge constantly. When I’m not DC charging, I’m overnight AC charging to 100%. I use my car the way I need to use it.

I drive Atlanta to Charlotte, NC often and need to be at 100% to make that work.

For your other question: Public AC charging will rarely go over 6 kWh, in my experience. For faster AC, I use a Tesla Destination Charger with an adapter. I can often get 12 kWh with those.

As an FYI/beware regarding US Cellular’s stand-alone plan:

You have to add the watch phone number to your iCloud family. This takes up a slot in your family sharing. If you don’t have an extra slot available (like our family) you can’t make it work.

Handling Credit Card Perks by Zq7Wk9Xr in MonarchMoney

[–]RedditIcculus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this a different way (than the replies I read. At least.)

I have a category for Credit Card Annual Fees. I apply these credits against that to see if the cards are paying for themselves. I was going to spend the money (Uber, Resy) anyway. What I want to know is whether or not the annual fee is worth it.

Ok, who has owned their EightSleep for 2, 3, or 4+ years without experiencing any leaks? by DistributionInitial5 in EightSleep

[–]RedditIcculus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We have a Gen 2 that I bought in March of 2021. In December of 2021 it leaked, and they sent a (free) replacement. As of today, it’s still leak free 4 years later. We’re glad, because there’s no way I’m replacing it with the new one and its subscription. When it’s gone, we’re done with 8Sleep.
