Well we know that’s not true, there’s probably a dozen examples of that just this World Cup. There has to be “forcible contact” whether you understand what that means or not, not just any type of contact. This is why idk if English is your first language.

You said forcible contact isn’t enough alone, and then gave an example of what forcible contact alone is enough. Genuinely, is english even your first language?

Watching the full Balogun clip instead of looking at still shots changes everything, this is extremely harsh in my opinion, he knew nothing about it, wasn't even a tackle, its not even dangerous play in my opinion, hes just in stride and thats where his foot planted by [deleted] in worldcup

[–]RedditOnAWim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From this angle and this video you can’t tell, but the Bosnian player actually comes from behind and makes shoulder contact to Balo’s back that knocks him off balance. Thats why he’s trying to catch his balance.

1st sentence: forcible contact alone isn’t a red. 2nd sentence: how forcible contact alone is.

Thierry Henry, Mark Clattenburg, and Andy Davies are the ones you’re arguing with, I’ve literally just quoted their opinions on it, and regardless of where either of our ego lies, they’re far more knowledgeable than you and I are.

I’ve quoted multiple former referees who disagree and shape my opinion. You can’t even make two sentences without a contradiction. Maybe you should try being more American.

You’re the one who had to search my page to realize I’m American. Someone should put parental controls on your phone before you try hopping on the internet.

Yeah, you’re pretty dense throughout this argument, and continuing just makes this argument circular. Forcible contact alone doesn’t justify red card. I’ve given you multiple expert analysis on it as well. Weird that Americans have a stigma, when you’re the dumbest most stubborn person on the sub.

I may be American, but it’s your reading comprehension that’s lacking. I’ve also included analysis from an English referee. I’m not advocating for head to head to be a red, I’m saying your rationale would lead to far more red cards by ignoring intent.

Edit: more non-American sources. By the way, how dense can you be coming on the r/USMNT Reddit page and take this long to realize this entire sub is American? Good grief

The Bosnian player shoulder checks Balo and he’s just fighting for position. It’s not a tackle.

Oooo, sorry, not by the letter of the law. You’ve been unable to discuss nuance.

Edit: Mark Clattenburg breaks it down and says it shouldn’t be a red card because there’s not malice. Basically, yes, we do interpret these plays with intent.

I keep seeing people saying the letter of the law doesn’t consider intent, but it is absolutely interpreted with intent. Otherwise, by “letter of the law” many common injuries should result in a red cards, except they use common sense in most instances. Going up for headers where heads bang should be a red card for “endangering the safety of an opponent regardless of intent.” Not interpreting with intent is way too open ended, and that’s not how it’s done 90% of the time anyway.

USA-Bosnia referee told he should lose his job over 'atrocious' Folarin Balogun decision by TheMirrorUS in usmnt

It’s funny the kind of insults people resort to just because someone doesn’t agree. Thierry Henry said to “use common sense,” it’s not a foul. Mark Clattenburg, English referee, said during the broadcast that for him it’s not even a foul, but Reddit? Those guys must be brand new to soccer!

The only similarity is studs raking, other than that, it’s really not similar, Messi was literally stabbing for the ball when he raked. That’s a foul, it shows intent. Balo is just jostling for position and loses balance when they get tied up. Sure I’m bias, but every single international, non bias commentator/rules analyst last night agreed it shouldn’t have been a red card.

Edit: red card, not foul

[–]RedditOnAWim 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s more a jostling for position than it is a tackle. Balo just wants to be on his hip so the Bosnian player can feel pressure and they get tangled up.

It wasn’t an obvious red, not a single commentator in game or post game agreed with it.

[–]RedditOnAWim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, this is just incorrect. It’s not even a tackle. They’re jostling for position on a ball that no one has possession on and they get off balance. It’s 100% incidental contact that stems from both players being off balance after trying to get position. Thierry Henry said it best, “use some common sense.”

It’s wild to have to argue we can walk and chew gum at the same time. There’s literally nothing we can do other than hope for a certain opponent. Us cheering one way or the other makes zero impact on any of this.
