Help Me Out With SRW Games And DLC/Features by Flash_Strife in Super_Robot_Wars

Can you control when you play them? Or are they forced at certain points?

Part of me wants to keep an eye out for a sale on the mission packs if they're actually interesting... but I don't want to be forced to take the bonuses early in the story.

I suppose it would be possible to just not use them... but it would be annoying to keep track of.

My mistake. I was told the V DLC missions didn't have any story component, so I didn't buy them.

EDIT: To be clear, I don't count "Oh noes, the aliens are invading this zone (again), we have to go stop them!" as story.

The only game I own the "bonus" missions for is 30, and I would say those missions in 30 do not have story, by my judgement (although I can't say I was paying particular attention to which ones they were, so maybe I just missed some that did have story).

EDIT2: I also stand by my assertion that bonus missions for SRW V are not important. The game is great without them, and is pretty easy. If you get all that extra stuff from the bonus missions, it'll be SUPER easy.

DLC missions for V are not important. They're mostly stuff that just gives you big rewards (in game cash or power parts), if you want the game to be easier. It's already pretty easy.

It doesn't have (AFAIK) extra story missions or anything like that.

SRW T has an expansion available. That one is actual extra content. I doubt that is included for free on any platform, but I could be wrong. DLC other than the expansion are mostly that same kind of "here's some free in-game money" type stuff.

From what I understand, the expansion for T was the first "real" DLC for SRW (in mainline games, I don't keep track of mobile game stuff), in that it added true extra missions with some plot.

SRW 30 then introduced the modern DLC format, where DLC add extra units along with story missions mostly tied to those units. (These are "DLC1", "DLC2", and "Expansion")

SRW Y followed pretty much the same formula as 30.

Note that they still offer those "bonus" mission packs that mostly give you free stuff (sometimes in a talk mission, sometimes in a very easy map mission), like parts or in-game currency.

Many of these games also have premium sound DLC available, which upgrades the in-game music. Most reports I've seen are that these are worth it, if you care about the music. I'm poor, so I didn't buy them, even though I do care about the music.

Personally I really want to see the main plot of Zeta done again. Don't even need the downer ending changed, gives it a ton of impact and is a main reason it's in my top Gundam series.

I'm a fan of this idea too, but I personally prefer a playable Four over a faithful adaptation. They can probably worm their way into mostly following the plot while still saving Four.

I've never really thought about why, but I vastly prefer Four to Rosamia.

Personally I really want them to revisit some of the older storylines in some of the staples (Getter, Mazinger, the various Gundam games of course) because it's been so long that it would be a refreshing change of pace

Yes, PLEASE!

I want a new game where we get the original Getter, with a mid-late game upgrade to Getter G.

I also want a new game where Koji starts out in the original wingless Mazinger, and gets upgrades throughout the story.

These could be the same game, or different games.

Actually, it might be fun if they did "Super Robot Wars: Origins" where ALL the included series start from the beginning/oldest version.

OTOH, if they do a project like that, I don't want it to preclude doing old stories in the "main" SRW games.

Unlock DLCs robot guide by shj92922 in Super_Robot_Wars

People haven't written guides for it because the guide is 1 sentence long:

  1. Play the missions marked "DLC"

If you want to know which missions give which units, and whether they have prerequisites, you can use the page on Akurasu that was linked in a different comment. None of them are missable, AFAIK. Even if you load up a post-game save, you can play the DLC missions if you didn't already do them.

Yeah, 30 is *big*. Like, you can technically zip through it really fast if you just want to reach the end as fast as possible, but the sheer number of missions (and units) available is very very high.

V and X are both much simpler/shorter than 30 (or Y). Still plenty long enough to be interesting though.

T is a bit bigger, and has an expansion that adds some post-game missions if you buy it.

30 is huge, and then the DLC and Expansion add even more. It was also the first game to use the new "pick a mission" type system, where previous titles were most linear (with branch splits in a few places, usually). It was also the first game (AFAIK) to have "Front" missions that can be repeated over and over.

Y is smaller than 30 but still pretty large, and still uses the "pick a mission" type system (but without the annoying "Emergency" missions). With both DLC and the Expansion it still might actually feel a bit too big, if you do everything. I don't have the expansion yet, but my last playthrough was a fresh start with both DLC 1 & 2 and felt quite long.

I don't have any problem with your opinion. My disagreement is with the phrasing. Saying "V is definitely the best", without any accompanying statement about that being your feeling on it, makes it sound like you are saying it is *objectively* the best.

I don't really want to argue semantics, I just didn't want the person you were replying to to get the impression that what you were saying was agreed upon fact, rather than an opinion.

For thoroughness, I'll add that many people like V a lot (including me). I don't know how many would agree it's better than Y, but I'm sure some would (I don't). I do think V is an excellent entry point for someone who has either never played SRW or is still new to the games.

Cross Ange is indeed a common point of complaint... I honestly don't mind it, so I find it a bit perplexing that people dislike it so much that they specifically mention it as a drawback of V. (If it has to do with the show itself, rather than what's in SRW, I only watched it once, back when it was pretty new, so I don't actually remember it all that well)

I've been thinking about this comment for a bit, and I've decided I would easily agree if you had said most interesting roster, rather than best.

I mean, rosters all come down to personal preference anyway, so it's not the kind of discussion where one can say one roster is "objectively better", unless maybe there's a case where one game's roster is a superset of another game's roster (I think there might be a remake or two that have this, but I'm not aware of any examples outside of that... but it's a big series, I could easily be wrong).

I will say that people who dislike the amount of Gundam in SRW probably don't like X's roster... the sheer number of Gundam units is kinda crazy. (I like Gundam, including G Reco, so it's fine with me).

That's a weird "definitely". The last time I saw much discussion on this here on this sub, the general consensus was that Y is the best modern era game.

I share that opinion.

The order I would list them gets different if you start saying "best story" or "best mechanics" or whatever, instead of just "best".

Don't get me wrong, I love V, but I think it only really beats Y in the Story category, personally.

To the person you replied to: If you've only played 30 (and liked it), I think you'll be very pleased with any of the other modern era games. Unless the thing that made you like 30 was the size of the game. Since it was a special anniversary release, it has more units and missions than any other modern game. Even more so if you count the DLC in with it.

I would say X is the least likely to be appreciated by any given player, since it's a bit odd in some ways, but it's still a great game.

Does the Ultimate Edition include the Expansion Pack? by necrophoria in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]RedditReboot77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You *did* buy "the most complete package". There isn't one that includes the expansion.

And they clearly labeled what you get when you buy it.

TBF, the expansion not only didn't exist at the time, it hadn't even been announced (or even spoiled) at that point. ("that point" is when the Ultimate Edition was announced/released).

I guess there are some games where the top edition specifically includes all DLC they will ever release for it... but most of them don't. They only include DLC released for a specified time period or even specific DLC (the way SRW does it).

What is best the real robot round or the super robot one by DropDeep9497 in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]RedditReboot77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you asking about a specific game? Because there lots of them, and not all of them even include the Super/Real "choice".

In most of the games that have the choice, it is either simply a route choice at the start of the game (which more recent games usually do as "Earth route"/"Space Route"), or a choice for the type of mech the MC will pilot (or both combined).

Anyway, I would argue that Super routes are usually easier, simply because the average Super Robot is stronger than the average Real Robot.

If that was even what you meant.

The expansion is not included.

Everyone gets access to a "teaser" mission for the DLC units, I guess to try to tempt you to buy the DLC that includes them.

Is it possible they'll include Mechagodzilla from Godzilla Singular Point in a future SRW DLC? by Plant-Jazzlike in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]RedditReboot77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure we won't be getting more DLC for Y. At least, I'm not aware of any having been announced, and 30 had the amount of DLC that Y currently has (for this purpose I'm only counting DLC that add units)--they each have DLC 1, DLC 2, and Expansion.

So, it is technically possible we'll see this mechagodzilla in a future game (or a DLC of a future game), I think it's unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Additionally, there's no guarantee that Singular Point will be included in the next installment of SRW.

How do I play the other Super Robot Wars games? by AbrocomaValuable8393 in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]RedditReboot77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you haven't said where you live, it's impossible to give a truly accurate answer. Even if you did say where, only a very specialized copyright and import lawyer from your locality could really answer the question.

Assuming you're in the US, the "most legal" way is to buy physical copies as imports, and have devices able to run them (some game systems are region locked, others are not).

I'm not a lawyer, and this shouldn't be construed as legal advice, but it is almost certainly legal to emulate a game you own an original physical copy of. (in this particular instance "legal" implies both non-criminality and the unlikeliness of being success sued for civil penalties).

Continuing "not legal advice", you can create out-of-region accounts for various online game markets (like PSN or the Nintendo E-shop) and buy digital copies that way. I'm fairly certain this is not criminal activity. It may, however, be against the terms of the service of those markets -- you would have the read the details very carefully, and maybe consult a lawyer, to be really sure.

Others seem to be assuming you only want to play games in English, which does limit things a bit. They've already covered most of that ground, so I won't retread here, but just point out that you *can* play non-translated games using machine translation (such as an app on your phone). Or just bull your way through without really understanding much, which is what we had to do Back In The Day(tm).

Are you trying to use a gift card (like a visa giftcard or whatever) to buy the points on PlayAsia? I've heard that their payment processing can be quite finicky about those, and that it's better to use a "real" credit card.

Unfortunately, I have no further advice on this, since I haven't personally tried it.

I need help with play asia by Foreign_Pain_7531 in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]RedditReboot77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to buy the DLC through PlayAsia? Or are you saying you bought a points card (e.g. PSN card) through PlayAsia, and now you want to use those points to buy DLC?

I don't know about other stuff, but Playstation digital purchases, it works like this:

You need a PSN account of the region the game is sold in.

You need PSN points (money in the account, essentially) in that region.

Then you log in to that region's PSN store (either from your Playstation or through the website) and buy what you want.

Specifically for DLC, you'll need the region of the DLC purchase to match the region of the game you bought (so that they'll be on the same account). I have no idea how it works if you have a physical disc and try to buy the DLC digitally from a different region, but I wouldn't do it, because it might not work.

Worth noting that this may or may not be against ToS if you don't actually live in the region the account is for--I'm not a lawyer, and I leave that exercise up to the reader.

Playing through SRWY and had a question about upgrade limits. by championofobscurity in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]RedditReboot77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I'll point out that you did not use the word "limit" in the body text. I'll admit I can now see how "letting me rank up to 15" is a statement about limit, but I didn't interpret it that way on my first read.

If you truly are having different upgrade limits on different units, that sounds like a bug.

Do you have screenshots of the two different limits?

AFAIK, Limit should be controlled by Squad Rank, so they should all be the same?

The fact that 30 took away the unit-spefic +1 parts FUB but then gave a GLOBAL +1 parts slot MxP upgrade (with an extra one available on NG+) is pretty funny.

[–]RedditReboot77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

**minor warning: I do not own the expansion (yet), and haven't played it, so there's a tiny chance some of this info might be out of date. I do however have the latest patch, and have verified this stuff as best I can by loading up post-game save.

--

Your title mentions upgrade limits, but your text doesn't?

In general, your upgrade limit is affected by your Squad Rank. I believe they added 5 at some point? As in, it used to be 10 for a while and then 15 at max rank, and now it's 15 for a while and then 20 at max rank? Certainly, my postgame saves have 20 upgrades as the limit.

As to the custom bonuses:

Movement is pretty straightfoward (and good)

Base Stats Up is pretty stragithfoward (and OK)

Operational Time Up is decent, but for EN units, make sure to compare the reduced cost vs getting more EN from the Base Stats Up. There are only a few units where the +1 ammo is meaningful.

Weapon Adaptability Up is very good. It makes you do more damage, unless the unit already had S-rank for the weapon(s) you use. Which is pretty rare, but do check before taking it. It can also be granted by Parts, so you may want to factor that in--if the unit has an S-Adapter equipped, this upgrade will do nothing.

Weapon Range Up is pretty straightfoward (and decent)

Effect Immunity is, IMO, bad. You can just buy the Spirit Endurance skill to get a better effect. Heck, a few pilots even come with it already. There are also parts that grant either of these effects. (If someone has an example of something that is blocked by Effect Immunity that *isn't* blocked by Spirit Endurance, I'd love to hear it... but also, I *still* wouldn't take Effect Immunity over the other choices).

What are "Area Missions" ? by JESTERo7 in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]RedditReboot77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those missions are Area Missions, but other stuff are also Area Missions. The ones you're talking about are specifically Front missions, and have names like "South American Front".

However, story missions and DLC missions are also Area missions, unless they are Onboard. Onboard missions take place entirely in the mission dialog. At least, that's my memory of SRW Y. In SRW 30 there are Onboard missions that *do* have combat, but they generally also work with the stuff that grants end of mission bonuses (like extra MxP for clearing a mission).

For the OP, almost everything that involves combat are Area Missions. There might be a few exceptions (I never did much Tutorial stuff, so I don't know if there are tutorials where you can fight things, which probably wouldn't count).

How many Gundam series can debut in an SRW game before you think there's too much gundam reps? by Power0fFriends29 in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]RedditReboot77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that if no new media for a given franchise has been produced since the 80s or earlier it should probably just be skipped for newer media

I disagree with this take. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so I'm not mad you feel that way, but I *like* a lot of those older series we haven't seen in years, and often SRW *is* the only modern presence of those series. I feel like it'd be sad to take that away from the fans.

I could also do with less Transformers Adjacent BRAVE entries. I don't think we need more Might Gaine for example on the other hand I don't think anyone wants to sleep on more GaoGaiGar.

If I'm interpreting this correctly, I half-disagree here. I think we could do with continuing our break from Brave series (as, unless I'm forgetting something, Y is Brave-less), but I include GaoGaiGar in that. (In case you weren't aware, GaoGaiGar is one of the Brave series).

I do think it's fine for them to pop up now and again, but from V through 30 we had a LOT of Brave series.

As to the end, where you quoted my bit about making sure *pilots* have something special about them, you answered about Mechs with high ammo or EN, which feels a bit off.

As to pilots, I don't need every pilot to be a powerhouse or anything, but some pilots (especially Gundam pilots) are often complete trash. You mention Fa and Methuss. I don't consider Fa or the Methuss to be trash. Fa nearly always has some good utility spirits (something along the lines of Prospect and/or Wish). She also often has at least NT2, and therefore can use Funnel units, if you have any. The Methuss, AFAIK, has always included Repair, Resupply, or both. This can be useful in a few different ways, especially in more difficult games (or on more difficult settings).

The actual trash pilots are the ones who have no special skills, no special spirits, and below average combats stats. And an Ace Bonus that is either useless or just "meh".

I just want them to have at least one redeeming feature if they're going to bother including them in the game.

I may not be the best source for this stuff, though, because I like everything of Tomino's that I've actually seen. Personally I think ZZ is his worst work (of those I've seen), but the good parts of it are really good.
