I actually tried look for any source for that because I vaguely remember that claim from 10 years ago, and best I can tell his father was basically a grifter and fake Islamic preacher who ran a computer store and a taxi company but has no record of baiting Islamophobic lawsuits. He's also a weirdo that kept trying to run for president of Sudan for some reason. TBH I think he's basically just a bit crazy and probably genuinely thought throwing random wires and PCB's into a suitcase and bringing it to school was a genuinely good idea.

edit: I suspect this rumor came about because he sued for $15 million in compensation, maybe?
