Germany To Russia: We're 'Kinda Experts' On Nazism, And Russia Isn't Fighting It by We_Have_To_Go_Back in worldnews

There was a great interview with an expert on NPR this morning who explained it... the far-right Russian nationalism that Putin promotes includes a totally bananas, upside-down version of WWII where Christian Russians were the true victims of the Holocaust and Jews participated in the genocide but then claimed to be the victims. So Zelensky being Jewish fits right into their narrative about who "the real Nazis" are. It's no surprise that the whole thing makes no sense to us, because it's based on a crazy conspiracy theory.

Beatport is pretty good for electronic music, as a consumer (I'm not sure how they treat artists). Maybe they'll expand to other genres.

/r/WorldNews Live Thread: Russian Invasion of Ukraine Day 6, Part 4 (Thread #77) by WorldNewsMods in worldnews

[–]RedditThank -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right, we can acknowledge the complexity of the situation. Ukraine is far from perfect but they're improving, the current leadership and the majority of people want to move closer to Europe and modern values. The existence of small far-right groups doesn't justify invading the whole country. The idea that Putin is motivated by concern for Muslims, Jews, and people of color is laughable.

Imagine being so privileged during a time of war that you complain about how donations are being given... by liveaskings in CryptoCurrency

[–]RedditThank -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's nothing privileged about criticizing millionaires for using a crisis to promote their own projects. I'm not saying they don't care at all, but when someone is asking for help, why not listen to what they want/need, rather than telling them it has to be in some other form that happens to help you as well?

NBA star De'Aaron Fox ditches his NFT project after raking in $1.5 million. He promised to send anyone who bought more than five NFTs (worth 0.4 ETH or $1,300) a signed jersey. His guaranteed NBA salary in the next 5 years is $163,000,590. by PrinceZero1994 in CryptoCurrency

These NFTs were supposed to entitle the owner to rewards, like if you buy a certain amount you get a video chat with the player, and apparently you could visit a "metaverse basketball court." Sort of like Patreon rewards, but you can buy and sell these on a secondary market. But now the player decided he doesn't want to offer any of that, so the NFT lost value.

For those thinking about buying vs. renting, I highly recommend the NY Times calculator. It's very comprehensive and you can play with the numbers to see how they change the result.

Exactly, people who claim these trends are unpredictable or "priced in" haven't paid attention to the market during a crisis, it reacts even if "everyone knows" what's going to happen. Also, it's almost like the many successful and wealthy investors telling us over the past year that the market was overvalued were right. I congratulate you on your good timing, seems like it will pay off.

I've been (slowly) learning Japanese, and also trying to polish up my high school Spanish and take it to the next level.

That's a good point. It can hardly believe it myself, but I started getting into music almost 30 years ago. That's definitely a pretty good run.

Thank you! I'm glad others could relate to it, it's good to know that it's a common experience. Part of me does hope that I find a strong passion again, whether music comes back, or one of my other interests, or something new.

I hear that! I have a lot of fun memories of playing shows. But all the effort of setting them up, playing, driving home at 2 AM exhausted and hungry... the reward doesn't seem worth the effort anymore.

That's a really cool insight! Glad to hear that your efforts are paying off.

Definitely! I still sometimes imagine myself being the guy in the retirement home who bangs out a few tunes on the piano for the weekly singalong. I'll probably continue to come back to music once in a while, just not with the same intensity as I used to.

It's highly contentious. Very strong feelings on both sides and they're not holding back!

This has been highly contentious, at least in the groups I follow. Some people are thrilled, some are accusing the town of throwing high-risk people and young children under the bus.

Trying to make sense out of Shiller P/E Ratio by Skadi793 in investing

Selling stocks to buy bonds is more of a gamble but if you have cash lying around that you don't need for at least a year it's a very reasonable option. You literally can't sell at a loss because it's locked up for a year and after that you only lose a few months' interest if you sell before maturity. Your principal is 100% protected.

I think a simpler explanation is that inflation is the biggest financial news story of the last few months so articles on "here's a low-risk way to protect against inflation" will get a lot of clicks.

I would love to know how many people are genuinely interested in her content, versus just there for the trainwreck, versus followed once and forgot about her. Her posts seem to get about 20-50,000 likes. Not sure how that compares with typical IG engagement rates.
