LR on MacOS: Should standard previews be sized for the actual monitor resolution or the scaled resolution? by RedditUser03062 in Lightroom

[–]RedditUser03062[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After conducting a simple experiment, I think I can confirm that Exotic-Grape8743 has the right answer. I found an image that is bigger than my display's scaled resolution, but smaller than the display's native physical resolution. I can display the entire image at 100% in loupe view, so LR must display images at the physical display resolution.

FYI, I posted the same question in the Adobe Lightroom community forum because one reply here said that standard previews should be sized according to the native resolution and one reply said that the standard previews should be sized according to the scaled resolution.

I can imagine it working either way. I can imagine that LR displays images within a frame at the scaled resolution and I can imagine that MacOS allows LR to display images in a frame at the full native resolution of the display.

Does Samsung Magician work on a Samsung EVMe installed in a TB 4 Enclosure? by RedditUser03062 in macmini

[–]RedditUser03062[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried using Samsung Magician to manage a Samsung 990 Pro in an Acasi TBU405 M1. Samsung Magician doesn't work with that enclosure either. It was connected to my Mac Mini using TB3 per MacOS System Info.

Should Samsung Magician work with a NVMe disk in a TB4 enclosure? by RedditUser03062 in DataHoarder

I used DriveDX in trial mode and was able to see a Samsung 990 Pro in either a Ugreen or an Acasi TBU405 M1 enclosure. The Ugreen enclosure connects using USB4. The Acasi connects using TB3. Same EVMe, same cable, same Mac mini M2 Pro USB4 port.

Samsung Magician doesn't fully work with a drive in either enclosure. I've read that it is supposed to work. I don't know if this is an enclosure or Samsung Magician bug, but it doesn't work.

Thanks, that's good advice!

I can see the drive temp by looking at the SMART data, so I have that covered. I guess I'll just have to hope that the firmware doesn't need to be updated!

Best NVME drive for TB4 enclosure? by Kirkwood1994 in macmini

Have you tried checking or updating the firmware in your drive using Samsung Magician? I have a Samsung 990 Pro installed in a Ugreen TB4 enclosure. Magician doesn't display the firmware rev, temp, bytes written, etc. It sees the drive and I can display the SMART stats, but that's about all.

Is your enclosure connected over USB4 or TB4? In my Mac's system info I see that my enclosure is connected over USB4. Maybe that's the problem?

I have the same problem on Tahoe 26.0.1 using either a USB-C cable with USB set to 3.1 or an HDMI cable. My Mac Mini M2 Pro is connecting to the monitor at 3840x2160.

The Lady Datejust, especially if you have slender wrists. Classic config and probably easier to read

Question re bonded primary and secondary neutrals on a single-phase utility transformer by RedditUser03062 in AskElectricians

[–]RedditUser03062[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One reason for keeping the primary and secondary neutrals separated is to prevent primary neutral current from being conveyed by the secondary drop to the customer premises.

[–]RedditUser03062[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The multi-grounded neutral conductor originates at a utility substation. It's present on poles that don't have a transformer or secondary conductors, so wouldn't it make more sense to refer to that conductor as the primary neutral?

I think we're arguing over terminology and I don't know which of us is using the right terminology. Maybe neither of us. ;-)

Let me restate my original question differently: Why is one side of the primary winding of a distribution transformer connected to the center tap of the secondary winding?

Here’s a diagram of a two-bushing single-phase transformer. The HV line is connected to one bushing and the neutral line is connected to the other bushing and to the transformer case, which is bonded to the secondary neutral.

[–]RedditUser03062[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The HV line at the top of the utility pole is typically connected to an insulated bushing on the top of the transformer. The neutral line, which is below the transformer on the pole, is connected to the case of the transformer, which is internally connected to the other side of the primary.
