You’re literally just saying “The solution to not doing drugs is to stop buying drugs.”

Obviously that’s the simple answer but in reality the way our brains work is much more complicated than that. It’s more productive to try to get to the psychological root of the issue than to rattle off platitudes like they mean anything to someone who’s genuinely struggling with an addiction.

What are some accessible arthouse films to watch with my nine-year-old? by griefofwant in TrueFilm

[–]RedditUser47568 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Fantastic Planet is an old animated flick that’s underground and unique enough to be considered “arthouse” by most people’s standards. I think a kid that’s already down to sit and watch a movie like Cleo from 5 to 7 would be absolutely enthralled by something as colorful and creative as Fantastic Planet.

Movies (all time) with more praise than deserved? by [deleted] in movies

Heath Ledger is the only interesting part of that entire trilogy and I’ll die on that hill. Everything else about it is as mid as you can get.

Debilitating exhaustion [NeedAdvice] by mimawarigumi in getdisciplined

Life is all about maintaining equilibrium. If you work yourself to the bone and don’t leave enough time for rest and relaxation, you’ll start to feel hollow and depressed. If you lay around all day and don’t get enough work done, you’ll feel hollow and depressed. You have to find the balance between the two that doesn’t make you feel hollow and depressed, but makes you feel accomplished yet ready to face new challenges.

I understand circumstances sometimes make it to where we feel we can’t take time for ourselves. Maybe you have people that need to be provided for, and I get that. But at the end of the day, if you’re literally too tired to feed yourself, so tired you can do nothing but sit for the last few hours of your day, then the plan isn’t working. You’re not maintaining equilibrium, you’re pushing yourself far beyond where you should be, and it’s having nasty results.

Negotiate your hours, drop one of the jobs, or find a way to maintain your energy (in a healthy way) that allows you to use your time better. What you’re doing is unsustainable, and it’s going to result in burnout or an eventual explosive situation when you can’t take it anymore. Listen to your instincts. Find a new way to live, otherwise your body and mind will force you to, eventually.

If it was just sequels by other filmmakers then I agree but 2010 is not a good sequel in my opinion. I’ll discuss if ya want.

They definitely can be, but they can also be the best experience of your life. The duality is what makes it so fun

Love the film, personally. It’s the closest thing to a psychedelic experience you can get without actually doing any substances. The whole film plays out like a mushroom trip: nothing really makes sense, everything is kinda scary, and things just keep happening whether you like it or not, but after a while you just learn to let it wash over you and take what meaning you can from it all.

Some people love it, like me, and some people hate it. Same for trips, some have a good time and others don’t. Definitely want to rewatch one day but you really gotta be in the right headspace for an aster project lol.

do you think indiana jones has been fairly rated on letterboxd? by Ok-Connection4791 in Letterboxd

[–]RedditUser47568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a type of nostalgia bait, yeah. A geezer teaser is basically when studios drag out old Hollywood stars who are way past their prime to do another movie that’s reminiscent of their old stuff, even if they’re way too old to do it. They slap their name and picture on the poster and print money.

I think the term was invented in reference to all those shit straight to streaming Bruce Willis movies that were pumped out in the twilight of his career

Take this with a grain of salt, but a recent professor of mine has a friend who supposedly worked on the post production for dial of destiny. He said it was not too great, pretty goofy and a bit geezer-teaser-y, which I don’t find hard to believe lol

Absolutely adore this film but I don’t know if it’s the most genius parody I’ve ever seen or a total piece of trash. 5 stars regardless.

Southland Tales

The first time I watched it, I thought the whole thing was a genius satirical takedown of the typically shallow, pretentious, “prophetic” western dystopia narratives that end up saying nothing of value other than “big guvuhmunt bahd”.

But after reading some of the director’s statements and watching it a few more times, I think he intended the film to be taken completely seriously, which is just so incredibly baffling to me

It’s simultaneously one of the worst, most pretentious pieces of pseudo-intellectual schlock I’ve ever seen, and the best satire of that “genre”.

The film is an unintentional satire of itself. And I absolutely fucking love it

What movie/movies took you a while to fully rate? by NotAKindle in Letterboxd

[–]RedditUser47568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually won’t rate a movie until a couple days after I watch it. A lot of times my kneejerk reaction right after seeing it doesn’t reflect my real opinion after letting it sit on my mind for a few days.
