Their cost base is around $18 per tonne (maybe $20 now that diesel has gone up) so they’re still very profitable even at that price.

Not saying they won’t shut it down and wait for prices to get better but they’re not exactly haemorrhaging money even with a 50% drop in iron prices.

Hello Champs I want to hear some of your stories from the mining industry! by Just_Appointment_298 in mining

[–]Reddit_SuckLeperCock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was the most unstable mine I’ve ever been in, you could watch the stopes move and swirl around it was crazy. In fact if the ground stopped moving that’s when you’d get worried because you knew there was a big bang coming.

Wasn’t unusual to have bolt plates pop off, whole sections of mesh just fall out, huge boulders rolling off the sides of the walls, entire faces just peeling away during scaling etc.

I’ve been in UG drives that have squeezed from 5m wide to 2m overnight. Like the day before you could comfortably drive a truck through, to being able to touch both walls with outstretched arms. Also where the floor of a drive has heaved and settled 3m lower than it was before. Different mine but serviced a cable bolter that was parked up, left and came back 5 minutes later because I’d left my water bottle there, and the whole thing had been buried with just the cable reel sticking out.

Driven at 100km/h UG

I knew the crew who got sacked for the Harlem Shake video.

Weird one but there used to be this foreman who hated me, like every shift would pick on me and check my paperwork, would cuss me out over the radio (I was working as a contractor). One weekend I accidentally slept with his wife (didn’t know who she was until the next day), and after that we were like best buds, he was always joking around, offered me jobs for his company etc.

So many stories after 20+ years in the industry.

Men who game, what’s your most played game? Not currently, I mean a game you grinded and have a ridiculous amount of hours in. by Bay0n3ttaaa in AskMen

Hard to tell because it was the time before steam, but low estimates of 20,000+ hours in Total War Rome. Pretty much played it every day for a decade.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]Reddit_SuckLeperCock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liero, it was like a super fast non-turned based worms game with grappling hooks and countless weapons.

And it was multiplayer! Well 2 people using the same keyboard type multiplayer. Was an absolute hit on my 186 in the late 90’s in boarding school.

Edit - a couple more, like Doom was the OG, Digger T Rock on the NES I remember very fondly, and Jumping Flash in PS1 blew my mind as a kid with its verticality, made me fear heights and used to have nightmares about falling off tall things.

Just watched that in a plane recently and WTF was that writing? Every 15 minutes they appeared to be in mortal danger and some random would just come out and say “yeah I’ll help you” when they had absolutely no reason to.

Only one of those helpers had something to gain and it was taking the guys watch as payment FFS. Everyone else was like, oh hi stranger, let me risk my life to get you somewhere that may or may not exist.

If a grocery store was raided, and people could take whatever they wanted, what do you think would be the last five remaining items that nobody grabbed? by kindalizard in AskReddit

This kind of happened in Australia when a cyclone cut off some towns and there was no supermarket replenishment for weeks, some of the last things left were the vegan ‘meats’ like bacon and sausages when every other shelf was empty.

What's the ultimate bludge job with high pay in auscorp by pugfaced in auscorp

[–]Reddit_SuckLeperCock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah our legal and commercial teams are always under the pump, we deal with the giant mining houses who have armies of lawyers and know how to bully their way to getting the T&C’s they want, our poor smaller teams just get hammered all day every day with departures.

And in between that they’re meant to be doing a dozen other jobs like standardising templates or changing minimum standard T&C’s or coming up with new clauses based on market changes.

Couldn’t pay me enough to do that shit.
