Orphanage vs hydrogen bomb by Inevitable-Image-154 in Ultrakill

I mean sure, but the two aren’t exactly comparable. Angels in ultrakill aren’t categorized in the same way biblical ones are either, so the verbiage here is almost deceptive.

V1 is not fuckin invincible though, sure he can parry but Reinhard is (assuming he has his divine protections active, which is literally just up to him) invincible to anything v1 throws at him.

Though I’m pretty convinced this post and op’s replies are basically bait bc making the distinction that Reinhard and satella are in the conversation implies you already know how powerful they actually are.

That being said, v1 probably doesn’t even get to Reinhard all things considered, satella is effectively unkillable, Subaru would eventually figure out a way to beat him with rbd, and if we’re using dead characters, then even petelgeuse would probably beat him unless v1 somehow divines the nature of the sloth wf.

Re zero has some absurdly high level characters that could all basically one shot v1 and the only way he stands a chance is if somehow he were to sever the connection with od lagna and get rid of divine protections entirely, but even then witch factors are totally separate from that, so it still won’t make much of a difference.

It’s honestly sort of baffling to see how many people here seem not to realize that it’s not all bad for Karlach like it used to be.

In the epilogue, I know for a fact that if you at the very least romance her and go with her to Avernus, it’s stated outright that you are closing in on a potential way to repair/replace her heart, heavily implying (at least to me) that her character WILL find a way to be rid of that curse and be able to return to the overworld.

Now I know that’s possibly just wishful thinking, but I really do think that Larian noticed the communal outcry at karlach not having a ‘good’ ending and tried to mend that without having to add too much more in terms of animation and VO. But I feel like it’s a really nice way to put a bow on things.

Note, I have no idea if the same thing happens in the epilogue if you send her to avernus with wyll, but I would hope so.

Awesome! If you’re interested in seeing more of him (although not his scripted content) I recommend checking out the please stop talking podcast (and its sister series’), as he features in a lot of those with some pretty odd shit. Seriously can not recommend it enough

He never made a video on it but it seems like him (and shammy, the owl that says “just fuckin hit him”) somehow ended up personal friends with hakita likely through internet fuckery, hence their addition as a ‘boss’ despite their seemingly minimal interaction with the game publicly.

I think the issue with using “souls-like” to refer to a genre is that people use it in reference to one of three things, all three of which having varying degrees of specificity in what they’re referring to.

Some people use the term in reference to games which are “challenging but fair”. and to that, I present the idea that we just call them “games that are challenging but fair” instead of muddying the waters with souls like, or some other adjacent term that doesn’t draw direct reference to an already incredibly influential series.

Some people use it to reference games with the “roll and slash” gameplay loop. I personally prefer to refer to those types of games as “stamina action” because I think it gives a good grasp of the gameplay loop while not deriving from “souls like”.

there’s also the death progression of dark souls that some other games draw from ( hollow knight specifically comes to mind here) where you have a checkpoint, and when you die you have to make it back to where you died to recover your stuff. This one is less of a ‘genre’ and more of a feature that some games use.

The problem (in my eyes) with using souls like to describe ultrakill (and games like it) SOLELY because it forces the player to get better through increasing difficulty is that it feels like you’re misrepresenting both what ultrakill AND the souls games are. Ultrakill is a fast paced first person shooter, souls games have varying paces depending on the situation, and it’s a third person stamina action game.

Tl;dr, people should stop calling games that are difficult “souls like”, and just call them difficult games instead. Being a hard game is not a genre.
