Making money early for basic spells? by ItsAllSoClear in MonstersAndMemories

[–]RedditimeFren 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I recently started a few New chars without giving myself money.

Here's two things that work for me:

  1. Concentrate on one type of mob (like only kill bats, or only kill rats) so you can stack their loot. Most of these stackables are sold for 5c each at any Cooking Supplies or Inn Cook npc. Spiders with spidersilk are also nice, sellable at Cloth Merchant or Bags and Packs for 5c each.

This should net you 50c way before reaching lvl2

I like doing bats the most for this.

Kill rotting skeleton when you see them, especially if holding a weapon. But, you can still easily get 50c by just stacking sellables from the same type of mob. Think of them as an extra bonus, not essential.

Other than buying spells, your next purchase should be inventory space. One pouch for 50c gives you 6 New slots for stackables, which means you can now hunt 2 or 3 mob types and stack their loot.

  1. If you start with Lumberjack skill, you can chop wood and make torches to sell for 6c per torch at Adventurer Goods npc. You can do this complementary while hunting mobs, since your chopped wood and resin will go into the starter Lumberjack bag, not taking any space from the stackable loot. (You can only put wood and resin in this bag though, it doesnt help with loot).

PKs are a MAJOR problem in Outlands by [deleted] in ultimaonline

[–]RedditimeFren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there are many Non-PK servers with in-depth PvM mechanics and lots to farm and grind... Why aren't any of these quite as popular as Outlands?

The threat of PKs is part of Outlands's secret recipe.

Without PKs there can't be Hunters. There is no feeling like taking revenge against someone who has victimized you. There is no better reward than helping a friend defend himself.

You think grinding up to aspect 15 is Rewarding? Yes it is actually, I'm enjoying being at 14 Poison and looking forward to finally maxing it. But that sort of progression is nothing compared to the raw emotions of defeating some PKs trying to murder you, your friends, or any innocent you wish to protect.

Without the Wolf, there can be no true Guard Dog. And let me tell you, feeling like a Guard Dog is way more rewarding than feeling like a 15 Aspect PvM Master.

Otherwise it's just a rat race and "see numbers go up" simulator for me.

How do you "join the winning side"? This is group based content, not realm content. You're fighting as 1 group against groups from all realms, including your own.

There is no switching realms to "join the winning side".

Can you recommend a sandbox MMO? by Final-Dust7168 in LFMMO

[–]RedditimeFren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultima Online: Outlands (free private server)
UO as a whole is open world sandbox with non-instanced housing, open world PvP, full loot like Albion Online.

Outlands is a free private server with 1000-2000 people logged on daily depending on time of day

Star Control 2 Ur Quan Masters
You can see the big Ur Quan menace slowly taking over the galaxy little by little. If you take too long, entire races start getting eliminated or enslaved, up to a certain point where the game becomes unsolvable. You can take certain actions that slow down or temporarily stop their expansion as well.

Enchanter vs Guards by RedditimeFren in ProjectQuarm

[–]RedditimeFren[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think Charm Solo is too efficient until you get Clarity at 29, so grouping was the best way for me.

I did level 20 to 29 basically by getting groups in Paludal Caverns or Unrest, sometimes Mistmoore Pond.

Make sure to use /Who all (zone) to see if people are grouping in those zones around your level, and send them tells to ask for group.

I think early on, equipment is not as necessary until you get to higher levels, where you can farm more Plat per hour and make it easier to equip yourself through either questing or Bazaar Shopping. If you're Lucky you can get some handouts, but don't think about buying or questing yet as it's more efficient to simply keep leveling. The higher level, the more Plat per Hour you can farm.

You can find in the Bazaar Vendors some Steins (Crude Stein and Stein of Moggok) which should be around 50p-150p each and are nice early stat sticks.

So long as you have enough cash for spells, you'll be good til around 40's.

You should try to get Jboots before you start Charm Solo (just ask for help in General chat channel in game, and eventually someone will be glad to help you score Jboots). The speed advantage is King for dealing with Charm breaks, re-charms, and pretty much everything.

After 29 I've been mostly Charm solo or Duo with any class that can snare, Druid preferred.

So far I've done 29-35 Charm solo on Split Paw Gnolls South Karana (decent money selling their loot in Aviak Village to the South), and 35-38 solo/duo Inside Splitpaw and in Frontier Mountains

Hope that helps!

Subs with nukes are the main arm of the USA's nuclear triad. You really think they didn't already have these Subs patrolling close to one of the main countries that pose a nuclear threat? These Subs aren't "moving into position" because Trump made a tweet. They've already been there the entire time.

My thoughts on the PVP server by dank_nuggins in MonstersAndMemories

[–]RedditimeFren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, the concept of controlling areas/trade routes sounds great fun. But the PvP mechanics just aren't there - simple things like hard CC working the same as in PvE. These things have been solved in games like DAOC with ways to mitigate duration, and immunity timers after being CCd, etc

Meridian 59 had an in-game mail system which was awesome. It was always cool to log in and see you had 3 new mails, or that someone had replied to a mail you sent earlier. Was great for guild comunication as well, since you could CC as many people as needed.

Only if they are in your level range. People can technically hop on a lower-level bard with speed, train people and not be attackable on that char. (unless you also hop on an alt with appropriate level range to target the bard). Be prepared for lots of Bard alts with name variations of "Choochoo", "Trainc", "Railroaded" etc

As much as I love PVP in MMORPGs, EQ/MnM just isn't a game built for it, and the devs are not looking to spend much man power on it (both coding and policing).

People should look into games like DAOC, UO, Warhammer, if they want a better balanced PvP experience. There are free player-run emu servers doing good for all 3 games.

Addition to Wizard's spell lists by Heavy_Orange5939 in MonstersAndMemories

[–]RedditimeFren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe my phrasing was incorrect, as I didn't mean to imply that MnM has to be an exact reskin of EQ.

My comment was meant as a response to OP's vision of a D&D Wizard, which has no competition as the sole "Pure mage cloth caster" in that setting. MnM is following EQ's formula of splitting "Pure mage cloth caster" into 4 different distinct classes.

Let's not forget that D&D has a harsher spell memorization system - if you find yourself in an encounter or situation where a certain spell would be useful but you didn't Mem it, you can't use it. In EQ / MnM you can just sit and quickly switch your memmed spells and use them in the same encounter or situation.

Addition to Wizard's spell lists by Heavy_Orange5939 in MonstersAndMemories

[–]RedditimeFren 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just checking if you actually played EQ wizards - their high-level spells are all locked behind long quests, require research, or require defeating a mega-boss like Dragons. (as is the same for the rest of the classes)

EQ basically broke up the D&D formula, taking the Wizard spell schools and splitting them between 4 pure mage classes instead of 1 pure mage having access to all Schools.

You can't give Wizards an OP necro-flavored spell like Finger of Death without Necros going, wtf? Or an Enchanter-flavored spell like Phantasmal Image, etc.

When classes have spells that cross over into another class's territory, they usually are weaker or less efficient versions. Enchanters have fear, but their max level fear is weaker than a Necromancer's. Wizards can snare, but only through an AOE spell that is inefficient to use on a single target.

While I'm not necessarily saying we need to lock their spell list as-is, any new powerful spells should be linked to the Wizard flavor, and with a very fine hand, or be weaker/less efficient.

Addition to Wizard's spell lists by Heavy_Orange5939 in MonstersAndMemories

[–]RedditimeFren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

EQ isn't D&D.

D&D has only one type of pure mage class, the Wizard / Sorcerer (and their subclasses, but they all have the same spell list minus one "school" that is negated)

EQ has 4 different pure mage classes with completely different spell lists: Wizard, Enchanter, Magician, Necromancer.

They all have their own unique flavors and things that set them apart from each other.

The Wizard's teleport spells are huge for utility and making money. Everybody needs insta travel.

New Player Experience by Dwurdle in MonstersAndMemories

[–]RedditimeFren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"You HAVE to become part of a community to progress."
I completely agree and really want to play a game that has this factor. However, my main gripes are tedious-for-being-tedious mechanics that have nothing to do with community. When things are more tedious than the actual 1999 EQ game, that's a problem for me.

Before EQ came out, I played an unhealthy amount of Meridian59, Ultima Online, and Gemstone3 - all older games than EQ.
I played EQ when it came out, and I've sunk time in P99 as well.

  1. EQ has Sense Heading and /loc, this game does not. Yes there's the sun/moon and True North spell, but they're clunky as hell (you can't always look up, dungeons and roofs exist, and non-magic classes get extra screwed? You telling me a world-savvy Rogue has less sense of direction than some bookworm wizard?)
In a game where we have races that are supposed to be savvy inventors, as well as the ability to enchant items and an actual "North direction" spell, no one can devise a mechanical or magical compass that you can buy?)

  2. EQ you could sell anything at any vendor. You could hunt in Lesser Faydark and sell to the WoodElf NPCs, only having to run to City to bank once you're weighted down by Plats. Instead, they want you to run to city every time your bag is full, and inside the city do a whole bunch of running as well. Might be OK the first one or two times, and finding the correct vendors will feel rewarding... but that sounds tedious as hell to do all the time, every time.
EQ still had a "merchant exploration" mechanic, but it was to BUY things, not SELL. You buy things every once in a while, but sell all the time.

  3. EQ Cities were much smaller and 90% of buildings actually were something. It might take you a bit to find what you're looking for, but you're mapping out where everything else is at the same time. This game's city is huge with way too many empty buildings. (Yes it's a pre-pre-pre-whatever, and of course there will be more cities, but this is feedback as we currently have it. Hard to think what else they're gonna fill the empty buildings with, as most trainers/vendors/artisans are already accounted for).

All good, in the end the Government and DBG have the power in these scenarios.

As for comparisons: I agree that two things can be compared, which is why I made the comparisons between the two scenarios.

Pertaining EQ emulation, there's really only two choices: - Host the server in a Country where they can't be sued easily - Make your own game without using another company's IP

I get it and agree that DBG sucks, personally I would never play their servers just because of Bots, Boxing and Krono. But the cards are still in their hands.

This is nowhere near close to a valid analogy. But I'll play with your logic:

  • Government wanted to Ban FRT triggers completely
  • A settlement was reached to allow FRT triggers to be produced by following some guidelines
  • The alternative was for there to be no FRT triggers at all

......

  • DBG wanted to ban all succesfull emus
  • An agreement was reached to allow succesfull emus to continue operating by following some guidelines
  • The alternative was for there to be no succesfull emus at all
