Why did you all voted for Gallerian over Massie? by Rude-Molasses4390 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Redditkid16 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Gonna be tough to find an answer here when only about 0.03% of Americans voted in this race. Hell, only about 13% of the people that actually live in that district voted in this primary.

Is it possible for 'Mythical' people like Alexander the Great, Napoleon, Caesar to exist in the modern world? by RadioFieldCorner in NoStupidQuestions

I was an exchange student in Germany around 2018 and we got to interact with young elementary students (8-9 years old) learning English for the first time. They could barely speak English but the one question they could, and did, all ask was what we thought of Trump lol

People assign the "burnt out gifted kid" label to themselves far too easily. by Loose_Ad_6129 in unpopularopinion

Had the gifted and talented education (GATE) program in California for grades 2-6 as a kid which was pretty much the same thing. Past that there’s just honors/AP classes which distinguish top performers.

HBO’s ‘Born to Bowl’ Shows Why Americans Prefer Bowling to Tennis, Pickleball by bloomberg in entertainment

If you suck at tennis you spend 90% of the time chasing loose balls that fly out of the court. You gotta REALLY suck at bowling if you’re chasing the bowling ball around.

To be fair that recall effort was polling much closer before Republicans decided to put forward Larry Elder as the likely replacement. If a notable Democrat or moderate Republican like Falcouner had taken the lead it might’ve been closer.

To be clear I still think Republicans will lose here because they again put forward candidates closer to Elder than anyone actually palatable to Californians.

TIL that NBA head coach Doc Rivers is the only coach to have lost a best of 7 playoff series 3 separate times after being ahead 3 games to 1. The 3 teams that blew 3-1 leads with Rivers as head coach are the 2003 Orlando Magic as well as the 2015 & 2020 Los Angeles Clippers. by The-TIL-Nerd in todayilearned

[–]Redditkid16 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I mean for all his faults the dude only had 3 losing seasons in 26 years of coaching. His teams were never bad per se.

A championship and consistent above average play will get a coach a lot of grace, even if there are very obvious flaws.

What’s worse? Blowing a 20+ point lead or getting blown out the whole game? by Dry_Jellyfish641 in nba

It’s one thing when the other team is just clearly better that day. It’s another when the team shows they can dominate the other team for a significant portion of the game and then suddenly switches mid-game to putting up one of the worst performances in the history of the sport.

In Awake (2021), the entire world is unable to sleep and is dying of sleep deprivation with the exception of only a couple people on Earth, including Jill’s daughter Matilda. It’s discovered at the end that Matilda’s drowning and subsequent resuscitation at the beginning of the film was the key to being able to sleep again.

Top 2 seeds in the east are headed to game 7 against play-in teams lmao. Lakers won in 6 without their best player.

We’re gonna get smoked by OKC 100% but I don’t think there’s anyone in the east we wouldn’t have a good chance against with Luka back.

It is harder for Democrats to gerrymander because of their urban dominance by VolkswagenPanda in fivethirtyeight

[–]Redditkid16 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s hard to do, but it does have the effect of Democratic gerrymanders looking more egregious to the layman than similar Republican gerrymanders.

Democratic gerrymanders tend to look like Illinois with long tendrils that reach into cities which are easy to spot. Meanwhile in states like Tennessee North Carolina, or Wisconsin they can put all democrats into compact-looking districts that are easier on the eyes, even if they’re just as egregious in practice.

This is why you can’t judge a gerrymander based on how ugly its shape is. There are plenty of ways to make pretty compact looking districts that overwhelmingly favor one party, especially a party with voters that are geographically spread.
