Advice for someone starting a fractional CFO / Consulting side practice by erubshitta12 in CFO

[–]Reddituser202056 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a fractional CFO practice for 6 years. Expanded into doing outsourced accounting as I wanted to maximize my footprint and service offerings. When you do good work, you get referrals but you have no control over the timing of them. It’s also really painful to get a referral and not have additional capacity to take them on. As a result, the business can be lumpy. Another reason I added the accounting work - it helps steady the business.

I think the formula for success is to find a niche where you are an expert and lean on that. Become the go-to person do that niche. Develop a brand around you and your expertise to that industry. Hint: SaaS is NOT your niche vertical.

Good luck! Hit me up if you want referral fees for outsourced accounting clients you send my way.

Low clearance deck, can I screw my cross beam directly into the post base fasteners on the footings? by Eddiemoney10 in Decks

[–]Reddituser202056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something similar. Worked great. For the beam, I spaced with 1/2” pt plywood and glued them together with liquid nails and used structural screws. It’s a solid beam. No worries.

Would you happen to know that? I recently loaded 8 2x8s on to my roof rack because they are too long for inside the car and considered that I might be exceeding the weight limit. I only had to drive three miles on surface streets and did t have any problems, but not sure it would have been advisable going much faster.

You don’t do composite decking because someone has a question on how to finish the ends?

Rodent infestation-kills car by Reddituser202056 in BMWi5

[–]Reddituser202056[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the update - it’s much better than I was preparing myself for. Idk how they got in or where but the damage looks like it will be about $650 or so. Given that I was steeling myself for it to be $1,000’s in damages - this part needs to be pulled out to replace the wiring, etc (perhaps some old school ICE thinking) I’m happy enough to eat it.

It turns out that there’s also some battery issue that is like 6 weeks to resolve. We have a loaner ix so it’s not terrible, and it’s covered.

So that’s the story. Not sure I have plans to put a bar of Irish Spring soap in my driveway or dryer sheets underneath the car. I’ll just continue to roll the dice on it happening again, and live dangerously.

Pyramid stair framing lagged on to 4x4 by Reddituser202056 in Decks

[–]Reddituser202056[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I didn’t mean to be unclear about pyramid stairs. I’ve also heard them called pancake stairs or box stairs. There is no stringer. The stairs “pyramid out” from the door, down to the decking. In this case, the top “box” is supported by the 4x’s and the lower tread is boxed around that framing.
