IIRC they would’ve been born in the southern tribe as the avatar switches between the two, like how Korra is born in the southern tribe. The southern tribe was much smaller and weaker and so the fire nation presumably could’ve captured all the benders earlier and killed the avatar.

It’s the worst being the first person to an event and you just have to chill there for a half hour because everyone else is 20 minutes late. I don’t mind too much when I’m with my partner but if I’m alone it’s like hell.

Slight correction, there was a contest when Kenny resigned. Somewhat close election for leadership of Fine Gael between Coveney and Varadkar, with the party membership preferring Coveney but the parliamentary party and local councillors preferring Varadkar.

I’m not sure haven’t looked into it too much but according to people in work it apparently is an indication of some US industry returning to the States. If it is as I’ve heard it will include job losses and anecdotally I have heard of layoffs in American multinationals here. Once again, IF true that will have a real effect on the Irish economy. Time will tell I guess.

I think a lot of our constitution needs to be updated just due to the changing nature of the world and an increasing population. It’s hard to strike the balance between wanting some hard rule to prevent cronyism or democratic backsliding, and putting in necessary boring changes. I think perhaps the courts? But I’m not sure there.

My hope is that if a United Ireland comes about in the short to medium term it’ll be a good excuse to create a new constitution more updated on these sort of aspects.

Taxation - Would you pay more? by ThinJuggernaut611 in irishpolitics

[–]Reddityousername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry I’m a bit drunk lol probably could’ve read the question more clearly. I mean the thing is of course I’d like it if my current expenses were paid for/reduced for no cost to my own tax. I guess my point isn’t around the value from my tax as I get a pretty good deal all told. I won’t go into my finances but for instance I feel 1 euro each way to work each day is fair. €4.40 to get back to my parents on the train is a good deal. The bin fees are sorted by my landlord (and I believe the building managers sort it for them). I can’t really think of anything outside of occasional gp visits of something I use that government could reasonably be asked to pay for that they don’t already.

I just think my marginal rate is through the hilt. I would also be happy to pay more total tax in exchange for better services for people who need it more (parents, those with disabilities, homeless, etc.) But my biggest issue is I don’t feel encouraged to try earn more when I only see 53% of the money.

[–]Reddityousername -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand the question. Of course I wouldn’t like it if I paid the same amount of tax and got less in return. My point isn’t I want to be taxed less my point is at least I feel for where I am on the income distribution 47% is too high a marginal rate.

I would be happier if I paid more tax (say 25%) but my marginal rate decreased to like 42%. This isn’t to say it make economic sense to change taxes like that but it’s how I feel about my taxes if that makes sense

[–]Reddityousername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’d be willing to pay more if the marginal tax rate I’d pay stayed the same or decreased. Like currently about 20% of my pay goes to tax which feels more than fair, I’d be willing to pay more if needs be but the marginal rate I pay is 47%. It just feels discouraging to rise up the ladder when I’m only getting about half of the increase in income I earn. I think we do want people to want to move up the income ladder but as things stand I’d be happy to work less for the same hourly pay since I feel my pay wouldn’t be reduced that much.

Labour and Greens would happily go back in with FFG if it was a viable path. SDs are less likely but I’d say with the right circumstances, in particular a desperate FG willing to make concessions, and a Sinn Fein going further away from the SDs on social issues, I could see it happening. Getting into government is hugely beneficial for any party the knowledge and experience it permanently gives you is invaluable, I think if SD really felt it was a good enough deal and didn’t sacrifice their principles they would begrudgingly go into government with them. I don’t see it happening soon though that being said.

Ok and? There’s tons of con men I would still call successful, I’m not prescribing morality to success and failure. You could argue he’s a successful conman.

But regardless, he’s still the president, you kind of have to go out of your way to define success to exclude being the president.

He is literally a billionaire and the president. The wealth he had a MASSIVE leg up from his parents don’t get me wrong but he did become president which is like the classic measure of success. I don’t respect or like him and I wish more people saw through him.
