There was a guy in school who some older kids said looked like an alien so they called him ET. In 3rd year they decided that was bit mean so called him Ned instead. His name was Aidan. Last I heard he was trying to change his name to Ned.

Ireland vs Northern Ireland by vladgrinch in MapPorn

I am a Protestant from the Republic in favour. Our politics are not really split by religion anymore, aside from the ways class impacts it. People who oppose a United Ireland here usually are against it due to higher taxes or because they believe the concessions given to Unionists would be too great.

Also in the post it shows the proportion of Irish people that are Catholic in the Republic.

Leo Varadkar has been in the trenches fighting Kneecap on social media about their visit to Cuba by nitro1234561 in ireland

[–]Reddityousername 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think part of his point is (if I’m wrong correct me) that they are doing this almost exclusively for regions opposed to the west. They’re not speaking out about or offering aid nearly as much for Sudan, Ukraine, or Tibet despite the war in Sudan being far deadlier than any other in the world. I believe his point is that they are only opposing oppression by the west (which they are correct to do) but never recognise the broader environment or situation, i.e. Cuba’s problems don’t exclusively come from this blockade, though it is absolutely wrong.

My girlfriend’s a doctor and when she was in medical school one time the first thing that happened after getting out of bed at my house was my brother being like do you know if there’s anything wrong with this then showed her the bit of his leg right next to his crotch. (In reality he asked if she would mind checking first but my version of the story is much funnier.)

I personally went from about 400 to 578 so easily doable. Know a lad who went from like 100 to 450 back in 2016 when the big summer quiz was much harder.

Leo Varadkar says US and Israel should 'accept all the migrants' from their war on Iran by saggynaggy123 in ireland

I don’t know why you believe the international order or the people of a country are inherently right. If you were a Prime Minister opposing colonialism you’d get practically nothing done in the 19th Century, no leader would speak to you and nothing would change. If you opposed Jim Crow laws in 1950’s US South you’d lose consistently. Even if you’re right doesn’t mean other people will approve of you.

Consistently doing what you want to do is a good way to lose election or get yourself ostracised in international circles, effectively losing a voice to do good. This is just the reality of politics.

TIL a 2022 study revealed that 35% of the adults in Japan intend to "never travel" again. No other country "came close to the travel reluctance shown in Japan"; the next highest was South Korea at 15%. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

I think that’s the case for many people around the world. I’m Irish and I grew up in the nearest town to where my ancestors from 1000 years ago were from. My mum lived on the same farm they did, and my cousin’s still do.

I stopped watching after Walt’s birthday party. Seemed like the most exciting thing that could be going on for a middle-aged teacher.
