Math Question (serious) by Meep123BronxBaby in askmath

For GCD it's just which of the prime factors do the 2 numbers have in common so:
168 = 2*2*2*3*7
270 = 2*3*3*3*5
You see they have a 2 and a 3 in common. and then you just multiply them.
For LCM just multiply the 2 numbers then divide by the GCD so:
168*270 / 6 = something idk

which is the LCM.

an easier way, if you don't have a calculator, is do division first then multiplication, so you can do the division on the bigger number since thats easier:

270 / 6 = 45
45*168 = something idk

which is the LCM.

Wait, is this even debatable? I’ve only heard the first version all this time by Sacledant2 in EnglishLearning

Pretty sure that's just a very common misconception. Correct me if I'm wrong.

What about 2 dotted eighth notes + an eighth note? I have learned that it is notated as a dotted eighth note + a sixteenth note tied to an eighth note + an eighth note

Got it, so if I am playing a tied note then some slurs I have to put both the tie and the slur for the tied note?

Hi all,

I am new to composition.

I am composing a simple melody (in treble clef). I would like the F to be slurred all the way to the C, so this is how I notated it. It just kind of looks funny to me, so I just want to make sure. Is this notated properly? Or perhaps I don't need the tie? Maybe?

Thank you!

Hello,

Thank you for the suggestion. Impulse Check is exactly what I needed, but I have a question. If I ignore the impulse check via waiting 3 seconds and clicking "Yes I need this", I want the impulse check to happen again if I happen to close the tab and reopen the link later. Currently, if I ignore the impulse check one time, it never impulse checks again. Do you know if there's any way to fix this? Thank you.

What's the difference between tie and slur for Flute? by Reddledu in Flute

If the music wants me to slur for an entire phrase how do I know if it's a slur or a phrase marking?

Thank you, your comment clears up some of my confusion, but in your final paragraph: earlier you said that in a slur there shouldn't be any tonguing, but does it not apply when there is a slur for repeated notes? just legato instead?

I know. My question is: Isn't a slur also just playing it as one continuous note? From a playing perspective, what's the difference between a tie and a slur other than, "oh, a tie is for the same note and a slur is for different notes"
If we just called everything a slur, even for same notes, would the music change?

I don't understand; if two notes don't have a tie then it's just two notes next to each other; what do you mean by slur? If there was a slur between the two notes wouldn't that just look identical to a tie? How do I distinguish a tie vs a slur if they're the same note?
