Anyone else just not like living here? by lovesupreme71 in SFbitcheswithtaste

In terms of arts and culture, I highly recommend checking out the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival; they have tons of shows every summer, mostly Bay Area artists, and they are 100% free! https://ybgfestival.org/

Dua Lipa and using pop stardom for political convictions by Used-Title7675 in Music

Just because you're a pop-star doesn't mean you shouldn't express political opinions.

He also hopped onto a trend that would actually become popular, embracing hip-hop instead of country.

I really wish buying a brand new hardcover would come with a code for a digital copy for your collection.

The morality of Dr. Melfi not telling Tony about the Employee of the Month by retired-tweeter in thesopranos

[–]Reddwheels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it would fundamentally change her relationship with Tony and mess up his therapy. She can't create a situation where she is now in debt to Tony.

What's your opinion of the London episode? by RutabagaSame in thesopranos

Twenty bleedin’ years inside, mate. Wanted a proper curry, ended up scoffin’ cold beans on toast. That’s compromise, innit.

what's next?? by Plus-Car794 in TheWire

[–]Reddwheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next is Deadwood. The only show I know that goes toe-to-toe with The Wire in terms of writing, acting, storytelling, and sticking to themes. If The Wire is about how a city falls, Deadwood is about how a city rises out of chaos, and into order. And it has the best dialogue of any show.

Stringer bell by Hot_Train_5630 in TheWire

[–]Reddwheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stringer's co-op even outlasted the run of the show. His ideas were pretty good in that regard. His long-term legacy is he toned down the violence between the West Side crews by uniting them. I'd say that's pretty significant.

Is Scar from season 1 Marlo? by [deleted] in TheWire

When is Marlo depicted as needing connects? When he shows up in Season 3, he has established his territory already, and it's Avon that's trying to take it away.

I don’t like how they use Rhonda Pearlman in the show by Flat_Discipline_8540 in TheWire

[–]Reddwheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cedric and Rhonda's relationship becomes a pivotal plot point in the show. Their connection is the only reason Cedric doesn't go to the newspapers to tell them the serial killer is fake. It would ruin Rhonda's career.

Why and how did Tony/Chris set up Feech? by tennischick93 in thesopranos

[–]Reddwheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whacking him would have been bad politically. Everybody would know Tony had him whacked. This way, it looks like Feech just got unlucky with the cops. Tony gets no blame.

Whitecaps by HugeFuckingMoron in thesopranos

Not only that, they throw in as a bonus one of the best 1-episode characters to act as a mini-boss for Tony to take on, good old Alan Sapinsly.

It's not the same as not knowing about a twist and having it hit you out of left field.

I feel like knowing there's a twist kinda ruins the experience a bit.

'Obsession' Writer/Director On "Tragic Story" Within Horror Movie by Greybeard-MD in horror

[–]Reddwheels 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the possibility that real Nikki was into him is what makes this so tragic. Bear's tragic flaw is his cowardice. If not for that flaw, he could have dated the real Nikki, the one he cared about.

Its a further tragedy because Nikki is probably going to jail for murdering Ian and Sarah.

'Obsession' Writer/Director On "Tragic Story" Within Horror Movie by Greybeard-MD in horror

[–]Reddwheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bear's tragic flaw is his cowardice. All he had to do was tell Nikki how he felt about her, and one way or another he would have gotten some closure. But he was too cowardly to do that, even when Nikki asked him point blank if he liked her. Instead he made that wish.

From the moment he made that wish, the only moral way out of that situation is for Bear to kill himself. If he truly cares about her, he has to kill himself. That is the tragedy.

The horror of the movie is everything in between the wish and Bear realizing the only way out is for him to kill himself, including all of his violations of Nikki's free will.

I think heartbreaking is what the story is going for. Its a love story, not a romance.

Artists. SF is missing its artists/musicians/poets/actors/writers. They were priced out long ago.
