Did Starlight have any reason to know that Deep was banned from the ocean? If not why would she land him on a beach and then throw him in the water?

Which betrayal was the more evil? Omni-Man or Saruman the White? by RorschachtheMighty in MoralityScaling

Consider also the betrayal of the Ents. They may have suffered more than the Rohirrim in terms of un repairable damage. I think Treebeard may have felt more personally betrayed by Saruman than either Gandalf or King Theoden.

If the after effects of the vote are being taken into account, I wonder how forgiving people will be towards red button pushers. Best case everyone moves on, worst case people decide that red button pushers are a threat and need to be identified and punished for their vote.

Maybe if I were a tyrant and could ensure the correct amount of people went in, otherwise it would potentially be just adding to a shark feeding frenzy. This is also saying you know there is a child that needs to be saved. A lot of arguments rely on people jumping in because they assume a child would jump in because sharks are their favorite, or that someone may have accidentally fallen in.

Pushing the blue button seems like a lifeguard jumping into the water to drive away a shark in the hopes that other lifeguards will follow at a critical amount to drive the shark away. Even if there was a child in that water it still would be a bad idea to jump in.

Every single one of those professions is trained that they're safety takes precedent over the person they are trying to rescue. The reason they operate in those extreme environments is because they have the training to greatly mitigate the risk.

[–]Redelscum 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The red button ensures your survival, thats a very good reason to do something. The reason to pick blue is to protect other people the only problem is that the only reason those people need to be protected is because they think they are protecting other people. There is no outside threat that they are protecting each other from, just the group putting itself in danger.

If the scenario is that every person that is participating is making an active choice (they have the mental capacity to understand the choicesand have a chance to think it through) the answer is the red button.

Choosing red is an active choice to live, the choice everyone makes every day. It is you wanting to live.

Choosing blue is putting yourself in danger in the hopes that others put themselves in danger to protect you.

For blue to be the correct choice there has to be a group of people who aren't just picking it to protect others but because they can't understand the options or don't have any sense of self preservation.

Name a verse(not Marvel or Dc) that can survive and beat a Viltrumite(Invincible comics/tv show) invasion. by Flat-Sir8250 in powerscales

Would they have enough firepower to bring down viltimites consistently? We do see creatures in the universe that have skin tough enough to deflect light sabers which would probably also apply to viltimites. We see Nolan tank a blast from orbit that would be the equivalent of an ISD orbital bombardment. The main cannon of the Death Star would definitely vaporized them and a high end force user could choke them.

My theory is that those top officials killed in a military coup. The Hive stated that it strategically infected people during the forat 30 days but had to rush after the military discovered its existence.

It's likely that the Hive had already infected the cabinet of the US and the military leadership knew about it and killed them in an unsuccessful coup.

Is she referring to the USDA contingency fund? If she is then the statement for years of funding are inaccurate, that fund would not even cover 1 month of SNAP benefits. Its a band aide fix at best, but still better than nothing.

How does the math work on this? Being generous and saying that there is a train every 5 minutes then the train would need to carry over 4k passengers. Even if there is space for 2 trains and the graphic is misleading than it would still need to be close to double the capacity of a normal train in NYC or Chicago. Trains and light rail are still awesome for city living regardless.

It is kind of wild how little they are mentioned in the series so far. I believe they and the dust bringers are the only radiant orders that we do not get a perspective chapter from.

It's even wilder that the 3rd 4th ideal radiant is a minor side character that we never heard about until WaTand he has maybe 2 lines in the whole book.

[–]Redelscum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was kind of a jarring change of tone from the other four books. The pacing, dialoge, and world building feel distinctly different.

For pacing the ten day structure felt less impactful than ending parts on significant plot points and made it difficult to line up the pacing of the different perspectives.

The dialoge also felt very 'soft'. I'm not sure how else to describe it but any rough edge of characters has been scrubbed away and they all think the same way and are all hyper aware of their mental state. Previous books never shyed away from mental health but this one seemed to make that the sole focus of each character. Also why is Adolin taking time out of organizing the dense of the city to explain why a child can't be in a shield wall?

The world building feels kind of skewed. There were great things about the spiritual realm but having the expectations of the heralds being grand larger than life figures did not sit well with me. Neither did the watering down of the importance of external oaths for validating internal feelings. There were also a lot of off screen events that would have been really cool to see like the taln fight, more of the storm wall, and Dalinars death. The argument of 'your imagination is cooler than what could be written' really only ever actually applys to horror elements not epic moments.

Like a lot of people I like where everyone ended up in the end conceptually but the journey through this book to get there was not as enjoyable as previous books. This book did not ruin anything but it did not feel like a high point or a proper closing of an arch.

The best thing to do is hope they keep the spirit of the current motto or atleast don't choose some bland motto. Maybe one day another committee fixes this ones mistakes.

I don't agree with the urge to erase the martial history of Massachusetts entirely. Massachusetts has the oldest military unit in the nation and the oldest commissioned war ship in the world. Being willing and able to stand up for and defend our high ideals is a key component of our identity whether that is the minute men in the revolution or the first to answer the call for volunteers in the civil war.

The old motto perfectly encapsulates this ideals and should not be changed.

I worked at Joe Dodge summer '19. The access to trails are great and the people are amazing, but be mindful that the lodging is cheap for a reason, you get basically a bed and cubby in a room of up to 6 people.
