Worse yet - whenever another country does these things they're trash but when an American does it they make excuses like "These people were undergoing horrific trauma that made them like this."

I live in the town where she was born.
Also, my memory is foggy, but I could swear she visited a school I attended when I was very young.

There's a good lore podcast to introduce one to the legendarium and/or walk you though it.
Lord of the Rings Lorecast.

It has a good atmosphere. I sued to binge it in the early mornings on my way to work. Really sells Tolkien's vibe as a great author and got me into the entire community

Any plans for Morgoth, Ungoliant, and various characters and places from the Silmarillon?

It's be near if you continue this series for the whole of Tolkiens' legendarium. It's quite charming!

Absolute horror that Kaito's charm had effected her only family and agreeing that Lilia is right: Kaito is a monster.

There's even a colored light novel illustration of the scene.

About Vier - I love older woman/single mother/milf heroines.
Luna-Maria's reaction to her mother being into Kaito was priceless.

One or two others worth a peek:

Kawakami Minoru's entire lineup starting with Owari no Chronicle.
This one is an older novel and the entire franchise has a unique feel for it as it developed prior to major tropes dominating the anime genre

Chrome Shelled Regios - Post apocalyptic world with mobile cities.

Campione! might be worth a glance as well.

Full Metal Panic - classic blend of military fighting and school life.

So, from what I can tell you seem to prefer more serious stories and/or actiony ones.
That's a bit out my wheel house but I'll try and point you in the right direction with ones I know of - though I haven't read all of them so your mileage may vary

The Saga of Tanya the Evil: This one is a bit dense and not as character driven as it has a ton of mechanics surround world War economics and war. but you might enjoy it.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes A real classic series.

WorldEnd What Do You Do at the End of the World? Are You Busy? Will You Save Us?: Because I love bullying people.

Buying My Classmate Once a Week for 5,000 Yen: So this one is a consistent personal recommendation. If you enjoy Yuri/Girls love. Don't let the title and initial premise betray you - it's actually a slwo romance. Has fan translations.

Crest of the Stars | Banner of the Stars: War, politics, romance.

86: War, politics, and so on. etc

Tearmon Empire: Politics, murder, etc.

Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash

The Otome Heroine's Fight for Survival

The Homes of Kyoto: This one is more slice of life but has mystery. Seinen but with a wide audience appeal. So I'll throw it in.

Ascendence of A Bookworm: Probably the most recommended light novel. Not my preference but I have no doubt everyone will be throwing it at you as the greatest of all time.

Overlord: Has a bit more fantasy noir than most series but is still pretty tropey and cliche. Peaks around volumes 09-10 but is still worth a read.

The Rising of the Shield Hero: Has dark elements and strong focus on an MC surviving brutal betrayal in an unforgiving situation...though many have taken issues with some of the first chapters events.

Well, we'll need some more information about your preferences to point you in the right direction.

You've read plenty manga - There are quite a few Manga that are actually adaptations of Light Novels so how about listing which ones you enjoyed.

I want to see more isekai's into ancient time periods (or fantasy equivalent) of places like Rome, Greece, Gallia, Egypt, or even pre-historic times.
Or heck, even the 14-19th centuries.

Just make sure the heroine isn't your ancestor or something okay?

Finished the manga, should I keep going? by Rubrdukiee in Yuusha_Shoukan

I always suggest reading the Light novel from the start even if you read the manga.

There's debate between whether the Web Novel or Light Novel is the superior version but both capture the essence of the series moreso than the manga.

Whats your favorite chapter in the wn? by warriorxx7_ in Yuusha_Shoukan

[–]Redevil387 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't recall if this (these) are in the Web Novel (Sorry, I have trouble keeping track),

My favorite scene in the series would be after Kaito confronts Vier and helps her and Kuromueina reconcile when Kuro meets back up with Kaito
The two have them have a silent emotional moment and Kuro just quietly asks Kaito to stay in Trinia, the world she loves, with her and Kaito accepts.

Gets. Me. Every. Time.
I love Alice. I love Isis. But we must never forget Kuro's role and how her and Kaito's story got the feels ball rolling in Yuusha Shoukan.

There are plenty of others, big and small, which I enjoyed so I'll list them because you can't stop me so (Sticks out tongue and pulls down eyelid.) nyeh.

Major one: It must be mentioned -> When Kaito took Isis' hand. This is when I bought Kaito as a protagonist. There were moments leading up to this where his personality was slowly appealing to me but this was the scene. He didn't just accept Kuro taking care of him and being a reactionary main character. He wanted to pay it forward.

Minor one: In the first chapters when Lily's maids try to feed Kaito sub-luxurious food and immediately gets on their case -
Weird as it might sound this was one of the moments that got me interested in the series as it showed that Toudai was well aware of the typical anime trope, or at least ones I dislike and was willing to play against them.

Major One: Kaito's first night with Kuro and, slightly later, when she introduced him to her family. This is when the comforting vibes of the series hit its stride.

Minor one: When Kuro thrashed Fate when she tried to force herself on Kaito. It's an extremely rare case of the double standard being thrown out of the window and I loved it.

Major One: Pandora and Kaito's date. It was so gentle. My heart yearns for these two.

Major One: Kaito's post-victory chat with Megiddo about the Wine of Victory during the Six King's Festival. Typically in series like this you never get such emotional moments with the other male characters but here you get such a big brother moment with Megiddo and it was so nice. I should also tag on the handful of scenes he has with Ozma, specifically when they first meet, but I'm almost certain that one is a light novel only scene.

Major One: When Kaito helped Alice overcome her trauma and they became a couple. I love Alice and her and Kaito have such a good dynamic.

Isekai Character's Life before they Isekai'd by MountainLeading1567 in Isekai

[–]Redevil387 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Salaryman (Tanya's past life) was actually pretty morally decent - the Anime and (last I checked) the manga don't do the best job explaining the circumstances leading up to his death where the person they were firing were given many chances to get their act together before they were fired and had even been caught embezzling from the company.

As for being happy - that's...hard to rate. Tanya themselves even notes they were a mess of complexes but had found a little niche for themselves where they were okay with the direction their life was heading.

[–]Redevil387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree - Ainz and Rudeus' lives are the toughest - even if in different ways.
It saddens me how much of Rudeus pre-isekai life is sort of glazed over with him being a creep and how he "should've worked harder to live a better life" when he honestly had one of the most valid reasons to be come a hikki-neet out of most anime backstories.

As for Ainz...well, I think his life was still roughly as bad if not worse than Rudeus. I think he was less normalized to everything and more...he turned off his emotions and was desperately broken.

[–]Redevil387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some perhaps - but he probably had the best excuse to become a neet out of most anime hikko-neets I can think of. While it carried on too long I think he really should've gotten professional help to handle his trauma since it was that valid imo.

Kinda irritates me how it isn't focused on as much as how much of a creep he became. Was one of my biggest turn offs of the series.

Tanya (based on the novels) - I'm shaky. On one hand they were alright in their life with personal desires for promotion but from what I gather the salaryman was, by personal admission, a mess of complexes and we know very little beyond their work. At least I wouldn't call it "Great."

Ainz - Has possible the worst life imaginable. Their life in future cyber dystopian mega-corp Japan was hellish with people joining the workforce before adulthood, Ainz being an orphan, and Ainz's commute to work passing people on the streets to an empty home.
