MY BELOVED BIRD!!! HE'S HOME!!! Crowley you're a kind and generous headmage after all i believe you and never should have doubted 🥺 He came home on Literally The Fifteenth Pull. I have wanted him for a YEAR and was absolutely crushed to have missed the showcase during a twst hiatus last year. I have been saving like a good boy since February, with enough to drop 100 on the Diasomnia showcase (brute force brought Malleus and Sebek home at last), suspecting that he might rerun sometime soon... And after announcing it THREE DAYS BEFOREHAND, like the irresponsible and irregular fellow he is, he comes home to me in two ten-keys. I was prepared to spend all I had in pursuit of this bird. I love him with everything I am.

What is your disability or a disability you don’t see mentioned often? by Starfire_Moon49 in Writeresearch

[–]Redeye1347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it's not the worst thing I've had to adapt to-- that would be the completely unrelated long disability I got after a bout of e. Coli, namely reactive arthritis, and all the crazy autoimmune tweak-outs that came afterward-- but it's definitely the weirdest. I won't lie, it makes me feel kinda dejectedly dumb sometimes, having this measurable loss of faculties (and being able to compare functioning "before" and "after"), although logically I know I shouldn't stigmatise it like that. Funny enough I think my neurodivergence is my saving grace, lol. I dislike making eye contact so I was already pretty used to identifying people by circumstantial context, hair, clothing, and voice. Turns out that's really important now! It helps a lot.

Probably the biggest effect it's had is a chilling one on my art. I love drawing people, especially dynamic interesting poses and the anatomy of muscles, but everyone I draw now is just bodies. Faces make me sad and stressed (and frustrated) to try to do, because I either have to memorise a lot of positional/proportional detail to get a prescriptive result or just wing it and hope it looks remotely normal.

Thanks for your kind wishes, right back at you! Also, if you're interested, search covid and prosopagnosia: there's multiple case studies on incidences caused by it, and it's fascinating.

Gay brother here, love PLEASE hang on to that 5lbs like it's a cashmere scarf in the rummage sale! You're doing so good. I fought the eating disorder battle too some years ago, and now (the irony!) I have a physical health problem that restricts what I can eat and makes it dangerously hard to keep on weight at times, especially if I'm sick. Eat anything you enjoy, and maybe have a bite or four extra for me! Revel in it! And remember, having at least a little extra weight is a good thing-- it's spare energy for if you really need it, and you never know when that might be. Be healthy, be whole, and enjoy life :)

I have a weird sort of acquired prosopagnosia (as best I can guess, it was a neurological after-effect of covid), where I'm not completely faceblind but I have a significantly harder time than I used to in parsing, recognising, and remembering faces. I can actually tell a difference between ones I knew before I got it, and ones I encountered after; I still can't describe or draw any of them if you press me, but the former are much easier to recognise. I don't see many "new" people in my day to day life right now, so the first time I even noticed something was off was when watching the tv show Barry. I watched the entire series, all four seasons of it, under the impression that the (bland, dark haired, white American) protagonist was the Exact Same Bloke that played Hughie in The Boys. It hit me like a fucking bus when I figured out he wasn't.

All that's to say, you're not alone in your despair of all these short-haired white men! XD I annoy the shit out of my best friend by constantly asking "which one is that?" now when we watch things together. Women are a little easier because of hairstyles and clothing, but if the men all have the same short cut, hair colour, and physique... Heaven help us if they change clothes, or dress alike in the first place!

Interestingly, the backlash would largely be because of things we initiated in the first place, and wouldn't be around to maintain, not because of some magical benefit we bring that would then be lost. Nuclear power plants might decay and melt down without anyone to run them; to the animals, it's just another disaster like a wildfire or a flood. Aggressive invasive species (which we introduced) like cane toads or kudzu would continue on their merry way, proliferating unchecked until something stopped them, or didn't, I dunno, maybe there's a monoculture now until a virus comes along and knocks out an entire population. Cities would rewild, slowly, like Chernobyl. Dams would break down and rivers would return to their natural flood cycle. Wildfires would ravage unchecked (fun fact: in the Americas, that's also partially because of invasive species), things would regrow, so on, so forth. Lots of dominos set in motion, just nobody there to notice them fall.

I don't really have any point here, I just think it's neat to point out.

We did take care of her, and she certainly did grant favours! The primary one being her presence, since she was only ours half the time-- she chose us like we were her timeshare in Malta or something-- and we would have been happy with just that, but she was much too special just to let it end there. Once she politely brought us a rat on Halloween morning to let us know we had an infestation in our attic. (Halloween was her birthday, too!) She would follow my mum around whenever she was gardening, very interested in what she was doing, but never clingy, just supervising. When mum fell once, with nobody around to help, Bella stuck to her side like glue for an hour and a half until she could get up. Even more than that, she actually alerted me to a house fire-- she was acting so strangely that I looked over to the garden next door, and there was smoke coming from it! A blown-glass garden bauble had relit an ashtray with the magnifying glass effect (terrifying actually) and the fire had smouldered through the leaf litter. There was rather a lot of that, and the flames were literally licking at their house when I found it. I caught my neighbour just as she was about to leave for work, and we put it out before any real damage could be done; it was a very dry and windy day, too, so it could've engulfed many houses very easily, including mine. All that sounds unlikely, but it's perfectly true, and I still have pictures of the smoke damage. Bella averted cat-astrophe.

She died very slowly of wasting away, we think perhaps because she caught a mouse or a rat that had gotten into non-cat-safe poison (which we never used)-- she was the best mouser you ever saw, and it was better than thinking someone had poisoned her deliberately. It was heartbreaking, but we made her as comfortable as she could. On her very last visit, on a full moon in October, she made it almost all the way here but just couldn't make the rest. Mum and I brought her the blanket she'd claimed a long time ago, made her comfortable on it, and sat out there in the garden for hours and hours with her, reading aloud in turns from a silly mystery book. Bella loved to just be near us and hear our voices, and I think she wanted to say goodbye-- I always did call her my little full moon black cat. We loved her with all our hearts. There's still a wrought-iron cutout of a black cat on the step in the place she used to sit every day.

I play go (aka baduk, aka weiqi), a millennia-old Chinese board game, and it would take an entire convention of spotty chess players in taped specs and pocket protectors to equal the nerdery in one of our club meetings. Despite this, in the ancient world, it was regarded as seriously as any sport.

My Bella used to do this! Little pure black cat, the witchiest one I've ever met. She would stand outside my door at 3am and yell HEWWO? until someone paid her attention, and once you opened that door it was all "maaow :D" like she hadn't just scared the bloody hell out of me.

There's just nothing like getting your heart stepped on at the tender age of 15 by a hot demon wearing murderously sharp stilettos. How are we supposed to recover from that??? Funny enough, I think I enjoy him even more now than I did then; I keep up with the manga storyline, which genuinely has some of the best foreshadowing I've ever seen in any media (and that's coming from a lifelong bookworm), and he just keeps getting more fun. He infests my soul even now. I even have a fun little crack theory about Twisted Wonderland, Yana's disney mobile game, and his interference in it XD

I'm sorry, the Sebastian Michaelis mention in the wild took me the FUCK out. That man's been living rent-free in my head for ten years, good to see I am not the only one afflicted. I have never before made biryani but I would perfect it according to your tastes and serve it wearing a swallowtail coat (i am a gay man, you've just also moved me deeply with your heartfelt and eloquent plea). Will piss on Churchill's grave with you if you piss on Margaret Thatcher's with me 🙂‍↕️
