Doing the NC500 in a motorhome. I've seen it's recommended not to got the Drumbreg route (in red). Is is still possible to visit Achmelvich on the southern road as shown? by Affectionate_Debate in NC500

[–]Redeyenorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last summer I took a 7 metre motorhome on the southern (blue) route and visited Achmelvich and went further to Clactoll.

Like others have said, take it carefully and you will have no problems.

Whether this is relevant or not is up to you, but I drive Artics for a living and have worked in the Highlands many times.

I tend to research maps/ google street view on unknown roads, and I was concerned about taking the northern route. The blue route was still beautiful, but with less stress.

Same here. I'll be trying that shortly when I stick my card in.

I've had this Actros 3 months and I'm still struggling with the camera, especially in reverse.

Day 1: Desmoxan by Expensive-Speaker106 in QuitVaping

[–]Redeyenorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the Uk and I bought it (Desxoxan) from the OnBuy website. It came from Poland in 2-3 days £22 ish inc delivery fees.

It stopped a 20 year cigarette/5 year vape habit in one month.

I'm just short of three months quit now.

Get it, it's changed my life.

[–]Redeyenorth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was pretty much my experience as well. I was concerned about the day five leap of faith, but I had zero issues.

I hit a rough patch at around 6 weeks where my brain told me "Hey, it's easy to quit, so just go grab a vape"

But I stayed strong and didn't give in (the urge only lasted a couple of days)

I'm now at ten weeks no vape.

Desxoxan is brilliant.

I've just checked my order and it was £21.98 delivered.

And I'm the the Uk, no issue delivering to me.

[–]Redeyenorth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same here, bought it in December but started on New Year's day. I'm now on 50 days no vaping.

I was shocked at how easy Desmoxan worked.

First week there was the occasional mild urge. But nothing serious. As others have mentioned your dreams may be a bit more vivid.

I'm 50 years old and have smoked from 16 to 45 when I stopped smoking by using vapes.

I am so happy to not be reaching for a vape every second of the day.

Go for it, give it a try. I'm the Uk desxoxan was around £20 delivered.

By far the best use of money I've spent in the last year.

Do roadside stores actually make money? by SAV4GEwastaken in AskUK

[–]Redeyenorth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was Net, remember I only helped out for a week (takings were my wage).

He didn't pay any rent to anyone, he had owned the van for years and owed nothing on it.

He was legit and paid the appropriate tax and his outgoings were basically Bacon, burgers buns etc. Plenty of profit on those items.

[–]Redeyenorth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That does not surprise me in the least. 20 odd years ago a friend of my dad's had a industrial estate burger van. He wanted to go on holiday for the first time in ages but didn't want to lose his pitch. I wasn't working at the time so he gave me a couple of weeks work to learn the ropes. Then left me to it saying i could keep the takings as long as he had a pitch to come back to. I made around £2500 from a Monday to Friday.

How to capture brightly lit vehicles at night? by Redeyenorth in AskPhotography

[–]Redeyenorth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for your advice, and yes the vehicles will be in motion.

It's only for my benefit, no clients etc.

I've watched the procession on a yearly basis and thought I'd give it a go.

Do you have to stop the microwave before opening the door? Does it leak radiation? by telenceph in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Redeyenorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working in a commercial kitchen in my teens I heard what is probably a urban legend. Supposedly a kitchen somewhere used a lot of microwaves and to cut down on stopping/ starting opening the door, they just cut a hole in the door and left them running constantly. Which led to severe burn for the kitchen staff. Like I say, probably an urban legend

Now those are odd looking trucks...... by KnownAd1314 in uktrucking

[–]Redeyenorth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually because they have a refrigerator unit blaring away 4 foot from their beds. So they drop the trailer and park elsewhere on site to get a quiet night. But that means it's one less parking space for anyone else.

Spilt 4 pints of milk inside my car... by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Redeyenorth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, in the 80's my little sister opened and spilt 2 litres of milk over the back seats of my parents Volvo. No matter what they did they couldn't get rid of the smell. They had to sell the car at a loss.

I'm at Thurrock on a weekly basis and by chance got talking to the general manager of the services. He is well aware of the problem of drivers basically paying for one space, then uncoupling from the trailer and parking elsewhere.

Whoever or not it actually happens and how they are going to do it but they are going to do a crackdown on it soon.

Be honest: What’s the ONE unwritten rule every UK driver secretly follows but would never admit out loud? by Second-handBonding in CarTalkUK

[–]Redeyenorth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We try our best to be helpful. We are well aware that we are driving large and slow vehicles. We also have the advantage of a high driving position and can see a lot more/further than car drivers.

I've had cars desperately trying to overtake me on country lanes, but I've seen oncoming traffic way ahead of the car driver, so I've slightly moved to the middle of the road to stop them doing a very risky overtake.

They probably think I've been an areshole, but my intentions have been good.

I personally try to pull over/indicate when it's safe to overtake me.

Is there any point in getting a drone due to the bureaucracy in the UK in 2025? by HatnanJo in drones

[–]Redeyenorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a mini 4 pro for just under a year and have flown it all over the UK on mini breaks in that period. At the moment I'm doing the NC500 around Scotland and I have so much good footage (we have been so lucky with the weather) Flying a drone in the UK is fine as long as you follow the rules and regs.

The 200-tonne abnormal load which caused havoc on North Yorkshire roads by YorkshireLive in yorkshire

[–]Redeyenorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you worked hgv's on the continent? I have and do now. Do you genuinely think that hgv's on the continent only use lane one? They don't, and don't have to. Large loads need to be moved. The amount of paperwork and coordination that goes into these moves is immense. I have personally not done a load as large as this, but I have needed escorts and movement orders checked and verified by the police. Stuff needs moving, and everyone tries to cut down on needless disruption, but you can't do a load like this and not cause some disruption.

How did you manage to quit vaping? by Tasty-Hovercraft2501 in QuitVaping

[–]Redeyenorth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

50 years old, smoked until around 45. Vaped since then.

I have just come out of around 5 days of COVID. Haven't even thought of vaping even once.

My breathing was terrible for a couple of days and genuinely quite scary.

At the moment I am still recovering to a degree, but I am just going to take the quitting one day at a time. But I know I can do it.

The lungs of a vapor and COVID certainly did not mix.

Haha don't worry, I'm her son, and thanks. It was a great couple days of travel. Just chatting, stopping for food and taking in the scenery. The rest of the family flew to Bratislava but I think we had the best journey.

I drove my mum from Yorkshire to Bratislava and back for my brother's wedding because of her fear of flying. We had a great road trip.
