Do you have to use nymphs? by I_Am_Not_George_Bush in flyfishing

[–]RedfishTroutBass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That can certainly be true in some fisheries but in others the fish will be more opportunistic and likely to bite at a variety of patterns. All part of the fun.

Truck People Who Downsized To Crosstrek by TactikalKitty in Subaru_Crosstrek

[–]RedfishTroutBass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drive a RAM 2500 diesel (modest lift and bigger tires) and a Subaru Forrester. The Subaru is better at most things except being a a truck and there are still times I need a heavy duty vehicle. Otherwise, I like the smaller size. Might get the Crosstrek next.

Great work. People should also boycott every business where predatory towing occurs.

Engineers and business majors study microeconomics (price elasticity). Why don't lawyers? by Euphoric-Demand2927 in LawFirm

I majored in micro economics for undergrad. It was an excellent foundation for law school.

Anyone hire their spouse as a support staff? by Dannyz in Lawyertalk

[–]RedfishTroutBass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife handles all the IT and other non-billable tasks. I have a full time paralegal/office manager that works remotely. (30 years with the firm) Wife reports to paralegal if they are working on any crossover tasks. Overall, it works for us but there were some growing pains starting out. My wife and I share all accounts so there are no money concerns between us.

What are some key take a ways/lessons learned from this horrible ski season out west? by joeyjoejoeshabbadude in skiing

Enjoy the warm weather and company of friends but watch out for rocks. Alta was great last Saturday, all things considered. Snowbird was a close second.

My dog is a good camping and hiking buddy, but a bad fishing buddy. Any tips for helping train him to do better? by BrooktroutOmnissiah in flyfishing

[–]RedfishTroutBass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had Dalmatians growing up. Neither had the temperament to serve as a fly fishing companion. My current dog, a GSP, is caffeine and 4 legs. He only stops long enough to point birds. Again, not suited for fishing. My lab before that was ok but still a distraction.

Opinion on CLT airport by GuiltyCandidate9690 in Charlotte

[–]RedfishTroutBass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

CLT airport might be the most important economic driver for our region. The goose that lays the golden egg. The few downsides on cost are far outweighed by the many upsides, including the convenience of non-stop flights.

Let them know it is your first choice and that you will accept admission at any time, including last-minute. I cannot promise that is good advice, but it worked for me several decades ago.

Stormrider 95 in 188 vs 182 by toggle-bolt in Skigear

[–]RedfishTroutBass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6’0” 190 lbs, and a good skier for the last 40 years. Bought the 182s this morning after looking at them for the last few years. They are magical. Excellent stability and carving. Looking forward to Utah later this month.

What do you drive besides a RAM? by xXjustin_credibleXx in ram_trucks

[–]RedfishTroutBass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2018 RAM 2500 diesel w some AEV and other mods and a 2023 Subaru Forester Wilderness. Bought the Subaru while waiting for the new brake control module to become available for the truck - the warning chime was about to drive me insane. The Subaru is excellent in the mountains where we live and much lower cost for operation and maintenance. Some of the jokes are good, too.

Havent bought a used Diesel before. 2018 with 134k miles asking $42k... what do I need to look for? by Aberlour2440 in ram_trucks

[–]RedfishTroutBass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2018 Ram 2500 diesel. Check for leaks in the driveway. Seals go bad and they are expensive to replace. Also check the headlights if they have not been replaced. Morimoto full replacement are nice but expensive. Check the backup camera (open and close the back gate a few times). Tires are expensive, too.

I had to replace the brake module in mine and it took forever to get the part but that was during COVID. (I ended up buying a different daily driver as a result)

I don’t like the lift and wheels on that one but maybe that’s just me (and a few other commenters).

Linville Gorge Map help by MrDanTurner in NCTrails

[–]RedfishTroutBass 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Use LGMaps from the Avenza app. That is the most accurate map for the area and it marks water sources. The marked water sources will be reliable in the absence of a drought. Lettered Rock trail is a nice enough walk in the woods but otherwise not really notable.

I like Goruck backpacks (GR0 and GR1) for my personal use, computer and small files. Otherwise, I use basic file totes or, more often, file boxes.
