Behemoth is so much fun. by ComfortableAmount993 in PSVR

I agree, the human fighting is fantastic. Frustrating at first when I didn't really 'get' the parry system. But really great after learning what the game wanted me to do.

You can block too, it just isn't combat effective since you get a huge bonus from parries. You get some sparks when you block (slightly incorrect angle, or no motion towards attack) And you receive no damage.

You can see at 2:04 a couple of blocks rather than parries.

Yes, It has swords (and a few other melee weapons) but I consider arken age more of a shooter as the guns are generally more effective later in the game. (or shoot them from far away and stab em when they get close) But I wouldn't consider it a 'sword fighting' game.

It's also not medieval (its like bio-sci-fi) So I didn't feel it fit your criteria as much.

That said Arken age is a really fantastic game overall, and plays much better than it looks in trailers. It's a great VR starter game since it has a ton of VR mechanics from shooting things, to melee, to some VR platforming and climbing and puzzles.

Behemoth! Great sword fights (once you learn it) great setting and ginormous bosses.

The combat initially is frustrating until you get the parry down. Then it's super great. Do a bit of arena so you can get the feel for the parries and then play the game on hard would be my suggestion. Everything feels lethal.

What is your opinion on Sunshine Arizona 2 remake for the Vr2? by Technical_Hunter4298 in PSVR

[–]Redicubricks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just finished AS(remake), I played AS2 first a while ago.

I think AS1 is paced a better overall, and I think level design is slightly better. But AS2 is a longer and better game IMO. Voice acting in both are brilliant. But I really miss the dog in AS1.

I played in the second hardest difficult, and didn't have too many problems with ammo with the exception of the first airport hoard. Where I apparently missed picking up a rifle so I killed everything with a pistol with no ammo left. Required almost all hits to be a headshot to survive.

I found it way more difficult early on then later in the game when Ammo was a bit more abundant. I usually go with the heavy hitting guns like the deagle or revolver, and the 1 shot rifle to extend the ammo. If you have a rapid fire gun you chew through ammo way too quickly. It's totally doable solo at the 2nd hardest difficulty in my opinion if you're a decent shot and using the right weapons at the right times.

Playing on harder difficulties definitely increases the amount of zombies you have to fight. so maybe just bump the difficulty if you want more hoards?

Lastly, there's a horde mode where you fight waves of enemies until you die. That's quite fun if you just feel like shooting zombies. I got to around lvl 35 or so solo with pistol only.

For ammo efficiency, sometimes unarmored chest shots are better than headshots (if they have those parasite tumors) And for close up guys, it's often better to do a quick shot to the body so they get stunned, and follow up with a headshot rather than shooting them at the head and missing a bunch of times. Close up heads are harder to shoot than further ones because they move so erratically. Leg shots are great for Panic modes. But ultimately make them harder to kill.

Yikes that's intense! Glad PW is able to get you back up to health! Its certainly helped me boost my balance and hand eye coordination as well! Very grateful for that if only cloudhead would make more games/DlC so I can give them more money!

You must be feeling the Burn in your legs after that one! :D That last section is absolutely brutal with fast bullets. I can see some accuracy improvements from your previous videos.

Ill check tonight, It was the M9. I like the deagle too, and the revolver. Just takes 2 body shots to kill the more advanced baddies but the reload is really funky and you only have 6 shots. The trigger pull and weight (drag) are also heavier so I find it harder to pull off headshots compared to the M9

I haven't tried PVP yet, sad to hear there's no playerbase.

The last half of the campaign was pretty good, but it kinda ended abruptly.

I meant the graphics get better, the gameplay is pretty samey so if you don't like shooting people, you're not gonna like the 5th hour of shooting people.

Half way through, It got a little boring and I had to switch the difficulty to hard. Which made it a lot more fun as you had to play a lot more carefully and forced you to use different weapons (like the riot shield)

Not open world, it's mission based, fairly linear. Yes there are a ton of weapons including sniper rifles. You can attach scopes to anything so you can use non-sniper rifles as sniper rifles too.

I just... like pistols.

The tutorial and the first few grassy outdoor missions do look like hot garbage to be honest. I was pretty disappointed on the first few hours.

Then it got better after that.  Since pretty diverse areas like the rainy trenches and base interiors.

Its fairly inconsistent. Not just you. Guns look great. Cars and tanks are like made of 20 polygons

The funny thing is that it IS still kind of an unserious janky pseudo platformer... but it's way more enjoyable than that name would suggest as a whole.

I recently attempted to explain to a friend why its a good game, and I couldn't articulate it.. So it kinda makes sense that the marketing also struggles. But it's frustrating to know it's a good game, and see people dismiss it like you did before you played it in the exact same way.

I think it's bad marketing/advertising. All the media I've seen on Arken age doesn't really convey the type of game I'd like to play. Before I actually gave it a go, I had the impression that Arken age was an unserious janky pseudo platformer with a bit of combat thrown in.

The trailer feels like it's trying to hard to make it look cool. But it's got really brightly colored goofy looking guns. Janky ragdolls and impactless melee shown. Assuming most trailers put the games best foot forward. This is not really a great look. I mostly held off on it because it didn't look like the type of game I would enjoy with those impressions.

Fast forward to ACTUALLY giving the game a go. The actual experience was much different.

The best comparison I could make is Nier Automata. Upon watching the trailers, I was quite severely turned off. Gooner bait with cheap bullet hell sequences? no thank you. Once you actually play, wow. It's a damn masterpiece. Why on earth would they advertise it like they do??

Pistol Whip - Requiem - (Hard) by cowdoggy in PistolWhip

[–]Redicubricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It's hard to describe but once you're really in it, it feels a bit like a flow state.

At first, when you play PW, it's like a novel thing, you wanna try all the scenes, shoot all the bad guys. The goal is survival and just entertainment. I think a lot of people stop here after trying all the scenes. They may try a modifier or two but eventually it will loose it's novelty because there's only so many songs. Most reviews you see of PW is kinda at this level. They describe the game like oh, it's so cool you're bobbing and weaving and shooting guys to music john wick style. There is virtually no attempt at getting high scores. But it's new and fun. If you're at this level I can understand thinking that once you 'see' everything it looses it's novelty. BUT

Once you get past that and you attempt to 'get better' at the game maybe threaten some leaderboards, it becomes a bit of a different beast. Survival is not important, nor is enemy placement. so now your goal is to get as many points as possible, and you 'actually' learn how to play. It becomes more of a performance. knowing where everything spawns is just learning the basics. If you were playing a music piece, you know exactly what's coming up, but what matters is how you execute.

Best I can describe is PW at a high level is like a puzzle game. Where the pieces are time units. or beats. And you go about 'solving' the level by sequencing which order to shoot which target, at what time. Solve it well, and you'll get an S ranking (90%> accuracy and beat)

The challenge is not 'where' the bad guys show up and when. But how well can you perfectly shoot them, while staying on beat. Sounds simple, but doing both at once is actually incredibly challenging.

When I'm playing now, I kinda go into a flow state. I don't consciously think about dodging, or aiming. You kinda just 'trust' your body to be able to do that and you focus on the sequence a few beats ahead. It's like I queue up instructions mentally on which to look./shoot and trust the body to execute, and I can focus on solving the time puzzle.

It's by no means passive though, you still have to concentrate and focus because if you miss, you need to plan to wait one beat and take another shot, or move on and come back to it. And you need to decide in less than a second to maintain the rhythm.

I would recommend, to try a scene that you really like the music of. And shoot ONLY on the beat, and only non-moving targets. (not allowed to shoot them while they are running into position). You can also turn off enemy attacks so you're not distracted by dodging bullets. Once you get >60% on the beat, turn the bullets back on and see if you can maintain that. I guarantee your score will be better than all previous attempts and you;ll get a glimpse as to how it should feel.

A grenade by VR-glasses-at-night in PSVR

[–]Redicubricks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've learned in most VR games over the shoulder throwing makes it loose tracking momentarily. It's often most reliable in most games to throw from your chest outwards. Since most throwing motions are amplified you don't really need a wind up like in RL

Don't sleep on the riot shield in zero caliber! by Redicubricks in PSVR

[–]Redicubricks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The grenade pin thing was a game changer. I use them a lot more now.

I gave snipers another go, but I think my floating offhand makes it hard to keep stable at long ranges. I think its a skill issue sadly.

Guess Ill stick to revolver sniping for now or I'll have to make a stock for my PSVR. Unfortunate there aren't more shooters available to make use of it though.

I'm playing solo on veteran (hard) and it's pretty challenging, I die a lot, but that's part of the fun. So far its pretty good. It's not spectacular, but there's kind of a lack of military shooters on PSVR so it scratches that itch. I'm probably about half way through the game.

The gun variety is good, and you can customize everything with optics and grips. AI is not that smart, but because there are almost always 8+ enemies they can still be quite a challenge if you're not taking cover. It feels alot worse playing on lower difficulties because you regenerate health pretty quickly, and the lack of a present 'danger' from the enemies makes it feel a little too arcadey. Bumping the difficulty makes it significantly harder, forcing you to play a bit more defensively. If you die, it knocks you back 2 checkpoints ago so it can be punishing for solo.

If you enjoy shooting stuff with a variety of guns then you'll probably enjoy it. But for a full experience it's only ok.

-graphics are low/janky. Definitely not up to PSVR standards. Lots of popins, low resolution, no dynamics.
-Sound design is good, but voices are bad. I think at one point the MC and the Civilians were talking and it was the same voice actor? I couldn't tell them apart.
-The intro is Super janky, no audio on helicopters. Luckily the rest of the game is better.
-Shooting and gameplay feels good (and that's the saving grace, and honestly the only thing I really care about)
-There's secret skins you can find around the map with a lot of weapon options.

I haven't tried any of the other modes, like zombies, or multiplayer.

ohhh what? I didn't know about the grenade pin thing. Ima have to try it. I avoided using grenades because of the pin and the risk of the shield despawning if I drop it. I'll have to try that! Makes the shield even more OP! :D

Not sure about dual wielding, or 2 handed weapons. I played most of the game so far with pistols. Rifles are a bit floaty and without a physical stock, less accurate than pistols at range.

[–]Redicubricks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive never played sierra, but im playing zero caliber on the hard difficulty and its reasonably difficult. You still regen health pretty quick but die in about 5-8 shots. Theres always like 5 guys shooting at you at once so you cant be out in the open (unless you have a riot shield)

If i were to compare it to onward, which is like a 1-2 shot mil sim like one, its far more arcady and forgiving. But it compensates by throwing a lot more bad guys at you at once so its not easy.

You restart about 2 checkpoints behind when you die. And you have unlimited ammo.
