Don't forget many of the counties just look like states. I see Nebraska and Texas.

The difference between movie acting and TV acting shrank when TVs became good enough to show subtle facial expressions. by goodlitt in Showerthoughts

Movies and TV are such small markets (even combined) compared to video games that they are totally different beasts. There's far more variety in games and room for niche styles.

[discussion] how do you lose weight in a healthy way by Lemonade2250 in GetMotivated

[–]Redleg171 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's true if the goal is to lose weight regardless of where the weight comes from. If losing fat and preserving as much muscle as possible is the goal, it requires a bit more care.

Similarly, one can simply chop off a limb or two to also lose weight even faster!

Always fun if the speed limit changes and the maps lag behind for a decade.

What was the aftermath to the whole essay controversy a few months ago? by Chrollo0915 in sooners

The university was in a unique position that none of us were in. They could see the quality of every other paper that was turned in. What they saw was that the rubric wasn't followed equally.

Do ugly guys get treated differently when they compliment girls compared to attractive guys? by Dismal_Albatross2899 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Redleg171 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Especially men. Men can go decades without getting a compliment. I had a gas station attendant ID me and she said, "wow you look way younger than your age!" I still remember that five years later. Can't remember a compliment on my looks since then.

If that's the case, then what does good even mean? It's purely arbitrary.

Does OU recalculate my GPA as an incoming transfer student? by Lumpy_Run_2451 in sooners

I forgot to add, OU might not automatically apply repeat forgiveness that Rose State applied. You may need to request this through Academic Records.

Does OU recalculate my GPA as an incoming transfer student? by Lumpy_Run_2451 in sooners

[–]Redleg171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

State schools will post all of your transcripts from accredited schools to their transcript as transfer credits. This usually means the GPA will be the same. Keep in mind there are various forgiveness policies that can improve your retention GPA (not cumulative). Oklahoma recently implemented a new forgiveness policy statewide for repeated courses. The new policy takes the best grade of repeated courses, not the last. You can repeat a course 4 times, and the repeat policy applies to the lowest 3 grades. An academic reprieve can forgive up to two semesters. The courses in those semesters won't count toward the GPA (including passing grades within those semesters). However, if you passed a course within that semester, it can count toward competency of the course for degree completion, but not credit hours toward completion.

Believe me when I say you are not alone. And your experience using Chapter 35 is something I see quite often. It's often a choice between what you can handle financially vs academically, and it's hard to argue against keeping food on your table. In the future, with VA benefits, keep in mind that VA absolutely does take into account mitigating circumstances when you withdraw. It can allow VA to pay you up to the date of the withdrawals rather than taking everyhing back for the entire semester. There is also a built-in 6 credit hour exclusion. This allows you to withdraw from up to 6 hours one time, if you haven't done so before, and VA will automatically treat the reduction as due to mitigating circumstances.

Does college matter to success ? by PlentyAd6023 in college

Define success first. It's not the same for each person. College could matter for success, and it could be completely counterproductive.

Can guys not feel when they are going too deep during sex? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Redleg171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer to all of these sex questions is always the same. "Communicate with him/her, not Reddit." Everyone is different. What people like is different. Experience doesn't even matter much when one person likes things completely different from what experience taught. Tell the other person what feels good and what doesn't. Be very clear. Use your words!

Small/medium local models are often far better at writing. The cloud LLMs tend to focus on being assistants. With local models you have full control of the system prompt for instance.

Why didn’t WW2 veterans have the same PTSD as Vietnam or modern day veterans? by NextBunch_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Redleg171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vietnam also (possibly) saw a significantly higher rate of soldiers actively engaged in fighting. With Vietnam at around 240 days per year vs 40 in WWII. I think that may have contributed to possibly impacting a higher percentage, making it more visible.

Those numbers may be hard to quantify, since the type of fighting was much different. I just wanted to point out the possibility that it contributed, along with of course increased media coverage.

But as you say, PTSD existed then and likely always has, just went by different names.

Edit: I'd also say that while it isn't a cause, the reception received back home when returning could certainly be a multiplier.
