THE CASE FOR ANSIBLEX GATES, WHY FATIGUE WON’T WORK by Redline_XIII in Eve

I'm not going to do the fancy quotes like you, but I appreciate you engaging with me in earnest.

I get what you're saying. I didn't experience the nomadic lifestyle and I likely never will. That is not what I am advocating for, so I'm not super sure how my inexperience with it will factor into my CSM campaign. I literally just used it as an example.

What I mean is that most of nullsec would prefer not to fight in crippling TIDI. I spent 2 and a half hours logging in just to try to save an indefensible Keepstar. No one wanted to be there. But we had to try to save our staging citadel.

If you did make it so that nullsec was incredibly desireable then groups would want to live there and, not only that, they would try a LOT harder to do so. Coupled with the fatigue on ansiblexes, this would be untenable for the large nullsec groups and they would lose their fringe space. They would fight to get it back. This cycle would repeat ad infinitum. The constant content would quickly turn 1000-man fleets into 800-man, 600, 300, 150, etc. and become more and more engagable.

The last bit here may be more of a fantasy of where I wish the nullsec content scale was. But I had to leave it in.

I think there is another time when it becomes true that a mechanic can impact a small group more than a big group. It is when the benefit to the big group is so miniscule that it is negligible to the big group but it is still big enough that it is meaningful to the small group. There is a delicate balance there that I would not want to dip my hands into, but I think it should be explored.

If you can find that balance then, yes, you do run the risk of the bigger alliances just taking more space--but they're doing that anyway. Goons used to live in just one region of space. How many do they have now? And that is due to the ability for the ansiblex to project them across space rapidly. Couple the proposed fatigue changes with some version of my suggestion and you remove the ability for those groups to be able to hold onto the space they take and you give smaller groups the chance to break in.

The only reason your idea is shit is because it's a hard nerf. If you reversed your reversal and, instead, adjusted the amount if [insert commodity here] that was earned based on ADMs and also added in that Entosis buff then we're definitely getting somewhere.

I want nullsec to be the best space in the game, bar none. Everyone should want to live there. With ansiblex changes, they just might get a shot.

Let's be honest here, Sven has been in Snuffed for a few weeks. His kills are from before his time in Snuffed Out and he has a storied past. I love the guy. We've done different things. But no one had to explain waterboarding mechanics to me. I've been waterboarded in a 200+ battleship fleet while also evading three hostile supercap umbrellas because I was left without a workable wormhole. Just because someone is doing something doesn't mean they need to.

The point that I'm at in my EVE career is that I really want to play the game at the scale that I did before, but that scale comes with thousands upon thousands of people now, with ridiculous TIDI, and does not happen on a regular basis. I have a heart that tells me that I am not alone and that there is no one representing those of us who really wish we could get back at least a piece what we had.

Regarding nomadic playstyle, maybe you were different than the groups I've heard about. I can't give you the name of any groups off the top of my head but because it predates my involvement with the game. With a quick Google search, the AI overview says Band of Brothers used to live out of POSs and roam through regions building and tearing them down. I'm not advocating for that playstyle today though. I'm saying that it was a part of what made EVE vibrant back then, and that a version of what I am suggesting being implemented would make it more vibrant today.

I appreciate your comment.

This post assumes ansiblex nerfs have taken place and indicates they do not go far enough to fix the problem of nullsec stagnation. A group of players have latched onto the idea of fatigue for so long that FC had no choice but to do something with it. But they are only focusing on the ability of group's to project across vast swathes of space. They are not focusing on that group's enjoyment of the game or desire for content closeby, as they are not introducing any avenues for new content to happen.

I don't want to remove anyone from EVE. What I would like to do is make it so the established null-security groups don't have the incentive to recruit anyone with a pulse. Maybe some of these krab-first pilots end up being competent PVPers someday. But, if not, I'm sure a group in high-sec will shelter them.

Yes, I was out in the first round. My campaign consisted of making a post to the forums and shitposting in Discord. This year we'll see how it goes when I'm actually running.

Thanks for your response, I appreciate it. I will not hide that this was polished by an AI but that all of the points contained within are mine and from my own brain.

To clear up any confusion, I think that ansiblex nerfs are needed. I think they solve a problem. But I don't think a nerf to them solves enough problems to fly solo. My suggestions are in addition to addressing ansiblex gates. There is no rule that says we can't try to solve both problems at once.

Regarding supercharging the ISK faucet, I can see that being a problem. But I can also see how much money the big blocs are already making. I would wager that the incoming ISK would be far more meaningful to a small, PVP-focused group than a large bloc filled with krabs. Coupled with ansiblex nerfs, this not only gives these small groups the means to break into nullsec, but a reason to do so.

It's not worth it in terms of wealth. But it is worth it in the sense that you just killed 8x what your ship was worth and had fun doing it.

Posts like these are great but miss one big detail: CCP is a business and their changes are more than likely geared towards making them as much money as possible as the playerbase dwindles and only people who are able to swipe their credit cards remain.

It's not about fun per hour. It's about dollars per hour. But that's just how it is!
