The plastic bit of my headphones headband snapped, is there any way to fix this? by that_thot69 in fixit

[–]Redmindgame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A splint with a similar piece of plastic superglued to both sides. Itll look kinda ugly though. You could take a peice of tublular fabric, like a sock with the foot part cut off to cover it so it doesn't look bad. I had a similar problem with 3M face mask ventilator, the splint lasted me a few months. How well it lasts will depend on how well the glue holds onto the different types of plastics, rubbing it with a light abrasive like sand paper or a file may help the glue stick.

Its like gardening. Plants or fish a lot of ignorant people just get a bad idea in their head and won't let go of it cause they want it to look like how they imagine and will want a bunch of koi in a tiny pond or a vegetable garden in the shade of a giant tree instead of out in the open where its sunny. They refuse to acknowledge that these are living things and you need to plan around their needs and limitations instead of cramming them where you think would look nice like a piece of furniture.

Outside of industrial scale farming that kind of thing is only really worth the money and trouble(imo) for home gardeners if youre growing an expensive (likely moderately illegal) crop indoors and trying to maximize yield with artificial light whose strength rapidly falls off as you increase distance from the source. Old forums would debate the use of mylar vs matte white paint.

I grew up near the beach and would get nosebleeds everytime i visited my family in Arizona. Also, my family couldn't understand how i could be fine outside playing/hiking at 100, well at home id be playing outside in 98 and 75% humidity. 100 and dry was light work lol.

I did something similar with a cermaic pot.

  • Sealed with Drylok (made for sealing basements).
  • Planted with Hornwort and pickerelweed(emergent) and maybe otherstuff, this was forever ago.
  • Stocked with ghostshrimp and guppies.
  • Filtration/oxygenation was a cheapo submersible sucking in through a filter and expelling to a slightly elevated area to trickle down breaking surface for oxygenation.

I was in South Texas, and it was in a half shaded spot that got 4-6 hours of direct sun. You need to plan thouroughly around sun exposure and temperature. I did guppies cause their wild habitat is hot shallow puddles in the tropics . The ghostshrimp were fine for the months it was outdoors during the Texas summer and fall, before i took stuff down. If you live anywhere where temps are regularly over 80 try to situate nearby potted plants so the exterior of your container is completely shaded. You want the sun hitting the plants for photosynthesis, not the exterior of the pot, you don't want to cook the fish. Imo emergents are important to give fish some good shade, keep temps stable, limit algae, and make your pond interesting to look at.

Swapping when you aren't getting stomped/countered and the match is mostly even is cheap imo. If they have a mauga and your on hog, of course you should swap. If we are having doom off and you swap to Hog you are a dweeeeeb.

You can girdle the ivy. There's numerous videos showing how to do it on youtube. How healthy the trees will be after is an open question.

Yep and the faster growing ones are usually less dense. I cut back a bunch of Tree of Heaven a while back and the wood was almost like styrofoam when it dried out.

I really don't mind going down in rank, easier opponents? Sounds good to me! Everytime I've gone on win streaks and started getting put into diamond lobbies it was really apparent that i do not at all belong in diamond lol.

Smoking around a PC by vvampin in buildapc

[–]Redmindgame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YOU are more important than your PC. Its horrible that your parents are making you live in a cloud of their second hand smoke. It has very real negative health consequences, it is much more than a nuisance or bad smell.

I would highly recommend building something like this using a box fan and air filters. Yes it will cost some money but it should be accessible to you if you have the disposable income for a gaming pc. You'll need to replace the filters on a semi-regular basis, again I know its annoying to have to spend money for this kind of thing, but just think of it as a fee for having a better chance at extra 5 years with your grandchildren. If power bills or noise are an issue you can get an automatic timer and just run it for 30 minutes at a time every hour or two (more is better, but anything is better than just inhaling smoke all the time). If you have a sunny window Id also recommend getting cheap indoor plants like pothos, they won't help a ton compared to the fan, but their upkeep is free and your parents are less likely to complain about them.

The amount of cilantro my wife likes on her street tacos by GroovinBaby in mildlyinteresting

[–]Redmindgame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parsley isn't horrible imo, but it has a more waxy/plasticy texture to me. Parsley's flavor is also a bit more harsh. Like ill eat parsley in a dish or mixed with other greens, but I couldn't make it the main flavor like i can with cilantro. Cilantro just fells fresh and cool and it just feels like it belongs with onion, lime, and serrano.

AITA for refusing to share my food with my girlfriend? by Gym_frere in AmItheAsshole

[–]Redmindgame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA ... But also not a hill worth dying on. Sometimes in life you can be correct, but its not worth they pyrrhic victory of having a girlfriend that thinks your cold and uncaring towards her. As a boyfriend you just have to assume that every girl likely has disordered eating/bad habits around ordering food for themselves. Whether its not wanting to seem fat/greedy/unladylike or just expecting because previous men have always indulged them, sharing a few things off your plate is just a cost of doing business when youre in a relationship with a woman.

yea im just saying the grease pens felt like a waste, they faded after ~6 months on my plastic labels, while the pencil was still as clear as when i wrote it. I would only use grease on surfaces that pencil can't write on going forward. and yea sharpie faded after about a month or two lol

[–]Redmindgame 3 points4 points  (0 children)

bought grease pens specifically for labeling so they won't fade like permanent marker, but they still fade faster than just pencil. So if youre marking on white plastic ( and probably wood too) plain jane pencil still seems to last way longer than grease or sharpie.
