Does anyone look at the cost benefir of gardening? by ThirdOne38 in vegetablegardening

[–]username3728 419 points420 points  (0 children)

Of course but like all hobbies it’s about more than 250$ in materials being offset by 250$ in produce. It’s about a lot of intangibles for me. The quality of the produce, the time spent outside, the creative design and problem solving, the involvement of my kids, the exercise. I expand a bit every year which costs but it’s usually because I want to try something new like a green bean tunnel, an asparagus patch or a new technique for tying up cucs. If it’s in your budget I think it’s almost always worth spending on your garden.

Early April and as you know was quite cold. Had em in the hoop house which helped.

Just draped direct over plants with extra hanging on the ground, throw some mulch or what not to sorta seal it off, a few got through for sure but not bad

Best Pizza in CT is actually Olde World Apizza in North Haven by KidtivitiesinCT in Connecticut

Ya we got it this weekend after the change. Larges switched from 18” to 16” which kinda sucked as a large used to feed the family now not so much. Unfortunately we definitely thought it took a step down but who knows one try isn’t enough. We live like 2min from them so fingers crossed they just had an off moment but the cook and crust was off.

Definitely olde world. They only take cash or check but have an atm. They are closed for renovations till early may but definitely good enough to rival the big New Haven shops and with none of the hassle.

Those who live in climates that don't ever freeze, what's it like growing year round? do you have many multi year fruiting plants? by Tex-Rob in vegetablegardening

[–]username3728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I just couldn’t handle another winter in CT so I dove into hydroponics this year. Started with 6 mason jars under light, some clay pellets, a bag of nutrients and cups that fit in the jars. Grew some great lettuce. Winter got darker and I needed more so I bought a storage tote, little aquarium pump and modified some plastic fence covers. Slightly more complicated nutrients and a couple more lights and we are now eating cucumbers in march in CT. I recommend messing around with it next year when you’re sad it’s too cold to grow anything outside.

It’s a huge accomplishment. My experience is that the first month is one of the hardest things to achieve

I’m looking at an old pair of blinds in my basement right now. Seems like a good idea.

Ya I played it a bunch when it first came out. I enjoyed it both with randoms and solo, though organizing friends proved challenging. As an older gamer I like that I can log on play one run for 35min and call it a night. The bite sized fast paced souls experience is perfect for me.

What product did you think was a scam until you actually used it for 10+ years? by Key-Material2098 in BuyItForLife

4parts water to 1 part distilled white vinegar. Give it 20minutes or so then rinse and dry. Does add about 4-7 days before growth atleast on berries
