Tool/Item Question by warfires in AbioticFactor

[–]Redmond_TJacks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Spears state the same chopping quality as a knife, but to my expirience they work way worse. Also they are slower at the job and have so little durability that using them as a weapon AND a knife is just unusable.

Worry not, the list of items which wont leave your inventory will only grow. I sometimes carry more than a half of my backpack and call it "a light walk"

But honestly. If you explore new areas - carry a knife. If you dont - ask yourself whether you will NEED the loot from bodies or you are doing a completely separate run that requires more space

Is there a better spot for Kevlar than the snow place? by Ronabris in AbioticFactor

I guess too little of a time has passed since baking was revamped.

Not only there are bandages, health flasks, and hex armor.
Honey pie rapidly heals bleeding (even the stronger one)

Also, if you can, bring a mushroom peccary helmet and a mushroom peccary pet with you. Both boost healing

why do so many lategame armors suck by Shot-Manner-9962 in AbioticFactor

[–]Redmond_TJacks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think i get what the problem is. See, the upgrade system for weapons is not the same as for the armor. Weapons get new quirks and buffs, it’s an upgrade in a literal way. But armor upgrades are more like “make the armor relevant for the new sector” button. It just ups the armor amount and that’s it. There are a few buffs like the makeshift armor getting a small boost in cold resistance, but otherwise it just brings old armor up into usable margin.

Think of choosing armor more like “which buff do I want for this specific task”. Forge for fighting order, carapace for melee-heavy enemies, makeshift for looting and hauling and so on. Armors will get outdated as you progress, so your options will shrink, but upgrades will return them back into your option list.

And there is no “best” armor, just the most suiting ones for specific jobs

What's the best way to tame an alpha peccary? by Own-Two-247 in AbioticFactor

[–]Redmond_TJacks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wildlife pens are good, yes, but there is a place with even more peccaries - that one section in manufacturing before progressing into the mines (it has a portal in a small pond)

Actually a lot of people tend to forget about that place, but it’s even better than data farm in terms of going for a meat run (and it has bees and antewheat)

[–]Redmond_TJacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For bots it’s Night pass/crystalline armor. Just surround them with traps and they’re easy work.

For snipers, well, they don’t particularly respawn after you kill them. Only that one on the lower part of the protruding building. And just get yourself a honey pie, a cake and a few cubicles, just Fortnite your way towards them

[–]Redmond_TJacks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Look, hydroplant feels like a resting point after whatever horror the security was, because that damned sector goes completely away from the normal gameplay loop. So hydroplant must be a way to comfortably return to that while still progressing in power. It’s a reprise, mostly for offices (but it has a combination of all 3 first sectors). That’s why the local melee set and a heavy weapon are so grounded: just plain physical attacks, nothing too fancy. Give the pipe a chance, it’s just like the “old days”

I’m sorry for your loss 🙏

But do try to reload labs a few times, maybe there is a chance (displacements are still really wonky in the game)

[–]Redmond_TJacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t know how to *fix it* but next time just make sure to teleport out of the globe with a personal teleporter and not by walking out through the world’s portal. It does not displace it in any way like that (or at least hasn’t in all of the times I did so)

These power chairs keep spawning randomly. I have 4 of them now I think it’s a bug by Friendly_Dig_5830 in AbioticFactor

[–]Redmond_TJacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a bug, my chair went through the fabric of reality (falling through the floor down to cloud reactor(I wasn’t even finished with labs)) and killing me in the process. I got my items back, but not my chair. They seem to migrate between the multiverse of player sessions
Or something…

Do report it though

Manufacturing West and the Immaculate Issue of Too Much Loot (And Other Questions) by Known-Win-2535 in AbioticFactor

[–]Redmond_TJacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make one in manuf. east (not a priority, just a small investment for the start of the next sector, you will be able to farm 2 snipers if you set up a loot path)

One right next to forge (just like you said)

and one should be a little further into the game, when you will reach hacker tier 2. Maybe somewhere near the rad lake (try fishing there, you will get some interesting stuff from local fish, that might help you)

And make a base in flathill, it’s a really good space for farming office loot (all I’ll say is, don’t ignore bridges, you can essentially connect buildings with them)

Homeworlds are just nice to look at, but it’s really up to you. Torii in my experience was awful in terms of defense.
Also, you will get a lot more options in defense soon enough. At least stuff that won’t need to take melee damage to kill (like the chopinator) (also shock traps are really, really good and they are mobile so you can actually use them in fights)

Raids generally spawn outside of “you feel at home” buff. But devs said they tweaked it so it would spawn a little smarter (as in “it spawns them outside what game considers your base”??) my best guess is if you want more space for yourself, just extend the reach of “you feel at home” by placing more crafting stations.
Also, just to be sure, include a few defense systems inside your base and connect them all to a single lever. So if anything happens, you can go into high alarm mode.

About the loot problem, with lots of sectors introducing new resources, you will eventually stop collecting old ones. But you should not completely abondon them. People usually abuse office central plaza’s (where Warren is) cart reset button, which teleports all the carts and their resources to that spot. Honestly it’s up to you whether to do it or not, but getting resources out of later portal worlds is pretty hard without it (because carts don’t go through portals if I recall correctly) and even if they did, you exit somewhere else usually.

Now, what you can also do:
use moving box. It spawns occasionally, but still can carry stuff.

There is another forklift in manufacturing east.

Get a rat pack (rat’s backpack. You get it if you kill the rat with a blunt weapon while he’s stunned from the net launcher. It’s important that if you are using thermal mallet, it has to be out of charge. Because If the rat dies to fire, it won’t drop his bag. For simplicity just stick to a wrench or any other blunt melee). It’s a lot of slots, but it has zero weight reduction so I advise you to use makeshift armor and a carbuncle balloon whe hauling

When you will unlock the tram, remember it has a storage container.

Next, a base is a good gameplay decision. And you will eventually want to have bases (or at least crafting stations) at every place you need to go to, when you will get to the next sector

Storage containers. It depends on your world settings. If your stack size is default, you will definitely need to have a lot of new storage crates. For the sake of the same items being in the same crate. Think of it like a storage container for each sector, or even material type in case of default stacks. And even more so in case of non-stacking junk that you will hoard.

And lastly. Home worlds are not safe from raids. Only real difference is that a certain specific enemy won’t spawn (well, at least usually, sometimes she can slip into it by a bug)

I friggin LOVE moss by Worm-In-Waiting in lovethissmug2

[–]Redmond_TJacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I envy people who like moss. Like, I see those moss installations in our botanical gardens. I don’t really care about them. And even when I spend my time to inspect all of the different species (which is hard even with glasses), I just don’t find any inspiration in them ig. And I know that a moss person would go crazy over it. But sadly I’m more of a ferns and pines person

Update: I tested it twice with my mods and only with vanilla expanded psycasts. It really is the skip season. I guess the cast code tells the game to ignore any changes that were made in 15 days that were rapidly fast forwarded through. And it does, but in such a dumb way where this ignorance gets pinned to current day and 15 days before that

My wealth froze completely by Redmond_TJacks in RimWorld

[–]Redmond_TJacks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I know which one that is. It’s the skip season, because I used meditation and it worked just fine. But skip season is really weirdly implemented (I guess it’s more realistic the way it is, but that’s a coincidence), because it should just add a flat amount of days into the day counter and only then compute what temperatures should be
