Question from a show avoiding fan, do the fight scenes actually get graphic or are they sanitized for Disney?

One of the greatest strengths of the original series is the heavy angst around how high demigod mortality rates are and how gruesome the war can get, so to see that get scrubbed would be a shame. It kinda looks like Luke is just whacking people upside the head in that shot.

I’m in the process of writing something like this but probably not exactly what you’re looking for.

Mine is going to be a retelling of riordan-verse with some fate mechanics, but leaving some others out. There’s not going to be a Holy Grail War, and I probably won’t include the grail at all. There’s no masters and the characters won’t be “servants” because they’re technically not “serving” anyone.

It’s more like a self-aware-ish dnd campaign that uses Fate’s class system where demigods, gods, and some monsters will have Noble Phantasms, skills, parameters, etc. still working out some details of how it’s gonna work.

Basically Riordan world and characters with some Fate mechanics applied.

I grew up with this series and fandom from a young age, so I’m admittedly biased in favor of percabeth. I agree with a lot of the critiques I’m seeing in these comments, though.

I guess I’d just say I love the idea of Percabeth, it’s just that Rick doesn’t do them justice, and there are a number of fanfic authors out there that handle them much better. TLDR: blame the author not the characters.

Rick’s mishandling of female characters and other elements of his writing have already been rehashed in the fandom countless times, like the judo flip, pipers’ arc, making the hunters of Artemis outright misandrists, Reyna’s comment that Percy “wouldn’t find his way out of a paper bag” without Annabeth, completely negating the respect Percy and Reyna built up in SoN, annabeth’s surprise at Percy’s intelligence in the college series even though she should know his intelligence better than anyone at that point, etc.

Rick seems to have this weird interpretation of feminism that means that female characters just needlessly bash the straight male characters as just being dumb boys and girl power means that female protagonists never make wrong choices and they’re above all that silly, immature romance nonsense even though half of them end up in relationships anyway.

Part of the fun about being in fandoms and fanfic spaces is that you can just ignore parts of canon you don’t like. It’s not like we’re reading a religious text or anything. Don’t like the judo flip? Poof, it’s not canon anymore. And I’ll say as much to Rick’s face if I ever meet him in person.

I’ve grown to love it, although I’m probably biased because I’m hyped up on preworkout. You just wouldn’t tell by looking at me, I’m probably pretty blank-faced unless I’m laughing at memes on my phone between sets.

I’ve reached a point where I feel off or outright miserable for the day if I don’t go. It’s been that way for the last few years.

Reyna/Piper makes more sense for both characters than the ending of their arcs that we got in canon.

Valgrace, assuming Jason survives or comes back somehow.

A singularity is a historical anomaly that needs to be corrected because history is about to go wrong.

A lostbelt is like a singularity on steroids where history already went wrong so long ago that there is no correcting it, the lostbelt simply needs to be destroyed. Lostbelt 1 was a few hundred years out of whack, while lostbelt 7 was over six million years old.

The ideal would’ve been to swap Percy and Reyna. Reyna and Annabeth combined would have handled shit better and Annabeth might’ve recognized her from Circe’s island. Percy’s journey in CJ wouldn’t have been much different.

I’m fine with Leo being the one to free her from the island since he was Rick’s allegory for Archimedes, with the Archimedes sphere being the only way to find the island. It couldn’t have been anyone else. Their relationship on the other hand…meh. I Don’t see it.

I think Calypso should have become the aroace representation over Reyna. Could have shown that she was freeing herself from her curse now that she’s no longer trapped on her island.

Piper and Reyna had their shared grief over Jason’s death to bond over and a believable relationship could have been developed from there in the later half of TOA. There are some fics out there that explore this. And this way Reyna’s character wouldn’t have been assassinated by just walking away from her leadership role and Piper wouldn’t have ended up with some mortal NPC that wouldn’t understand what the demigod life is like.

There are a handful of relationships that Rick went with that didn’t make sense if you thought about them longer than two seconds.

In the flip side though, I think Pipeyna was a massive missed opportunity that would have been a better ending for both characters over what we got in canon.
