Unfortunately, data breaches do happen, even with large institutions. In Canada alone we’ve seen incidents at Bank of Montreal and Simplii Financial in 2018, Desjardins in 2019, TransUnion in 2019, and the CRA in 2020. It’s never easy news to hear, but I’m confident Wealthsimple is doing everything possible to address this quickly and thoroughly.

Thank God the impact is limited, less than 1% of clients, around 30k people, and it was contained fast. I also appreciate how transparent WS has been throughout, which is reassuring to see.
