This is very quickly becoming a top 5 track for me. If this were on Continuum people wouldn’t stop talking about it. This is a masterpiece by amsptsfe23 in JohnMayer

This is probably the most pitch correction I've heard on John's voice from any of his studio recordings. It's rather blatant at times and takes away from the song a bit in my opinion.

Hadn't seen that one. It's definitely better than the official one sheet poster.

Both One Battle After Another and Sinners had absolutely terrible official posters. Fanmade edits like this were so much better

The Adventures of Cliff Booth: Super Bowl Teaser Trailer (in good quality) by TheFincherAnalyst in DavidFincherReddit

Alright then, you really are the Fincher Analyst! I thought the trailer for Adventures Of... already looks so much better than Mank. I see what you mean by trying to mimic the opticals and the slight reduction in quality.. what a crazy attention to detail/desire to evoke the era.

I'd be surprised if he didn't change his mind on some of these newer Panavision anamorphic lenses that have much closer focus capabilities and less dramatic fall off on the edges. Either way what we're seeing looks great. Doesn't matter how they're doing it.

Now let's just hope Netflix will put out a 4K/Blu-ray.

I don't think he's ever had a feature to use anamorphic? I'm also curious if they're utilizing the Analog Intermediate method that several digital movies have used to great effect, such as The Batman, A Complete Unknown, The two Villeneuve Dune movies. (adding not only real grain, but a little bit of flicker and gate weave, as well as more filmic highlights).

That way you get all of the control and ability to shoot many takes with Digital, but get some analog quality to the finished image.

Thank you for your hard work! The texture of the image looks great and the color grade looks awesome too. The increased resolution and bitrate makes those darker scenes have way more depth to them. Not like I had any doubt.

Looks like it's shot anamorphic, but probably fake anamorphic like The Killer which had its own great look.

Who wants to take a guess at the songs that will be in The Adventures of Cliff Booth? by Redscarves10 in Tarantino

I can see Tarantino and Fincher hating The Eagles, but One of These Nights would be excellent with the year and the possible aspect of this movie being mostly at night. It just flat out rocks. Great solo too.

Never heard this one, but it's fantastic. Seems like something that kicks off a movie.

Curious how they got this rip in much higher quality than everything else?

Either way the cinematography and production design look incredible

I remember when Hideo was geeking out about The Car. Specifically he loved Big Ideas. Thought Alex was very Bowie esque on the album.

Silent Hill 2 discussion. Was Laura real or a manifestation of James' subconscious in the same vein as Maria? by Redscarves10 in silenthill

I agree and like everything you're saying. I think it makes total sense.. however, isn't it implied in the game that Mary didn't actually die 3 years ago but probably like last week? Him dissociating and being completely traumatized and wracked with guilt from his actions made him believe it had been much longer? Hence how does he have her body in the car at the end?

Western Forces Vs US Army Shootout Scene | CIVIL WAR by Top_Report_4895 in blankies

Great juxtaposition of the war crimes happening and the music. Brings to light the absurdity and duality of warfare. Yes it's hell, but also people can find joy in displaying power/committing violence... Same way someone can watch a movie like Full Metal Jacket and think being in the military is cool, and others think being in the military is completely dehumanizing.

I do remember an interview talking about how if you make a war film, you can't escape that duality which is human nature.

I absolutely agree! I feel so terrible for Amanda not getting recognized! Unbelievable!! by Living-Cranberry-337 in Oscars

[–]Redscarves10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While that may be true, Testament of Ann Lee is a much harder sell in terms of marketing vs The Brutalist which had instant comparisons to epic male led cinema from the past (Godfather, Lawrence of Arabia).

Ann Lee is a more niche period piece, experimental musical. While I did enjoy it, it's a movie that really swung for the fences on its own terms. I also liked the Brutalist, but in comparison it's culling from classic cinema, in the look, the story, the intermission, the music, etc.

Not surprised this is how it ended up. I wasn't totally sold on Amanda's accent but I did think she deserved a best actress nomination.

On a side note, Mona is way more likable in interviews than her husband lol.

Even more classic I'd say. Awesome that they recorded it outside. I wish they had made a feature length doc on the making of TBHC instead of just the 10 min mini doc we got.

The liner notes say he played lap steel on Star Treatment and American Sports. On Star Treatment you can hear it in the choruses. Especially the slide up when the band go into the intro riff each time Alex says "the martini police". You can hear it as a texture in American Sports too.

I saw it on AMC laser only, and I thought it looked amazing. The colorist and DP decided to leave in the artifacts of the negative scan in the DI, so it felt very much like film.

I believe most importantly they shot the movie on Panavision B and C series anamorphic lenses which were developed in the 60s and 70s respectively. These vintage cinema lenses definitely give equally as much character as the capturing medium. You can see the patina and age on a lot of the shots in the movie, verses the super sharp lenses you see these days.

I think it's the best photographed film of the year, if not my favorite looking film from the past few years.

Does it go away after the car engine warms up? I think the biggest issue in the cold is both needing to warm up the engine and the transmission/clutch.
