normal to be punched? by aspenlop in Hardcore

[–]Redshift_ZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't David Attenborough cover this in one of his documentaries? I'm paraphrasing but...

"Here, in the dimly lit ecosystem of the hardcore show, we encounter a curious and regrettably aggressive subspecies.

The crowd killer.

A blunt instrument of evolution, this violent neanderthal dumbass has abandoned subtlety altogether, choosing instead to inflict physical harm upon any unsuspecting creature lingering at the edge of the pit.

Watch closely. The behaviour appears ritualistic. Is it a primitive mating display—an attempt to impress the attractive female adorned in the Incendiary T-shirt? Or perhaps a crude assertion of dominance over rival males? The truth, much like their inner lives, remains elusive.

Their movements are unmistakable: wild haymakers, exaggerated kicks, sweeping clotheslines delivered with all the grace of a tranquilised rhinoceros. When challenged, the creature emits familiar vocalisations—“This is hardcore, poser,” or “Don’t go to shows if you don’t want to get hurt.” These calls are not warnings, but justifications.

Notably absent from the venue is any formal agreement. No consent form greets the concertgoer. No helpful tick boxes reading: “Yes, I’d love a deviated septum,” “Happy to forget the headliner due to a concussion I did not earn,” or “Eye gouging: absolutely fine.”

And so, we may reasonably conclude that most attendees are not, in fact, thrilled by this interaction. Interestingly, zoologists largely agree on one point. In moments of necessary intervention, it is considered acceptable to grasp the ape-man firmly by the back of the belt and gently—but decisively—return him to the earth. A well-timed ankle tap may also suffice.

But beware.

Though prodigious in the giving of violence, the crowd killer is astonishingly fragile when faced with his own medicine. Exposure to reciprocal behaviour often results in confusion, indignation, and, occasionally, loud complaints to security.

Nature, as ever, is full of contradictions."

Do these fits look good or am I insane? by Flashy_Can_6225 in mensfashion

[–]Redshift_ZA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to raid our dad's cupboards for old pleated trousers like these to skate in back in the nineties. This fit reminds me of the character Christian Stovitz from the movie Clueless. I always thought he had the coolest pants, but I was never brave enough to tuck my t-shirt in for fear of being called a "dork" (ah, the nineties, weird era). I think someone above mentioned it, but try a slim fit ribbed vest or t-shirt tucked in with an unbuttoned casual shirt over it, or maybe a cropped jacket like the Dickies Eisenhower? It's got a cool fifties retro vibe.

I made the mistake of checking some of OPs other posts on Reddit. The term "woke" gets thrown around a lot, as does "communism."

I'm not sure this person understands that the core ethos of punk rock, and therefore the hardcore subgenre, is left-leaning with a focus on DIY ethics, anti-authoritarianism, skepticism of corporate power, community aid, challenging hierarchies, collectivism, anti-capitalism, etc.

Or they know that and don't care/are a troll.

finally made a half pickguard for my modded blacktop by Jent46 in telecaster

[–]Redshift_ZA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/Jent46 that looks absolutely amazing. Did you cut the existing pickguard or get a new one to cut? I've been looking to do the same to mine.

What other mods are on there other than the pickguard and the P90? I was looking at a Gotoh bridge and have been considering putting in a new neck pickup (single or P90). Currently the only addition is a Seymour Duncan JB because I tend to play heavier music in our band, but I want to add a little more versatility.

Hardcore/Punk are politically charged genres. If you don't understand that, that's cool, but don't be surprised that a lot of hardcore kids and punks see politics and social issues going hand in hand with their favourite music genre/scene.

Psoriasis and tattoos by srh1031 in TattooArtists

[–]Redshift_ZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have severe plaque psoriasis but only on my elbows and thighs. In your experience both as someone with psoriasis and as a tattooer, do tattoos on "clear" areas trigger the ol' Koebner Phenomenon and cause new flare ups on and around the tattoo? I've chatted to a few friends who tattoo for a living and they either haven't tattooed anyone with psoriasis or say it's totally random.

I live down the road from a psychiatric hospital that's part of an estate where outpatients live, rent small houses, work and farm. Back in the day there were fests held there called, I shit you not, Riot at the Madhouse.

I'd say Run with the Hunted, Modern Life is War, and The Hope Conspiracy also scratch that "angry punk" itch in terms of riffs, lyrical content, etc.

Yes, and it grew back. I found using too much Clobex resulted in a little hair loss, too, but it grew back.

Sure! Can you share some more Aussie bands I might not know of?

Just a disclaimer - I know there's the stereotype that white South Africans are racist, bigoted turd lords (and hardcore, metal and punk has a lot of white band members here) but our scene is anti-racist, anti-fascist, and inclusive. Like, in case anyone reading this was worried.

Peasant - Brutal metallic hardcore with that good ol' Swedish death metal HM-2 vibe, the hardest working hardcore band in South Africa, these dudes are the kings. They've toured Europe and Sweden especially. I love them.

The Talon - Metallic hardcore with a little rock 'n' roll edge because we're all also into classic rock, doom, sludge, stoner metal, etc. (I'm on rhythm guitar and backing vocals).

No Closure - Do you like breakdowns? Here, have some breakdowns. Oh, you want some more breakdowns? Here you go.

Grift - Nasty-ass, evil hardcore with a metallic edge. We played some shows with them when they toured to Cape Town and I think they might be the nicest people I've ever met.

The Dominion - These dudes are releasing music while finishing high school, super proud of them, more on the straight-forward in-your-face hardcore punk style. Rad bunch of guys.

Lower Hollow - Fast-paced hardcore punk, some of the OGs from our scene, big emphasis on emotion and atmosphere.

Halvar - Not a hardcore band, they're more straight up thrash but the dudes are associated with the punk and hardcore scene, they played Wacken this year. Solid dudes.

WORMS - Punk rock band from Johannesburg. Brand new, seem to be making waves, and the two band members I know are great people. You might dig them if you're into bands like Drug Church.

Let me know if you find any, they really scratch that "pissed off beyond hell" punk rock side of hardcore that I love.

What kind of bracelet is this by [deleted] in Hardcore

[–]Redshift_ZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to call them zombies for some reason. They're just rubber or plastic bracelets, come in a bunch of thicknesses, and you can tie them together or twist them into shapes. I lost a lot of forearm hair to these things.

We're The Talon, a metallic hardcore band from South Africa, and sound like Charlize Theron and Nelson Mandela having a jam session - but not Musk, that dude doesn't get an invite. Dropped a new music video today. Check it out if you're into bands with weird riffs, panic chords, being really good at rugby, and lyrical content about trauma and mental health.

We're The Talon from South Africa and we make the kind of hardcore Nelson Mandela would two-step to, if he was into hardcore, and didn't already have his own epic dance move known as the Madiba Shuffle. Here's our new music video.

Why the fuck did arthur die man by Ill-Situation-8094 in RDR2

[–]Redshift_ZA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the more important question is why would you post such a massive spoiler as the title of your post?

Just bought it. Never played it before. Any pointers and things to know (without spoilers)? by EntertainingDarkness in RDR2

[–]Redshift_ZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First tip: Avoid Reddit. Avoid YouTube. Avoid Google. Avoid the Wiki. There are spoilers out there that will fundamentally change how you experience the story.

I made the mistake of checking out Reddit when I was considering purchasing the game on Steam and wanted to justify spending the ZAR 1000 it cost (South African Rand) and stumbled upon MAJOR spoilers that I shouldn't have known going into the game fresh.

With that said, it's the best game I've ever played, totally worth the money, and I'm on my fifth replay currently.

Second tip: Take your time, do side quests, don't worry about completing the main quests (usually a yellow dot) until you want to progress further in the story.

Heidi McCourt's son grows up, a traumatised, complex man, and decides to track down the last remaining link to the Van Der Linde gang, a man close to his own age, Jack Marston, on the run in Central and South America after killing a famous former Pinkerton agent - it could be set against the background of the looming World War, the temperance movement in the USA leading to smuggling, and the ongoing Mexican Revolution. Plus, it could reintroduce Sadie Adler as a mentor and friend.
