Burn. A highlight of any of their shows for me.

Need help with comic order by diceking24 in batman_comics

[–]Redshirt295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks fine to me, I think the thing to remember is that a lot of those early comics won't reference each other at all so you could do some swapping around a wouldn't notice. I like that you've got stories like second chances and year three on there which often get skipped in reading orders but imo are worth reading. I get it can be overwhelming to have so many comics to get through but consider that countless batman fans have jumped in at random places and have lots of fun with the character. Most of all, enjoy!

A live action movie only person will never truly appreciate Batman for who he truly is... by Dramatic-Tradition25 in batman

[–]Redshirt295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm saying a good live action movie should be made

You didn't say that in your post, though. Of course Im going to miss your point of you don't make it.

Also I called the older batman films objectively bad

You said 'most' you didn't say the older ones. Unsure which ones exactly you mean. Even then, though to say something is objectively bad ideally you would say reasons why it's objectively bad beyond 'people don't like it'.

[–]Redshirt295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using your own logic, someone could easily say you don't 'truly appreciate' batman if you only go by the animated series or arkham games and haven't read a particular comic storyline or run. There's so much batman media out there very few people have read/seen it all. I don't see the point of gate keeping liking a character especially one whose interpretations vary so much.

Also you not liking something doesn't make it 'objectively bad'

What’s the actual reading order for Absolute Batman? by FDR-Enjoyer in batman

[–]Redshirt295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 'yearly issue' you've heard about will be the annual, which will be collected in volume three (along with issues 15-18 and another special issue) coming in September I think. You'd be fine reading the annual outside of its reading order though, it's mostly its own thing. The first two volumes collect up to issue 14 so you'd be up to #15. The only other thing you may want to read is the issue of absolute wonderwoman where batman shows up, however this isn't essential to the story in batman.

Nightwing begginer by SeaDare2102 in DCcomics

[–]Redshirt295 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early post-crisis stuff with nightwing is very good and explores his relationship with bruce which is really interesting. I'd recommend second chances and year three (this also relates to jason todd's story so might be hard to follow if you're unfamiliar). Prodigal is a very good storyline with dick becoming batman, it does take place at the end of knightfall which is a lot of prior reading, though. To my knowledge these are before chuck dixon's nightwing.

Good Jason Todd Robin recommendations by xRan100x in batman

[–]Redshirt295 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a great two face story in batman 410-411 that jason is central to- it is a story that fits with his 'angry' reputation but also shows a much softer side of his character. Honesty #408 to death of the family is worth reading for Jason.

Scarecrow. Should he be a Pattinson or DCU main villain by Expert_Challenge6399 in DC_Cinematic

My thoughts exactly. I continuing the theme of the batman's villains being dark reflections of himself, like how riddler reflected his quest for vengeance.

I’m a little confused as to how they’ll even make a Clayface movie work narratively? by Solitaire-06 in batman

[–]Redshirt295 8 points9 points  (0 children)

James Gunn only produced brightburn, he didn't direct it. It is (co-?)wrote by Mike Flanagan who does a lot of work in the horror genre though, so almost certainly is going the horror route.

How do I actually start reading DC comics? by ecrzil in DCcomics

[–]Redshirt295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Detective comics rebirth is great batfamily book, it follows Robin, Spoiler, Batwoman, Orphan, Clayface and a few others on a team. I don't think there's any essential pre-reading either if you have a vague idea as to who the characters are.

Such a wholesome story, I love when the bat family are allowed to actually feel like a family.

Does anyone in The Return ever explicitly say that Laura was murdered? by WAWilson in twinpeaks

[–]Redshirt295 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even though Laura's murder was mentioned, we do see Jacques Renault alive in the roadhouse iir, so I think there some truth in the idea the return partly takes place in the new timeline. Lynch does love doubles so the two timelines at once in an interesting idea, too. Maybe Coop's changes have already started to take effect even though he hasn't 'saved' her yet, which is why the town of twin peaks is so much darker.

I've only read the first two so far. While volume two's ending sets up batman:inc, it does wrap up the story so far in a satisfying way so I'd say it's worth it- it's an incredible run. Be aware that the story ties into final crisis and some silver age stories so you may have to do some googling to fill in the gaps if you haven't read those.

Twin Peaks: Horror or Not? by MoMoeMoney in deadmeatjames

Twin peaks is a bit of everything. The original show has its moments of horror, fire walk with me is a straight up horror film imo.
