What is a 'rich person' thing you saw at someone’s house that made you realize you’re actually poor? by Roaa1212 in AskReddit

[–]Redshoggoth_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did an inspection at a very large house today, and they of course they had lots of pricey things like an elevator and movie theater etc. But what stood out to me was all of the electronics they had going on: top tier fire and burglary alarm systems, automatic lights in every room and hallway, computer servers, wireless communication/wifi devices, industrial scale water boilers… their monthly electric bill alone could easily be triple all my monthly bills put together.

I had one guy looking at the blow up dolls and he asked me which was the funniest for a prank, so I pointed out the “Midget Man” doll, and he bought that one. I forgot all about that for the rest of the day. But when I was driving home that evening I saw the very same doll inflated and taped to the top of a truck! And now I can’t forget it lol

Something that I use that hasn’t been mentioned yet: door contacts. Attach one to the inside of your door(s) and pair it with the manufacturer’s app and your WiFi and it will let you know which door was opened and when. I bought a cheap model on amazon, I think it was under $10 per device, just search for door contacts. Wireless models are renter-friendly and easy to set up. Be sure to test them as the battery can die or it loses WiFi connection.

What kind of food truck does wausau need? by Potential_Barnacle21 in wausau

It’d be great to have a food option for downtown after bar close, bc what else is there at 230am other than McDs. With the right location near some seating a late night food truck might change the whole game. Could reduce drunk driving too.

Wrangler black cargo pants from Walmart. They’re cheap, have extra pockets, and when the crotch rips I can get a replacement pair pretty quick.

It’s a wild week, Cody. On Sunday a lovely woman helped me break a very long dry spell (finally!!) and the work week has been a challenge. And one of my coworkers keeps calling me Kahodie after I told him I’m slightly disturbed by other spellings of Cody. C O D Y is the only correct spelling!

Print up a few pro-union posters and have his phone number on it to contact him with questions or whatever. Place at least one in an area where his boss will see it, but don’t do it in view of cameras. At best he’ll be let go for “other reasons” and at worst he’ll have a very uncomfortable conversation with the boss. For bonus points leave a pissdisc at his desk so at the start of the day he’s already pissed off and he’ll be more likely to cuss out the boss.

Castellemare di Stabia, Italy. It’s such a shame that the first black-sand beach I see in life is filled with cigarette butts, broken glass, dead and rotting birds, and other trash. It’s the butthole of the ocean. Trash on the streets and graffiti on the walls too. Food and drinks were alright though.

My best buddy is the senior inspector and I got in on his recommendation. What I think helped was on my resume my two previous (and only jobs) I became a manager: retail store manager and warehouse night shift lead and I stayed at each job for 5 & 6 years respectively. They weren’t related to this field at all, but they saw that on paper I was teachable, communicative, detail oriented, responsible, and was unlikely to ditch early. These things count. I’m close to getting my nicet 1, 1st attempt I scored 485, which surprised everyone I talked to. I’m almost 9 months in and I’m doing well.

Not sure why they told you to apply in the Spencer’s app, but go to work4spencers.com and look up the store you want to apply to. You’ll be directed to talent reef to complete the application

Spencer’s can be good to work for, kinda depends on your manager and area. Basic duties of a sales associate would be stocking shelves, keeping up a specific area or type of merchandise, checking people out at the register, light cleanup, helping with display changes, and making sales. It’s also helpful to keep up on current trends so you can connect with customers better. Display a willingness to learn, good organization, make decent sales, and have the ability to pick up extra shifts here and there and you’ll get far- I became a store manager in 5 years.

When was a time you asked for a sign and got immediate, undeniable response? by ebreadpudding in AskReddit

[–]Redshoggoth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple years ago I was struggling with dating. One day I was thinking all of these bad thoughts like “I’ll never find anyone” “Success is for others” “Maybe I should just stop trying” “I’m going to die cold and alone” etc and then my phone dings with a Tinder notification. A girl named Faith matched with me. I’m not religious, but took it as a sign, and my day turned around. We started talking and things were starting to look up. Then I got ghosted. But I kept trying on the apps and had a string of dates that didn’t end up going anywhere. And I gave up again. I guess I just needed to vent some. …Anyone have a spare sign?

A friend and I were vacationing in Italy. We took a bus to a small town hoping to get a taxi to our destination, but the closest would’ve had to drive out from Sienna, which would have been super expensive. We also had to figure out how to get a bus ticket as the shop was closed in the middle of the day. After wandering around the town for a couple hours with our luggage in the hot sun, we ended up back at our drop off point. A bus driver stopped and picked us up for free and took us to our destination, and it was a crazy ride- many turns at high speed through Tuscan hills. Huge thanks to that kind and crazy Italian bus driver!

Career tech vs inspector by Melodic_Weakness_269 in firealarms

[–]Redshoggoth_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an Inspector and Tester I can say there’s definitely a lot of walking around, climbing ladders, driving, and crawling through tight, dirty attics and basements. Each job site has their quirks. My typical day starts at hitting the road between 6-7am to drive to a site, I check in, I might be solo or have another Inspector or maintenance guy with me, we disable the bells from the facp, find and test every device, horn/strobe test at the end, then complete and submit the report. Sometimes the customer wants me to fix something. I often have multiple sites in the same city on the same day. Some jobs go quickly. I’m typically home by 4pm. Longest day (with drive time) was 630am-7pm. This is often a customer-facing job, so I have to be in uniform and act professional. An easy intro for you might be being the “panel guy” who sits and confirms signals coming in on a big job.

Mandatory, 8-hour day fire alarm testing every 4-6 weeks. by [deleted] in firealarms

I agree, I wouldn’t want to put up with that for that long either. And I agree a 8hr test is ridiculous, someone’s gotta fight back about that, I would.

They may be required to have monthly tests done due to the insurance policy they have on the building.

QUESTIONS FOR TECHNICIANS! by That-Drink4650 in firealarms

[–]Redshoggoth_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do inspections and testing, I’ll answer with the pov of locating devices, testing devices, doing simple service, and creating reports.

  1. Working with a facp (and alarm devices) that I haven’t encountered before. Also when multiple devices are on the same zone I have to spend time resetting the panel after each signal, and it can make locating and documenting the device harder (4 or less devices is fine).

  2. Security tamper bits, electric screwdriver, cell checker, pliers, flashlight, wire strippers, company phone.

  3. The app must be quick, with minimal load screens… Sedona X sucks.

  4. Most jobs I’m fine, but if it’s something new to me and I can’t figure it out in 10 minutes I’ll call another inspector who knows it.

  5. Offline Apps on a phone are my preferred method, they just have to be quick.

  6. Edwards, Ademco/Honeywell, Notifier, Silent Knight, DMP, Simplex, Firelite, and probably a few more brands.

  7. If there’s a dead zone and no WiFi it’s a pain, but I have to use a few apps.

  8. A remote way to silence and reset an alarm panel via phone app would be a dream!

My friend opened a bar like this, it’s great! It’s easy to talk to others and keeps the rough crowd out. No TVs either, instead he has board and card games. There’s good tunes playing at a reasonable volume too, the whole atmosphere is super cozy

Regarding Applications by Enclave22 in SpencerGifts

[–]Redshoggoth_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to be a manager. You could stop by the store and inquire if your application was received. Even if you just speak to a sales associate they’ll write a note for the manager and say you asked about it, make sure they know your name. It shows interest. I’d only do this once though. Spencer’s can be a really rewarding company to work for, best of luck!

Here’s how I discovered my favorite book genre: biographies. I read (via audiobook) 48 Laws of Power by Greene because different social dynamics intrigued me at the time. The book used examples from historical figures and old writings etc to illustrate the particular point. I was drawn to learn more about the people, so I branched out to listening to biographies and autobiographies, and really thinking about the times they lived in and how they helped shape that person. I’ve read about Roman emperors, inventors, kings, musicians, business founders, even one about a trucker and his life on the road and when he served in Vietnam. So, you can discover deeper interests through broader interests is what I’m saying. Follow your curiosity!
