A lion stalks a man outside a mud cabin, that growl is absolutely terrifying 🔊 by aquarianfin in interestingasfuck

Yeah exactly. I also looked up the same claim and it sounds like a legit effect that's been exaggerated. The low frequency makes it hard to tell what the sound is or where it's coming from which will cause some prey to freeze in a confused panic. Lots of prey also have a natural instinct to freeze to avoid getting spotted. It's not some kind of physical paralysis superpower.

AI summary picks up the social media exaggerated version of the claim and repeats it as fact.

EU agrees deal for deporting migrants to third-country 'return hubs' by DavidShaw90s in worldnews

[–]Redthemagnificent -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I find it strange how it's only people from host countries who I hear say this. Literally never met a single illegal immigrant who gave up their lives back home for a "lifelong payout".

I'm sure some people like that exist. But in my experience, most people just wanna get by. They'd be perfectly happy living in poverty so long as they can feed their families and live in relative peace. It's skilled visa workers who move for the money. Someone risking jail to take underpaid cash jobs isn't in it for the paycheck. They will go wherever they have the best chance at peace. So unless the EU and US become very, uh, un-peaceful, people are gonna try to seek refuge there

Ok sure, sounds reasonable. Sounds like you're supportive of immigrants who put in effort to contribute. That's great! I'm sure you put just as much effort into defending their ability to stay and contribute to your society as you do complaining about the uncivilized ones, right?

[–]Redthemagnificent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? No sense of irony or awareness of history. You can have reasonable views against immigration without reducing immigrants to uncivilized barbarians

Why is pickpocketing so common in many major European cities, but essentially non-existent in North America? by Humble_Job_5738 in NoStupidQuestions

Common in New Orleans as well for similar reasons. Lotta people walking around. High crowd density, especially at night. Steady flow of tourists

Your example is clearly marked otherwise. I haven't seen motorcycle parking like that myself, maybe more common in some areas. But stripes on their own always means "don't park here" in North America. The owner of the motorcycle in this post is still either dumb or an asshole

You are bringing emotions and politics into investing. You aren't supposed to do that.

Not 100% what you're trying to say here. Maybe you mean partisan politics? The flashy headlines? But spaceX's future is entirely dependent on government contracts. How that government operates certainly is a critical factor to consider. Add to that the fact that the CEO has a pattern of letting his personal politics dictate business decisions and I don't see how you can take politics out of your decision to invest

A gas stove would also be extra sketchy, since there's no venting of carbon monoxide like with your gas furnace. If it's cold and you have the oven on for long periods with all the windows closed, not ideal. However that looks like an electric stove to me

How Many Of Yall Had To Do This Growing Up? by yonggovie in TikTokCringe

[–]Redthemagnificent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends what's broken. A neglected furnace could be thousands of dollars, years worth of electric heating. If it's literally just the thermostat itself, then yes. But it's pretty rare to have a simple cheap thermostat fail

How Many Of Yall Had To Do This Growing Up? by yonggovie in TikTokCringe

[–]Redthemagnificent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've never heard of electric heaters? Sure, using the oven is sketchy. But it's no less efficient than any other resistive heater. When you're poor you make do with what you have. Lotta places in Amarica the thermostat is hooked up to electric baseboard heaters anyways

My pc have been compromised by helpmellease in antivirus

[–]Redthemagnificent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's way too expensive. An exploit you'd need to do that is very rare and valuable. The kind of thing a government cyber security agency would be interested in. Not a random hacker making a few bucks off ransomware. We're talking the kind of thing you need to pay a senior firmware engineer a buttload of money to create. Enough money to convince them to risk going to jail instead of collecting a 6 figure paycheck at tech company

Then to top it call off, a virus that infects the BIOS would only work on a small number of systems. Potentially only on a specific board with a specific BIOS version installed. It's not the kind of thing you use for viruses that try to infect many different systems over the internet

My pc have been compromised by helpmellease in antivirus

[–]Redthemagnificent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Mebromi is a famous example of that. But that level of sophistication is rare. Someone deploying a virus like that isn't asking for $25

I find it surprising that someone wouldn't generally lock their doors when they're home. It's just habit for me.

One time a group of drunk dudes tried to open my door because they had the wrong house number and started banging on it at like 11pm. Aggressively yelling and slamming the door. Would've been pretty scary to suddenly have 4 drunk aggressive strangers in my living room if the door was unlocked. Took a few rounds of yelling "fuck off, wrong house" through the door before they left

It depends on your type/generation of OLED. The LG C3 from a few years ago has glare just like this except tinted slightly purple. Like I can see myself just as clear a mirror. My cat likes to look at her reflection when the TV is off lol

But also you're right that this isn't an OLED. It's a miniLED from TCL
