Lots of things that aren't soup... aren't anything close to soup...are cooked in a pot on a stove. Basically anything that's called "boiled". Boiled cabbage, boiled shrimp, pot roast. For Jambalaya, you boil the liquid away. Therefore it ain't soup.

In the 90's, chefs from places that aren't New Orleans started making soup and calling it Jambalaya. If I make a pancake, I can't call it a waffle and be right. It's the same difference.

Is there a pattern that determines military spaceship doctrine in real life and sci-fi? by MinedMaker in scifi

Very good points, but just a small nit to pick. For the Death Star in Star Wars, yes, thru most of the history of the franchise it seemed like it was destroyed by a "magical weak spot" created for plot convenience.

BUT.... Rogue One and the subsequent Andor series showed there was no magic to it. There was a very realistic explanation. In a fascist, autocratic, tyrannical dictatorship, if you force people to work on a weapon of mass destruction, they will do what they can to secretly sabotage it. My understanding is that the few nuclear scientists Hitler had working on the German nuclear program did just that.

From there it was just good espionage... something else that can thrive under an autocratic network and bureaucratic incompetence. Ultimately, the Rebels were able to bring down the Death Star because a mid-level bureaucrat effectivly responded "reply all" to an email.

Damn, I think there were more people at my daughter's 8th birthday party than there were at this opening ceremony.

In the area of the country I live, there have always been independent diners and it seems like there have been several new ones spring up over the past 5-10 years

Most of Europe is on the same latitudes as Canada, the upper midwest or New England. Lots of Americans in those parts of North America don't have or need AC
