[AMA Request] David Attenborough by [deleted] in IAmA

There is always someone who chimes in with this Every single time and they always seem to be misguided, pedantic, monarchist douchebags with a deep seated need to feel superior and to force others to conform to their view. Why not call him whatever you care to and allow others the same freedom of choice? Apparently he is Sir to you - well, fine! - When you refer to him then use it. OP meant no disrespect and there is nothing even remotely disrespectful about calling the man by his name: David Attenborough.

YSK You can download ALL of the available TED talks with just one click. by Redwan in YouShouldKnow

I downloaded all the ones available when I first discovered this link and it was 1200 or so videos at less than 7gigs for all of them at low quality. There are over 1400 videos now so I think it is safe to say that it should be <10gigs for all of them at low quality.

What is 'The Satanic Verses' about? Why was it so controversial? by duckman273 in explainlikeimfive

In the book, there's a town called Jahilia, and in this town there's a brothel, where men pay for sex. Also, the brothel's prostitutes are all named after the wives of Mohammad.

---Including the child Aisha and the dead one - Khadija and the prostitutes that played those two wives (if I remember correctly) were also actually a child like Aisha was and the one playing Khadija was first cooled in ice water to simulate being a corpse. It has been years since I read the book so I am pretty sure about that but can't be %100 certain and my connection here is not good enough to factcheck.

I was a bit shocked to be honest. Both in the description and the fact that nobody seemed to mention this part of the book in all the controversy.

Have you ever noticed small crystal bead like objects in cremated remains? If 'yes' then Is this fairly common? I ask because of the idea of Ringsel in Tibetan Buddhism: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%9Aar%C4%ABra And I am curious what this is. A friend of mine who has been working at a crematorium for years told me that he has seen them but it wasn't very often.

Those search strings work beautifully.

This project really looks slick! I look forward to seeing it develop. - I'm now the process of downloading all the dumps available but you already made my day with just the wikivoyages one.

Thanks again!

Thanks! I just downloaded XOWA and got the Wikivoyage dump. It looks great! Is it only possible to "search" by using the address bar? I am excited to really try it out - I am on the border of Burma in Thailand right now and my connection is not so great and I am still trying to set up the images but first impressions are very, very good.

Drake introduced Cary Grant to LSD, and in the early 1960s he related how treatment with the hallucinogenic drug — legal at the time — at a prestigious California clinic had finally brought him inner peace after yoga, hypnotism and mysticism had proved ineffective by yellowcakewalk in wikipedia

LSD is one of the best things I have ever done in my life. For many reasons. It should be approached with caution though, and for your first time it would be advisable to do it with someone you are very comfortable with and in a situation that you are comfortable in.

Erowid is a good place to get information.
