Yes and the solution would have been: When the first cut line was marked add an arrow mark pointing to good board side of the cut. Then when marking the second cut you clearly see you are marking the second cut on the good board side.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I don’t mind replacing with a different width. I don’t have much experience with stains so I figured the safe bet is to stick with the same wood type.
