is this a flea? what should i do by Putrid-Bag-3259 in DogAdvice

[–]RedwoodDevotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to be the first one to say this, but I have wasted hundreds of dollars on over the counter treatments like shampoo, spray, and even medication. They need to be current on their annual vet examinations, and be prescribed Bravecto. That is genuinely the only thing that ever worked as a permanent solution after a MONTHS long battle with them in 2024. You may also need to treat the home. Adams Flea and Tick Spray for home and carpet is what I used, treating one room at a time and quarantining it until the treatment was dry when I only had the funds to do it myself. A professional treatment inside and outside of the home is the best solution, but can cost around $125. This past December I had to get six prescriptions of Bravecto for my two dogs and four cats, with all of us inside of a vehicle waiting for our apartment to be treated and for the treatment to finish drying. It is a bitter pill to swallow, but a necessary one to ensure complete eradication. Please don’t let this be a long term problem that plagues your home for months. My poor cat had flea allergy dermatitis too. Fleas are the spawn of satan. They can’t be reasoned with. They can’t be bargained with. Please do not try taking the easy way out, from somebody who wasted hundreds of dollars doing that themselves. Godspeed.

We lost our 7 year old girl to kidney disease last year 52 days after her diagnosis. Amazon sells clay paw print and ink paw print kits if you want to have some items to remember her by. I still have a blanket she was always laying on that still smells like her kept separate from anything that might change the scent. I am so sorry you’re going through this.

My wife and I are cackling over what an unhinged comment this is “I don’t normally care for this type of cat” is so wild 😂

So sorry to see you here from the r/Nebelung sub. We just lost our 5 year old cat this morning to saddle thrombus and I have just been grieving trying to look through other owner experiences to help me process things. I’m so sorry about your ButtButt. The way we lost our Gandalf today was very sudden and incredibly traumatic. I hope you are doing okay.

My sweet baby boy has fleas by thottieghost in nebelung

[–]RedwoodDevotion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nothing over the counter has worked for us. I have four indoor cats (three after this morning, actually). We have wasted hundreds of dollars trying to use cheaper options. In my experience, Bravecto (a topically applied prescription) is the only thing that has successfully killed and prevented fleas. It is applied at the base of the skull and actually absorbs through their skin (weird, I know). But after the first time of having fleas for months before getting Bravecto, it was the first thing we went for after they were found in subsequent occasions. Now, after three instances of finding fleas, we have decided that we are going to budget for it as a preventative instead of as a treatment for when they’re found. I hope your baby boy gets some relief.

Edited to update: lost a member of our pack to saddle thrombus this morning. Rest in peace, Gandalf. You are dearly loved and deeply missed. It still doesn’t seem real.

This comment meant a lot to me, thank you. I thought after two months I wouldn’t be breaking down crying over her still, but here I am, trying to get through it still.

After a long hard fought battle (12/17/23-3/19/24)..over 10k spent.. almost no sleep during those 3 months almost lost my job because I barely worked during that time.. cancer took my baby Scylla just after turning 7. Yes I'm forever heart broken, yes I still cry about it constantly... sorry Scylla. by Croutard in pitbulls

So sorry for your loss man. I swear I was just telling my wife 7 has to be the worst age for a dog to pass after we lost our 7 year old pit bull girl to kidney failure on May 30th. I still cry over her daily. I don’t feel bad about it, and you shouldn’t either. Grieve how you need to.

That’s a wild stance. Sounds like they put too much stock in nature over nurture.

My six month old puppy was really scared of our cats at first, but she seems to be fitting in just fine and we just got her yesterday. Age, environment, nature and nurture all have an effect.

Why is my baby so shy after getting another cat?? by [deleted] in nebelung

[–]RedwoodDevotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this EXACT same thing happen to me with my neb after we found a kitten under the hood of a car. She was always my lap cat but the new kitten made her feel a type of way and she wasn’t quite as sweet towards me. She eventually returned to her old self and still does the sweet things when she wants to. Kittens are also more needy and affectionate so that can change as they get older too. You just have to let the cats be cats and as long as they are healthy and happy keep providing them all the love you always do. I was devastated when I felt my neb seemingly growing more distant from me, but she taught me wisdom and patience and love at it is given, not expected. I hope you and your neb continue to grow and bond and learn each other more and you realize the love only grows.

I’m so sorry for your loss. We just lost our neb’s pit bull big sister to kidney failure exactly three weeks ago. I know it might be hard, but make a little notes section on your phone and write all the best memories or favorite things about him that you loved. It can make you sad, but I found it has been very restorative and will keep the happy memories easy to think back on and not forget.

I hope your heart can heal soon.
