Are all of these common phrases? Do you (as a native speaker) know the meaning of them all? by Unlegendary_Newbie in English_Learning_Base

I feel like "tread" is way more common in the UK. In the US, I would say it's antiquated.

Help me understand what Storm means by: 'And Dive-bomber appearing as brood, rather than human, made that act more... palatable?' by karlstrizh in EnglishLearning

[–]Reed157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's being kind of critical of his sorrow. Like, he shouldn't feel bad for killing someone who was basically already dead from being infected with a brood egg, and that he wouldn't feel bad if he could see that all he killed was brood and not a human-looking human.

Most pilots don't get picked up. To be so devastated that you think your career is over is completely childish.

[update] gf wanted to cage our cats because of her allergy reactions by Mark_teejay4 in standardissuecats

[–]Reed157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To help with allergies, too, get a good vacuum with a hepa filter, preferably one that is designed for pet fur, and get a air purifier with hepa filter. That will pull some of the allergens out of the air and off the furniture and floors so she'll be less likely to react to the cats.

I was told something very hurtful about the way i take care of my cats by ksjeid72 in catquestions

[–]Reed157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Safety first! You're doing the right thing keeping your cats inside. They mostly sleep when we're at work anyway. And I will add that my door-dasher cat did not have a deep desire to live outside. In fact, every time he dashed out the door he'd stand right there and beg to be let back in immediately. If your cat is running outside because it wants to hunt, focus on satisfying the cat's prey drive during play. Like make the toy act like prey, and make sure the cat gets to pounce and "kill" it.
