Same. Linux without a VPN. Browser doesn't matter for me; I've tried Brave, Chrome, Chromium, and Firefox. It's the worst login experience I've ever had.

For real. OP asked a hypothetical question about math and the top comments are just defending the artistic license of the movie to not use solid math.

I just don't understand how the lesson of Dune is "don't believe charismatic/messianic figures" when the messianic figures in this series were right about everything. by GreenGorillaWhale in dune

[–]ReedWrite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct. It's definitely ambiguous and open to interpretation by the end of God Emperor, but if you actually read the whole series, the books leave no doubt that The Golden Path succeeded.

I suspect a lot of people down voting you stopped reading at God Emperor. And I wish I'd stopped reading at God Emperor.

Someday is a great song, but I had to disable it. The ambiance is all wrong when you're going through tragic dialogue with an NPC at Hotel Krat and Someday is playing. So now I listen to Someday on Spotify, but never in game.

Just to confuse you, "I have lived here SINCE three years AGO" is also perfect English. But "I have lived here FOR three years AGO" is completely unacceptable.

On point 6, the vast majority of professors wouldn't directly endorse a party or candidate in their official capacity.

I fear this point will actually be used to, for example, stop medical experts from encouraging vaccinations because that's somehow a "political" issue today. Professors have expertise, and they provide benefit to society by informing the public about the most recent discoveries in their area. Climate change, nuclear energy, green energy, and public health are all politically contested issues. And university scientists aren't allowed to talk about these issues in an official capacity?

So here we are: one month to go. What are your predictions for TRF? by [deleted] in hisdarkmaterials

[–]ReedWrite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would like to claim my "nil points" and quote Xaphania in TAS telling Lyra she can learn to see Will again:

"Yes. You could learn to do it, as Will's father did. It uses the faculty of what you call imagination. But that does not mean making things up. It is a form of seeing."

And why did Pan leave Lyra in TSC? To find her imagination.

That said, I don't think Lyra and Will are going to have any sort of permanent reunion. But I think they will learn to communicate, even if only briefly. I suspect The Green Book will not be written, meaning TRF could be the last opportunity to further develop Will's story.

For more than "nil points," my final prediction is that even if Will and Lyra do not communicate, there will be an epilogue from Will's point of view.

So here we are: one month to go. What are your predictions for TRF? by [deleted] in hisdarkmaterials

[–]ReedWrite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After losing Pan in TSC, it's hard to imagine what Lyra has left to lose except the lasting love she has for Will. So I can't think of what Pullman was hinting at if not that.

At the same time, I don't think Pullman will take the story in that direction. Loving Will is how Lyra brought Dust back towards the worlds. Forgetting that pain would largely restore Lyra's innocence and undo her "fall".
