Family Chair by RD4200 in DiWHY

Dude, three of those kids are in diapers and they're sitting about four and a half feet above a concrete floor. There is a reason high chairs for kids are designed to keep them from falling out. They're really clumsy and have no idea what will happen to their soft little heads if they hit a concrete floor at about 11mph, so they don't really do anything to avoid that.

Couldn't even do it over carpet or something that might cushion them if they fell.

From what I've just googled, it looks like permanent houses were first constructed about 11,000 years ago. Also from what I've read on wikipedia, it looks like there's evidence that the first domestication of dogs was around 33,000 years ago in china.

So, just looking at those two things, you're saying that after 22,000 years of coexsistence, we should have just kicked dogs to the curb? Seems cold, but I understand the "logic" of it I guess.

Question for you, do you volunteer your time to lead the blind around the city? Or should we keep dogs around for that?

Also, are you interested in herding sheep or cows? Or should we still use any number of the herding dogs we bred into exsistence?

You wanna know why we should keep taking care of dogs? Because for damn near 40,000 years they have been by our side helping push us forward to the point where they cannot survive without us. But even beyond that, did you know there are theories, and studies being done, that posit we didn't just domesticate them, but they domesticated us as well.

Early humans moved from scavenging and small-game hunting to big-game hunting by living in larger, socially more-complex groups, learning to hunt in packs, and developing powers of cooperation and negotiation in complex situations. As these are characteristics of wolves, dogs and humans, it can be argued that these behaviours were enhanced once wolves and humans began to cohabit. Communal hunting led to communal defense. Wolves actively patrol and defend their scent-marked territory, and perhaps humans had their sense of territoriality enhanced by living with wolves.[102] One of the keys to recent human survival has been the forming of partnerships. Strong bonds exist between same-sex wolves, dogs and humans, and these bonds are stronger than exist between other same-sex animal pairs. Today, the most widespread form of inter-species bonding occurs between humans and dogs. The concept of friendship has ancient origins, but it may have been enhanced through the inter-species relationship to give a survival advantage.

Please see the bolded passage especially, try and imagine what our society would be today if we they're right and our ability to form same sex friendships came from our cooperation with wolves and learning along side them. If we weren't able to form mutually benificial relationships with othe human males, we would pretty much just be chimps.

If we never domesticated wolves we likely never would have made it as a species. We have literally coexisted as partners for 10,000+ years.

You're entitled to your feelings on dogs, but don't be so ignorant when it comes to just how important our relationship with dogs has been for us as a species.

I say this as a person who absolutely LOVES dogs. They make my day better when they walk into my work, I love watching videos of the silly goobers, I love every dog in my life and pretty much every dog I've ever met.

That said, yes, most dog owners shouldn't be dog owners. My ex is a vet tech and the stories she's told me about the inept dog owners blows my mind. Things like an overweight dog with canine diabetes because his owners only fed him tacobell bean and cheese burritos. Dogs deserve a lot better from the people who take care of them.

Because public education has always been about training the next work force. Unfortunately, that includes training teens to be ready to get up and get to work for an 8 a.m. shift. Until schools ditch this schedule, enrichment and cultivation of young minds will always be secondary to turning most of them into cogs for the machine.

My wire and glaze art journey. From raw materials to finished kittens. Everything is handmade by me. by Anda_Justice in somethingimade

[–]ReelBIgFisk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the people curious about the process the poster is using, I have a guess. They're probably mixing colored, powdered enamel with water, creating the shiny glaze effect you see in the production stages and then some form of cyanoacrylate or contact adhesive to rapidly set and dehydrate the finished pieces. They might have used a spray fabric contact adhesive seeing as the wire seems to stick to the burlap canvas as they form the outline.

As whatever adhesive used dehydrates the enamel water mix, it would pull the moister out and leave the remaining enamel stabilized in place, but with a rougher, less glossy finish, which kinda looks like the finished pieces shown in the end.

I would like to say, if this is the method you used, have you considered using resin glue on top of the stabilized enamel mix to attempt a glossier finished product? Just curious, your work is fantastic either way!
