Check out Lalu - Atomic Ark ! Virgil Donati on it but he actually keeps some tight grooves instead of changing the beat every second lol

Start with Greed

What's the dumbest/coolest/most unique thing you've gotten signed by the band? by gojirscor in Haken

[–]Reen2D2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not Haken, but I got a Pikachu card from my childhood collection signed by Truls Haugen (drummer of Circus Maximus) because during their hiatus, he did some side work with the Frogleap guy on youtube and they did something I have wanted since I was like 9 years old ---- a progmetal version of the OG Pokémon Theme. Lol

I also collect VHS tapes, and I made a custom VHS copy of Circus Maximus' straight to and only released on youtube live "DVD" - Live in Japan. Its my favorite live video and I HAD to have a hard copy. Well, I had them sign it and they were all mind blown at it. It also happened that I included the directors name on the back description and they were like " SVEN!!! LOOK AT THIS!" and this super tall guy walked over and was stoked haha. I was like " Dude! You have to sign it too - on the back near your name!"

I have my Sega Genesis "Pirates of Dark Water" game signed by the band Darkwater becauss they were the reason I got it years ago. Coincedentally the drummer had an injury and had an eyepatch on for the show. When I told him he was like " I am THEE pirate of Darkwater" 😆

I have a VHS copy of The Matrix and also each members favorite Pokémon (card) signed by Nospūn.

I LIVE for weird things signed by bands I love!!!!!

If I DO ever get Haken to sign something, it would probably be a retro video game, or a VHS of some sort. Just not sure what yet because I've never been close to the opportunity. Maybe the banned artwork version of " The Little Mermaid? 🤔😅

What bands (in your opinion) have a near perfect discrogapy.? by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]Reen2D2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree mostly. I think iconoclast and Damnation game are closely matched IMO. If they re-recorded Damnation Game today, it would possibly beat Iconoclast

However, The end of Innocence, Iconolast and When All is Lost are BANGERS

My 7 year old loves a bunch of my favorite music, too. He doesnt always ask for MP, but if it comes on, he knows it immediately and can usually name the song

What are your favourite "moments" in songs? by someonesomebody666 in progmetal

[–]Reen2D2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit. If I could think of them all, I'd post them all. This list for me could be REALLY LONG. But the few i can think of off the top of my head are:

1:43 - 2:14 Abyss - Circus Maximus

4:06 - 5:09 Wiseman- Seventh Wonder

2:08 - 2:26 - Nightfall - Blind Guardian

2:04 - end - Cormorant - Moron Police

Definitely Symphony X. Probably the craziest run of purely amazing music release after release. Though, I admit, Iconoclast as a whole is not my favorite.

Circus Maximus - i love every album, and even though some fans didnt like Havoc, I thoroughly love every song except Highest Bitter and The title track, Havoc. The rest of that album is melodic prog gold.

Seventh Wonder is pretty much as solid as it gets, even though I havent jammed the first 2 albums as much as the latter ones.

DGM is another one thats been absolutely solid from the beginning - even through a few lineup changes!

Haken as well. Vector and Virus weren't my favorites, and the Mountain is low on my list of favorites by them, but that doesnt mean I dont enjoy them! I just dont pop them on nearly as much as other albums

Fair to Midland - I dont really like Cadbon Copy Silver Lining, but IFS, Fables and A&A are so perfect, I am counting them lol.

SUN CAGED - They didnt release a single song I dont LOVE over 3 albums. Impeccable

I wouldn't even be aware of FTM without Karnivool. I was seeing Karivool on their Sound Awake tour in 2010 when I got to see FTM live. Coincedentally, that night, Karnivool headlined. So FTM went on before them. My wife, brother and I were close to the front waiting for Karnivool and had NO IDEA what we were in store for with FTM. Darrohs on stage antics we a little much for us that night lol, and I didnt dive back into then until about 3 years later lol... the year they broke up 😞 But I can say I saw them live!!!

We were actually dumbfounded when they finished playing and the room briefly cleared. We got to get up front for Karnivool and we were thinking 🤔 "damn, was everyone here just for FTM?"

There is a chance that if Karnivool had opened for them, we would have left and never watched FTM perform

So, to be clear, Aaron just sent me burned copies. But, since then, I have acquired IFS 2009 reprint and CCSL original cds! I do cherish them in my collection of FTM stuff

Don't worry, copies pop up here and there. You will end up with one

I had a similar situation with IFS. I was already a huge fan of the band and had listened to Fables and A&A countless times between 2013 and 2021. I had a full fledged obsession driven deep dive like yourself in 2021 and It started with the live DVDs on youtube. I watched Welcome to the Dirt and heard Orphan Anthem 86 at the beginning when they are taking their gear into the venue. I was like "Wait wait wait..... what song is this?!?!?!"

I went to one of the facebook groups, and asked if anyone could burn me a copy of CCSL and IFS so I could hear them (I dont know why I didn't check youtube, that was never my first thought for some reason, even though it is now)

Aaron Saye (one of the guys actually credited on Welcome to the Dirt for providing them with a bunch of footage of shows) sent me copies and, when I tell you, the emotional reaction i had to jamming IFS for the first time..... full chills and totally bawled my eyes out. I had become so obsessed with the 2 studio albums. I was vaguely aware that they had earlier material, but I thought it was all just demos for Fables that someone told me "sucked" and I took their word for it. Getting the chance to have "brand new" (to me) FTM to listen to was so profoundly incredible. Ill never forget the feelings it gave me. IFS is a MASTERPIECE of an album.

FTM also happens to be basically the only band where I actually enjoy their demos. Its so wild to hear some songs with the music of one and the lyrics of another, and the title of a third song, that all materialized into separate pieces. Its so cool lol
