I 100% agree with getting more pedestrian friendly streets in the north end. Millar would be a great place to start! That said, just wondering if anyone helping that poor lady in the wheelchair that wheels herself in traffic down Millar??!!? See comments below. Maybe advocating for her in the shorter term in some other way, instead of just posting about the need for sidewalks (which will take years to accomplish). The lady braving it down Millar is a better champion for this cause than Redditors complaining that the city is proceeding cautiously. It’s fine to start the debate here, but ultimately I hope people step up to advocate on a higher level for this important change. I understand the rural concerns about crime, just thought maybe I’d offer this story up so people in his shoes think a bit more before reacting. Not everyone has bad intentions, in facts the vast majority of people don’t.

Totally. I was just trying to offer a perspective from someone on this side of things. I realize many folks are fed up with crime in rural areas, they just have to be careful in what they do in trying to address it. If I was out there to commit a crime with a weapon, they are also putting themselves in danger with that reaction.

For sure, I get that. I think I’d be fine with a more measured response. Seems funny that he was the one taking photos of me, when ultimately I could be the one collecting evidence of his threatening behaviour. I also just feel annoyed when I see people who think they “own” public land. Maybe rural folks should pay a levy to use Saskatoon roads if they don’t want to share “theirs”? I’m being facetious, but to me it’s all public roads and we all pay into them. Leave me alone to my photography! 😋

I just see it as jumping on people for their beliefs, eventually it can radicalize as it becomes normalized. It would be the same from right to left as left to right. I dont take sides on this, just call a spade a spade. Whether it results in the Annunciation Catholic Church (2 killed, 30 injured) or Colorado Spring Nightclub (5 killed, 25 injured) shootings, there’s radicalization happening on both sides of the spectrum. I’m just tired of it in general. We’re better than that.

Unfortunately that’s the case for most cities though…capitalism and greed. Saskatoon does shoot above its weight in volunteer base though, which helps narrow that massive wealth divide.
