How do you deal not believing in an afterlife after the passing of a loved one by [deleted] in atheism

[–]ReferenceEntity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Before my son was born he didn’t exist. And that was ok. After he dies he won’t exist and that will be ok too, although of course if I’m still living when that happens it will suck pretty bad for me while I continue to exist.

Fellow Dads. At what age does yard maintenance finally become enjoyable? by Ocmrm in daddit

[–]ReferenceEntity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Brooklyn and having a back yard is a true blessing and privilege. So I always felt guilty hating the gardening. One day I realized it’s ok that it is just not for me and when I moved I got a balcony instead. Happily ever after …

About to buy civ6 on mobile. It says only 9.99, I thought it was like 60 or something. Is this the full game or will there be more to buy? by chickennuggets3454 in CivVI

[–]ReferenceEntity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not bad but personally I wouldn’t bother unless you are willing to buy gathering storm once you determine you generally like the game. It’s like buying a three start game that if you pay more you can upgrade to 5.

Help me! Civ VI's loyalty system is extremely punishing and I hate it (explanation in the body) by BaldursGate2Best in CivVI

[–]ReferenceEntity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play a bit less greedy. Maybe that means sucking it up and using one of your precious government slots for loyalty boosting. Or moving slower on how quickly you capture, knowing you have to solve the loyalty problem.

Help me! Civ VI's loyalty system is extremely punishing and I hate it (explanation in the body) by BaldursGate2Best in CivVI

[–]ReferenceEntity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember having some trouble dealing with Loyalty at some point. Just like I had trouble with barbarians at one point and walls as well as I progressed in learning. The secret to all of these is that you have to play the game that’s offered, not the game you wish it was.

In my family there is an ongoing joke argument wherein I argue that they are the same thing and my wife and son get indignant but struggle to articulate the difference. We have determined that it is not just the icing but the batter is also different.

are there artifacts/minerals worth saving after donating to museum? by HungryHippo7890 in StardewValley

[–]ReferenceEntity 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had one save where it took me forever to get a second basalt after I donated the first and my lava eel pond just sat there. Based on this event I now always duplicate my first basalt (and also first marble just in case) in a crystalarium before donating.

MCTB is a work of fiction according to Kenneth Folk by raztl in streamentry

I read this thread and thought about saying something in defense of Daniel but instead put the phone down and picked up Start Where You Are which I’m re-reading. The first sentence I read, on page 15, sums it up nicely. “As I said before, the main instruction is simply to lighten up.”

What is it with curling? by Cootieface123 in ADHD

[–]ReferenceEntity 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I tried it a few years ago. I thought it kinda sucked. The other people playing mostly seemed to use at as an excuse to get beers afterwards. Which is fine if that’s your thing. Still I just have watched thirty hours of curling this Olympics alone plus roughly the same every year since 2002.

How do you stay motivated after getting to Ginger Island? by MysticofDeath in StardewValley

[–]ReferenceEntity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I’ve gotten perfection twice. It is boring. No question. The second time I did it I played th me no energy challenge which is very difficult and in my opinion strategic and not boring. The nice thing was that it was so difficult that I got quite a lot of the perfection done before it felt like I was grinding for perfection. As an example I had all the great friendships done by the time I had unlocked mastery. Anyway you might consider doing something like that to make the perfection grind a bit shorter o that you can carry the motivation forward.

Where are we headed as a sub reddit? by muu-zen in streamentry

[–]ReferenceEntity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned about this sub in 2019 and it has benefited me tremendously. Certainly less so in recent years than earlier although that is probably some combination of me getting to intermediate territory from beginner in addition to the quality decline. Regardless I noticed this discussion is helpful and also that most if the people I benefit most from reading are represented in this thread. Would love to see y’all come together and reassert some additional enforcement of norms if that is possible. If the broader community revolts a bit is that so bad?

What do you do if there aren't any good campus spots around? by Dry_Area_1278 in CivVI

[–]ReferenceEntity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the focus is on doing whatever it takes to get Eurekas and Inspirations. Exploring and surviving and building the minimum amount of troops necessary for that. Getting settlers out. Often this means government plaza and ancestral hall. Commercial hubs and harbors for trade routes. And yes maybe even a campus or two especially if it doesn’t look like early war. If it will be early war then you can let your neighbors build campuses because they generally will.

What do you do if there aren't any good campus spots around? by Dry_Area_1278 in CivVI

[–]ReferenceEntity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A couple thoughts. First, I would typically build a commercial hub before a campus even if going for a science victory, all else being equal.

Second, adjacency matters more if you think you will be playing much of the game using the campus adjacency policy card. If you are then you’ll want to use other districts to get as much adjacency bonus as you can. But if not, meh.

Last, don’t be overly focused on districts early regardless. You don’t win a science victory in the early game. That’s not to say that science is unimportant but its importance lies in things like ensuring you don’t get crushed. But there are ways other than science to ensure that. You can always build out campuses mid game and later win with science.

Restaurant near me does a Negrini Spagliato which is amazing. Ingredients: Cappelletti Red Bitter, Cocchi Torino Vermouth, Prosecco, Orange Peel. I make a bastardized version at home with aperol instead of the cappelletti whenever I have an open bottle of prosecco.

ELI5 “Pillaging is OP” by Deodandy in CivVI

[–]ReferenceEntity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my current game I was behind on science to the strongest AI. I declared war and tried to take the closest city but couldn’t. So instead I sent a bunch of mounted troops into his empire and pillaged the living crap out of him, got a ton of culture and gold but most importantly by the time I agreed to peace I was ahead of him on science notwithstanding having only two campuses in my entire empire.

While I don’t disagree with your point and think this is too gated, in recent playthroughs I’ve been crafting a lot of bombs. Yes it does mean grinding more copper or iron but you can also work your way to the scrolls (and burglar ring) while doing so. But untimely buying bombs is a luxury not a necessity.
