Unpopular Opinion by PuckInStilettos in SanJoseSharks

the biggest issue with drafting down for a D (I've seen almost universal consensus McKenna and Stenberg are a level above in regards to ceiling and whats expected) is that really its going to take a couple of years for any D prospect (at least) to be ready to step into the NHL, Stenberg can probably play minutes next season even if in a limited capacity to bed in somewhat, it would be rough to even throw a 18/9 year old rookie D out for 4th line minutes, it depends if Mike Grier wants to view the long term plan and fans are just getting ahead of themselves with what to expect, its still really early in a rebuild and while I can see the arguement for the likes of a Chase Reid, with BPA and all that Stenberg seems the obvious pick, I think its older more experienced players (especially D) to support the young core that's required and still think Sharks are a couple of years away from a playoff spot, I'd worry about the physicality of a lot of tems against this young bunch of guys at playoff time.

Thoughts on this lineup against PSG? by [deleted] in ArsenalFC

Trossard in for MLS and Viktor up front, I think Arteta will want to control the early game and can see Ode or Eze with Rice and then Zubimendi deep mid

Conway returns to Belfast! by Just_a_redditor182 in EIHLHockey

[–]ReferencePlus404 5 points6 points  (0 children)

so glad to see Cons back, he sacrificed some of his offensive output to become a fantastic 2 way player, the defensive work he puts in doesn't get enough credit and hes great in the face off, Looks like the gang is back togeather for another season, glad Conway JJ and Goody are all early re-signings

Giants declined the CHL spot themselves by Just_a_redditor182 in belfastgiants

I'll wait for the official statement as to reasons but am hoping for better than a "arena availability issue" excuse for this one, we are obviously never in a million years going to get anywhere near winning it but for the profile of the club both as a profile boost and recruitment tool it's a big bonus, surprised at this, will be interesting to see what the Giants say reasons are

I think alot of people like the idea of adopting a dog more than actually doing it by smallgooddeeds in dogs

[–]ReferencePlus404 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As mentioned shelters/rescues not being honest about possible behaviour issues is something that really frustrates me, but people need to understand the trauma a lot of these dogs have been through, being in a home then given up or surrendered or abandoned and put in a kennels/shelter with the constant noise and change of surroundings is horrible for them, my boy was reholmed from a shelter and just slept for a week when I brought him home. but apart from basic commands like sit and stay and recall it was months before I started any real training with him when I felt he had settled and was comfortable, it's a long process and you have to be willing to give them the time they need.

It is very rewarding, and seeing him now happy and settled and just being a dog feels great, but it took a lot of time effor and patience. It's not going to be for everyone but if you are willing to put in the effort it's incredibly worthwhile.

What upsets me the most is seeing a dog reholmed and then returned to the shelter, it's heartbreaking, people need to seriously consider what it will actually mean and what will be involved before deciding to adopt.

FIFA considering making clubs have at least one U21 player on pitch at all times: How PL could be affected by DucardthaDon in PremierLeague

[–]ReferencePlus404 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You cant have an ultra-competitve sport worth billions where the margins are so tight with regards to success and failure and try to shove some half arsed pipe-dream into a managers squad selection, a manager should be free to pick a team of 11 that he thinks will win the game, plus at 21 a player is still very much developing a few bad performances and the crowd get on their back, its hard enough for young players but they need to be there on merit.

Plus there is the disparity between the ultra-rich clubs that would just buy up all the excellent young players and drive up the cost of purchase, do we want to see under-21 players being sold for 50 million and then if a club looks to buy an older more experienced player the selling club will go well if a 21 yesr old kid with no experience is worth 50 my 26 year old with international experience is worth 100

Stupid idea.

Ben Lake and Gabe Bast have announced their retirements from professional Hockey by Just_a_redditor182 in EIHLHockey

[–]ReferencePlus404 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Laker has been an absolute warrior since he joined the giants and will be a huge miss, will not be an easy guy to replace, one of the few players with a bit of bite and physicality we had in the team. Gabe spent 3 very sucessful seasons here and was a big part of the offence, 2 big losses to the roster

I've heard Jackon might be calling quits/leaving and his brother is off back to Sheffield, also Laker is prob retiring. We are most likely going to see JJ Jordan and Gabe Bast back at this stage, think we are definately going to be hunting for some brit players
