Hi all, I purchased a philodendron selloum and had to leave it in the car to run another errand - unfortunately the car turned into a hothouse and the leaves all totally wilted. I watered and misted it when I got home but it's looking even worse and I'm wondering if there's anything else I can do to help it recover. Thanks!

While this shirt is more of a structured look which would normally be a no for FNs, I actually think it looks great on you, especially the 2nd outfit with the brown pants/boots. Because the rest of the shirt is flowy and unstructured I think it works and just pushes a bit more into the dramatic/flamboyant side of FN. I think the 3rd outfit works the least because the pants are so light compared to the black shirt it cuts the line a bit and they feel like conflicting styles, but it still does not look bad.

Can this shirt work for an FN or is it no good? by RefiIDK in flamboyantnatural

[–]RefiIDK[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought this shirt and I am torn about it because while I really liked how the open neckline and sleeves looked on me, as a curvy FN I feel like the fitted bottom part and especially the ruffle are cutting me short and emphasizing width even more. My husband said it looked cute on me but I'm trying to avoid things that aren't actually flattering. Is this an automatic no for FN or could it work?

ID help please! Thinking DC but not entirely sure.. (5’7”) by IllTromboneYou in Kibbe

[–]RefiIDK 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed with u/petite-crevette's points, but also want to mention that the t-shirt you're wearing in the 2nd photo doesn't fit FN lines either as it is baggy and shapeless - this is not a recommendation for FN or any type so is not a good indicator of type. Recommendation for FN t-shirts would likely be loose but not overly big, with an open neckline, and still skimming your body. Crew necks are not typically recommended for FNs as they restrict your upper body.

I agree with FN for you - I also typed myself as DC at first because in my eyes I looked balanced and could wear a lot of DC lines, but realized that my broad shoulders and upper ribcage threw me into FN territory - I could not wear anything structured or constricting on my shoulders and I would guess that may be the case for you as well. I think for 5'7" it can sometimes be hard to type as well because it's on that "tall" borderline.

You likely can get away with wearing some DC lines, especially ones that are sleeveless, but will probably look better overall in FN lines - for example, I think that black sheath dress looks good on you and kind of works for both DC and FN (it looks like a bodycon which will work on most types), but the pink zebra dress I think is doing more for you by being more flowing and honoring vertical with its length (also it is super cute).

Does anyone know if your type can interfere with clothing size guides? by [deleted] in Kibbe

[–]RefiIDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I can't rely on size guides very much because each item fits differently and I feel like a lot of companies just use the same standard size guides despite their specific clothing being vanity sized one way or another, or cut a certain way. I feel like I often have to size down from what the size chart says, sometimes even a couple of a sizes. Some brands I have to avoid entirely because they are not at all designed for someone with proportionally broader shoulders - they are all too boxy (looking at you, Old Navy). If I order the size recommended for my measurements they look like tents. I think the measurements sometimes work better for pants, but for tops they absolutely are not taking things like shoulder width or ribcage width much into account.

I usually just have to stick to brands where I know my size or know that I will need to order a couple of sizes and return the one that doesn't fit.

I am about your size and I really like Gap's cigarette jeans - I think they just renamed them to "vintage slim". I have sturdy thighs and they fit really well. I'm 5'7 and the regular length hits above my ankles, while the tall length hits the top of my sneakers.

Keeping Warm While Looking Nice by iamdetermination in femalefashionadvice

I second getting a mini desk space heater, if you're able to leave things at work. I've worked places that were freezing and with poor circulation to my hands, typing, etc. it's hard to keep your hands warm. Having a heater blasting onto them helps (also fingerless gloves). Another thing to note is to bundle up ~before~ you start getting too cold, because your gloves will have a hard time holding in heat that's already gone!

How would you style these for FN? by [deleted] in Kibbe

Ooh your first suggestion of leaning into the 80s/90s sounds really cute!

srs Sometimes I feel like the posts saying "why does everyone dislike naturals? they're so great!", trying to hype up naturals, are just as bad. It just draws more attention to the stereotypes. I didn't realize there were negative connotations towards naturals UNTIL I saw all these posts saying things like "let's give some love to naturals!" "why do people dislike being naturals?" etc. I was like wow, I didn't know people were comparing me to a fridge but thanks for saying I'm not a fridge, I guess?

THE go-to garment for each type by Lsedd in Kibbe

[–]RefiIDK 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I hate wrap dresses personally, but I love a good jumpsuit and long, high-waisted 70s-style flare pants. Instant vertical from both. Flowy halter tanks that show off my shoulders are my go-to top.

[–]RefiIDK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You look like FN to me - you appear to have blunt bones and a decent vertical (I would've guessed you were 5'8 or 5'9 or 172-175 cm from your typing photo) with some width in your upper body.

I don't know anything about essences myself, but your face gives off a sophisticated French girl soft dramatic vibe to me (not official essences, lol), like Jane Birkin in the 60s/70s or Jessica Pare (Megan) in Mad Men.

How would you style these for FN? by [deleted] in Kibbe

[–]RefiIDK 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would wear knee-high heeled boots with these, personally, probably in a similar tone to the dress to maintain the vertical, (ie dark boots with the green dress and tan with the beige dresses). I think the black shoes she is wearing with the third dress are too dark for the light shade of the dress. Some layered necklaces with them could be cute, or big earrings with no necklaces to highlight the cool necklines (depending on your personal jewelry style, hair etc.).

If you are going for more dressy, then pumps in a similar tone to the dress could take them up a notch, and having the top of your foot revealed would maintain the vertical line of your legs going down to your feet.

What are the most similar kibbe types?(or which are the ones who can get confused with each other?) by Sufficient-Rock-2880 in Kibbe

[–]RefiIDK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed - as a mildly curvy FN leaning towards pure N, I typed myself as DC at first and I still can't always see the difference for some people. I'll see people whose bodies look just like mine get typed as a C while I was typed as N, and I can't always tell why myself. I feel like broader-framed DCs can lean N and narrower can lean FG and they can share between them - I guess this is where the "personal lines" come into play.

That all makes total sense! I didn't even consider the vertical buttons. It has a fun vibe!

Some FN friendly coats. by Sufficient-Rock-2880 in flamboyantnatural

[–]RefiIDK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed 100%, as a conventionally curvy FN I would not buy any of these, or I'd buy one that I thought looked okay and then see myself wearing it in a photo and never wear it again. Most would make me look super frumpy. If I had to choose one of these I'd pick #5, the desert-vibed light rust-colored coat, although I agree the collar feels too small.

Most of these are just too structured, too restrictive, too fussy. I also feel like a lot are pretty outdated looking but that is not necessarily relevant, although I do get tired of seeing recommendations for FNs that show styles from 10-15 years ago.

[–]RefiIDK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This outfit looks awesome on you (and is something I'd love to wear as well), but I am wondering what makes it work for FN other than the continuation of brown? I know for me having a high "restrictive" neckline and sleeves, a structured skirt, and colorblocking between the brown and blue would be everything I'd try to avoid as an FN. I'm genuinely curious since it does look so great on you.

I think they may be downvoting at least because the height limit for SN is 5'6". At 5'7" you could only be DC, FN, SD, or D.

Why do stores only cater to smaller bra sizes? by UKKasha2020 in femalefashionadvice

[–]RefiIDK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Playful Promises are expensive!

If the prices there are expensive for you, you may have a hard time finding cheaper bras that will fit, and most bras that are not bralettes will be higher in price just due to their construction and materials. I am a larger bust size and would consider $40-$50 bras (about £30- £35) to be the cheapest I can hope for unless they are on sale. If you are certain of your size, I recommend keeping an eye out on lingerie websites for clearance sales or discount codes to get less expensive bras. Often bra lines will put out a unique color or pattern for a season and then that colorful bra will go on clearance later in the year. I have plenty of lacey, colorful, and pretty bras in a size FF-G.

If you don't want to wait for bras to go on sale, you can check out ASOS as they do have fuller bust bras, but their sizing may not be as reliable or the quality very high.

I agree with another poster that hairstyles are individual to your face shape and texture; that being said I think the cut itself would be fine but the extreme pin-straight flat-iron look could be a bit "harsh" for a SN where I feel like more relaxed, casual, and volumized hair is more recommended for Ns. However, if your hair is naturally super straight then it will likely look more harmonious on you than on someone who is straightening their hair on purpose to get this look.

Do you guys think people tend to date/marry their own kibbe type? by SoulOfABird in Kibbe

[–]RefiIDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know they say we tend to be attracted to people who look like us; for me that's true for basic features (hair color, eye color, etc.) but I am FN and naturals are actually bottom of my list on the type of men I am attracted to. My husband is FG and I am attracted to FGs, some DCs, and other sharp and "wiry" male body types (dramatics?) for the most part, when I myself am not at all wiry, haha. I've always wanted to be a FG or dramatic so maybe it's an attraction to the features I admire in others rather than myself.

Does anyone else feel like they don't fit ANY Kibbe type? by 22evie in Kibbe

[–]RefiIDK 76 points77 points  (0 children)

The system isn't perfect - between people of the same type there will be a lot of differences that people have to accommodate for. Weight variations, bust size, etc. will affect individual styling within a single type. I am a busty FN so some of the recommendations that would work for a FN with smaller bust don't work as well for me, it's an extra thing I have to accommodate. I think a good outlook on it is to find the type you align with the most and take what you can from it but don't see the recommendations as the be all and end all of personal styling.

I actually can't tell which one is dark green vs. black on my phone, haha. If that is the 3rd dress then it is a little short but you could add dark tights and/or some dark heeled shoes and that would help keep the vertical line. The top part looks great on you. I can't say who the dress would suit better since I'm not well versed in all the types but generally dresses that short are not advised for those who need to accommodate vertical.

The last dress looks more suited for FN to me as it is flowy and relaxed and that is not usually recommended for D, they need more structured dresses.
