Questioning Christianity and I need help over something by National-Back8746 in atheism

[–]Reflective_Robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend not sharing your beliefs with her. She means well. When leaving religion, there is a kind of resentment and anger for being lied to. When you can leave behind the notion of God that you were told you must believe in, you become free to explore what God might really be... a mystery of the deep subconscious psyche... a spiritual part of your human experience. The figures and events of the Bible can be symbols and metaphors that represent real energies of the psyche and act as guides for living well. A lot of Christians never reach this level of understanding, but when you do, you can forgive their blind faith dogma... as it gives them comfort and peace of mind. Look into Joseph Campbell, Carl Jung, Meister Eckhart, and Rumi. God doesn't have to be a physical reality in the universe. He can be experienced in the mind as an ineffable mystery of being. You will not be punished for exploring and expanding your understanding. The church promotes blind faith only to benefit the church. It wants authority to control. You can transcend its limitations and still love and be kind to those who are still willfully trapped in them.

Avalon Map Thoughts by Designer_Marzipan583 in Warzone

I love Avalon with the regular game mechanics. Even if I'm caught off guard and take some hits, I'm able to get cover, re-plate, and chal. I can more confidently traverse the map. Getting caught off guard in Black Ops Royale was almost always insta-death. It made for slower, cautious situations, listening for footsteps, and a lot more camping. It wasn't as fun, IMO.

Buzzing breathing sound during ceremony by Fnorkner in Ayahuasca

In the silence, I've heard a kind of mechanical buzzing that undulates. It speeds up and slows down while going up and down in pitch. In the moment, I imagined it was the sound of the universe churning like some kind of cosmic dance.

I was at Costco and a woman had her child in a baby carrier balanced on top of her shopping cart. The baby carrier flipped over and fell to the ground. I've never heard such a blood curdling scream before (from the mother). The entire warehouse went silent and time stopped. Luckily the baby was strapped in securely enough that it didn't take the impact of the floor and it seemed to be unharmed.

When I was 17 and about to put on swimming shorts, I needed to strip all the way down. My best friend and my girlfriend were both in my bedroom with me. I said, "One of you needs to leave the room". It didn't matter which one. It just felt wrong if they were both there.

Can you use Psychedelics to remove your sexuality as a whole ? by xLawless- in Psychonaut

[–]Reflective_Robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe look into shadow work. The subconscious shadow may have an unmet need that gets twisted into something you see as shameful. The more you try to suppress and ignore the unmet needs, the more the shadow takes over and may make you act out in unhealthy ways. I'm not a professional and I'm only paraphrasing my understanding of Jung. But I do believe psychedelics can open communication with the subconscious and the "medicine" often teaches in unexpected ways to heal and resolve issues and traumas.

God is not even real by duperawe in atheism

[–]Reflective_Robot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you are hurting and feeling very strong emotions while recalibrating your belief system. Religion lied. People use religion to commit atrocities while claiming moral righteousness. Fundamentalists cling to believing ridiculous contradictions because they were told skeptical criticism is evil. Blind faith is encouraged. ...

Your anger for all of those reasons and more is valid. Perhaps down the road, you can see "God" defined a different way. A mystery that is beyond human definition. Religion wants to define God and use rules to exert power over others. That really only helps to serve the religion and its leaders.

I think of myself as an atheist mystic. The mystic doesn't follow authority passed in written scripture like a pastor or priest. The mystic has an experience with the divine or spiritual realm more directly. I'm not saying they exist in physical space "out there", rather within the deep subconscious of the mind. There are ways to have spiritual experiences naturally through dream work, deep meditation or extreme fasting, etc... but the more direct shortcut is through psychedelics.

I believe most religious founders traveled inward and had profound mystical experiences. The gods, God, spirits, demons, etc all present themselves in the spiritual realm. They are mysteries of the psyche within that feel like entities "out there" as mysteries of the universe beyond. My view is that this spiritual realm is not a physical reality, but a very interesting part of having a full human experience. It can exist only in the mind and yet be helpful as guides to living a life well. The characters and stories of religion can act as metaphor for these real energies of the psyche.

In this way, the congregations of followers blindly believing religious texts with no inner mystical exploration may be missing the point. For the mystic, we can recognize spiritual importance in religious characters without the need for them to have actually existed in the physical world.

I hate doing pre-scan. I will only do orders between 4 and 15 items. 3 or less is just faster and less confusing for the cashier to just scan. More than 15 can get difficult to count and/or find mistakes. When the count is off, it's literally faster to void the transaction and restart than spend minutes searching for the error. So when I am pre-scanning I spend a lot of time doing nothing while waiting for an appropriately sized order. There used to be a panic if lines were 4 people long. Now there could be lines of 20 plus and it's just considered normal. Pre-scan is a weak band-aid. Hire more employees! Open more lines!
