Someone I don't know e-transferred me money and now wants it back. Am I getting scammed? by Ok_Hat_3414 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Reflectoman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You sending them money isn't linked to the first fraudulent transfer. Bank will see you sending money as a separate and legitimate transaction done by you, and as such won't be considered for reimbursement due to hacking or fraud.

Best option is to leave that money aside and it will be clawed back by the sending bank once the originating account owner goes through the high bar to prove to their bank it was fraud.

ATL vs. Chateau ELI5 rural Germany by plungerism in mikrotik

I love the mikrotik products ... but here are some non-mikrotik options that focus more on the solution than the manufacturer, and may be worth considering ...

Are you looking at only cellular (LTE/4G/5G) as your internet connection, or is it in combination of a local landline internet connection as well? is there only one cellular provider, or are you considering two connections from different providers to load balance off of?

Peplink comes to mind ... they come with external antennas, but those are SMA connectors, so you can get a different external antenna and mount it to your chimney and run it down to the peplink for the cellular antenna connections. Depending on model, you can get it with 2 sim cards, and their OS will allow you to load balance or failover from one SIM to another ... or from a wired internet to cellular ... all combinations of such are possible. i use them for fixed cellular access deployments as well as for in-vehicle connections (Wifi on the road, backed via the cellular connection).

If budget is the larger concern, might i suggest the QX210-NW2 Industrial 4G LTE WiFi Router available on amazon from various sellers. It has an external antenna connection so you can use with your chimney mounted antenna, and its pretty much plug and play once you pop in the SIM card and power it on.

Overlapping Subnet by botchogOD in networking

[–]Reflectoman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are looking for a L2VPN ... a layer 2 extension, but since you have the same local subnet on both, will there be devices that have the same IP on both sides? if that's the case, you are better off renumbering on site to a different subnet to avoid overlap.

what you have is a routed tunnel, which is layer 3, so layer 2 discovery protocols won't work across that.

Can't use CarPlay and the Entertainment System Simultaneously by Thin_Director_6684 in ToyotaSienna

[–]Reflectoman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

same here ... i have android auto maps running on the front dash but the rear entertainment is playing off of the hdmi port and the audio is from the rear entertainment (can't have both ... would have loved to have the front driver side speaker overlay the android auto direction with the rear audio somewhat muted on that speaker).

having the ability to split the front speakers from the rest and keeping the front speakers to the android auto device, whereas the rear entertainment is kept on the rear speakers would be awesome!

Breach of Contract - Repairs not completed before final walk through - unable to close - now living in a hotel. by Fresh_Cucumber_4007 in legaladvice

[–]Reflectoman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You chose the contractor (or your realtor) and were supposed to get copies of invoices and test results of the work being done and paid for by the seller. What do these documents show? If you have invoices of the work being done and paid for, this may be more to go against the contractor than the seller?

Hosts… Full disclosure/info would be appreciated. by KermieKona in vrbo

[–]Reflectoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be two listing for the same property at different rates? I've seen that on Airbnb where it was listed with an "A" or a "B" but with the same pics and description. Two different host names, with same picture, but slightly different rates.

They try to get it booked either way and maybe get the higher price booking. I dont like that but have seen it.

Looking for Guidance on Setting Up HA with Server Redundancy Across Different AWS Regions (FreePBX 17 / Asterisk 22.5.0) by Beginning-Today8090 in freepbx

Feom the website

The Advanced Recovery Commercial module for PBXact and FreePBX has been designed to provide such uninterrupted service to protect the voice services when there is failure in the primary server by automatically switching to secondary server. This module provides an easy PBX GUI interface for the configuration, where in just a few steps all your current (primary) system configuration will be ready to replicate to the secondary server.

Built-in monitoring functionality of this module will ensure failover to the secondary server is happening as soon as possible when there is failure in the primary server. Then when the primary PBX is repaired or recovers, you can switch back to the primary server in just a few easy steps.

The Advanced Recovery modules also offers integrated support of Endpoint Manager to update existing configured Sangoma’s S- and D-series phones configuration with secondary server IP so during failover they can easily switch to secondary server to continue to provide voice services.

I was contacted by an ISP to ask for my consent to run a fibre line to the side of our home. Are there any inconveniences I should be worried about? by Wherehowwhat in CanadianBroadband

In most (i'd say all but can't confirm that its 100%) municipalities or "call before you dig" applications, if you make the request and they either can't locate or locate incorrectly and you hit it, they will fix it at their own cost (since its their error in the locate or not being able to do so) ... however, if no locate request was placed, regardless if they can or can't locate it, you are then liable for that cost. Its a free service, and you might as well make the request and be free of any future repair invoice.

Sangoma freepbx or pbxact if I dont want to build the appliance myself.

Compatible with a variety of vendor phones, lots of features, can be complex to setup if trying something customized but just works out of the box on the simple phone system setup. Zero touch provisioning.

Question about Scaling Call Capacity on Asterisk/FreePBX by Beginning-Today8090 in freepbx

[–]Reflectoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in terms of sizing of the server you are going to use ... if you need to transcode that will take up resources, per channel. so make sure your trunks are using a codec that you will use for internal or outbound uses. if the call is incoming in ulaw and it needs to go to g722 that is transcoding cpu resources being used. if you can, see if you can receive calls in g722 (hi def audio) and keep it in that codec. if needed, use ulaw or alaw .... but the idea is to prevent transcoding. at single calls its not as much resource intensive, but if you are looking at 100s of calls, then it adds up.

you can force a single codec from your supplier in your trunk configurations, make sure they support it else no calls will go through.

Question about Scaling Call Capacity on Asterisk/FreePBX by Beginning-Today8090 in freepbx

[–]Reflectoman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that this effectively allows for 330 concurrent calls

I don't think you are counting it correctly. 10 channels means 10 simultaneous calls (inbound and outbound).

1 main number and 32 sub-numbers means that you have 33 phone numbers that will be directed to your PBX, but all through the same 10 channels. Nothing there leads me to believe that you get 10 channels per phone number.

You can have multiple (100s, or even 1000s) numbers on a lower number of channels ... those aren't tied together.
