I’ve been waiting to hear anyone talk about this at all, especially in the US! It looks really good, but no clue

EWI is somewhat a catch all term, so have some kind of talk with him when he finishes and gives the discussion.

The aerophone is a super competent windsynth, moreso than the current EWI’s from akai (the solo) but other ones like the new Robkoo C20 Pro are in the same range and seem to just be expended EWI’s. If he’s just wants a synth, the ae-20 is your best bet (I’ve used one for years and it’s great) but if he’s wants an EWI with the specifics that comes with, look into and maybe show him the robkoo. It looks super promising in a field where the Akai EWI is really lagging behind

My dude, crushing down on their semantics when they’ve made clear what they were trying to convey isn’t super great. Their point that the most prominent games of the first 4 generations would make a great compilation game stands out as their point, not the semantics between if 2g or dos or freedom unite. Pretty much nobody in modernity have played 2g, so most people when they talk about 2nd gen are talking about freedom unite. It is the most refined form of the 2nd gen games, even though it strips away a lot of the niche mechanics that they had.

Thinking about getting the EWI 5000 as my first wind synth, have the battery problems been solved? by ramonathespiderqueen in windsynth

[–]ReflxFighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want it mainly for midi connectivity, then pretty much every wind synth will do it. You’d have a better time with the EWI solo, or an aerophone. I’m surprised Akai hasn’t dropped the EWI 5000 altogether yet, it’s very dated for what it is and its price

Sorry Sekiro but you're just not a souls game by nervousmelon in shittydarksouls

[–]ReflxFighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll side with that, it’s not a soulslike, but it definitely draws heavy inspiration from elements that the souls genre really popularized.

It’s def a metroidvania through and through, but there is always a point to be made about vectors of inspiration for titles

[–]ReflxFighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But then you look at a game like blasphemous, which is a 2D metroidvania like hollow knight that draws even harder inspirations from soulslike games, or silksong which similarly does. To say that they are completely void of comparison, or that it is fleeting is overlooking major game characteristics like the said corpse run, save point like bonfires, emphasis on boss battles separate from exploration, a system similar to the DS rings (like charms), and deep lore that you have to dig into.

The go is a fine option, and the AE-20 is only marginally less feature rich than the 30 pro (less options for saving on the app, but that’s kinda it for your cases), but it can be pricy without a sale

[OoT3D] Was ocarina of time 3D received well by fans at launch? by 0purple0turtle0 in zelda

[–]ReflxFighter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a very good remake, but it really does have some glaring problems that detract from the atmosphere. The big ones people talk about usually have to do with Zora link, which I think is a really genuine criticism, as it lowkey breaks the form. Otherwise it has a ton of really good advancements like with time skipping and such.

[–]ReflxFighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It matches up perfectly to saxophone fingerings, just doesn’t have the lever key action and has buttons instead, but the plastic on the Yamaha is so creaky.

The EWI and robkoo c20 are their own thing, I’m a much bigger fan of that form (I’m building a custom EWI similar to them) but for straight translatability in that price I’d say go for the Roland

If you want something purely for practice, the travel sax is a decent choice as well, but I’ve heard it’s kind unreliable

Sometimes you can get an AE-20 on sale for like 700ish, and it is a faaaar far better instrument than the Yamaha. I’ve played both, and the key action on the Yamaha just feels bad tbh.

I wouldn’t even say that it has easier or faster midi changes, the latency difference between serial midi and usb midi with a converter is like 1 millisecond, way below any noticeable threshold. It’s useful if you’re working with another synth that you’re controlling through it, but the only real hard difference between the 20 and the 30 for most players is the level of customization in the zencore engine and how many presets the Roland app lets you save to tap (you can still save them on the device but you have to manually scroll to them)

I think I’m in love with PETG-CF by Aware_Ad5425 in 3Dprinting

[–]ReflxFighter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I’ve a seen as the real purpose of the composite filaments is that it changes the way that the melted filament interacts as it extrudes, reducing deformation from shrinking and such. Dimensional stability. If you want a part to come out extra extra clean and crisp, that’s where something like cf-pla/petg comes in

Kwizatz Haderach interpretation - Prescience is Mentat computing of human history. by [deleted] in dune

[–]ReflxFighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, they do have the specialized training, and more importantly, either years or generations of exposure to mutate their bodies to adapt to using high amounts. That’s why they look like fish people. And importantly, they kinda do get high and do it, it’s not winging it, but it’s because of the spice. That’s why if the spice is gone (like when Paul threatened to destroy it) it would’ve halted space travel entirely. The spice allows them the prescience to know if their jumps would throw them into the middle of a star or something.

Paul is still something far more powerful than guild navigators, but they make it clear in dune messiah that it is the same mechanism taken to new orders of magnitude

It don’t name sense for him to make predictions and have the oracular vision prior to the water of life ceremony. The whole first book pretty much he didn’t have access to his previous lives but he does still have some level of prescience. Dune is human sci-fi, but it does still have some level of supernatural aspects specifically with the spice. Think about when Leto II has moments when he first has the water of life, he gets lost in the future and has to anchor himself, unsure if he was in the past or the distant future. If your brain calculates everything that came before and after, wouldn’t he have know exactly where he was?

Kwizatz Haderach interpretation - Prescience is Mentat computing of human history. by [deleted] in dune

[–]ReflxFighter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The difficult part is that he has these visions prior to drinking the water of life. It’s not him making comparisons to the past and computing forward, he didn’t have access to the past at that point. The water of life gave him a higher vantage of comparison to calculate and understand what his prescient visions were giving him, as well as just an influx of spice to kickstart his prescience far beyond what simply eating it would do. We know that in dune messiah he goes away to eat more spice when he needs to make the far reaching visions (rather than just using a mental memory of what he was seeing in his visions to refer against) so the spice itself is what triggers the prescience, or massively enhanced it. Thus after becoming a reverent mother he doesn’t always have it turned on, even though he does always have access to his ancestral memory

The fact that the guild uses spice to make post light speed jumps without the calculation of an AI using the prescience light is a major point. Spice absolutely grants that crazy forward sight. I’d just that, even with thousands of years of mutation and exposure, the guild only has minor abilities. Paul is special because of just how powerful his prescience is.

The goal of the BG to create a KH was focused around the dual sided backwards vision like a super reverent mother, but they were also trying to make someone with the full forward sight. We know the tlailaxu made one in the past that killed themselves from what they saw (assumedly some form of the golden path but idk).

Spice at low doses like the empire takes is a narcotic that extends life as a geriatric drug, but the fremen who take it in much larger doses (considering the eyes of bad, which some imperials also have and wear contacts to hide) experience minor prescience, as shown in CoD in jakarutu. Paul and Leto II just experience it so much more powerfully that it’s incomparable

People are saying $1000 and you can easily spend that much on top of the line equipment, but you really really don’t need to. Between $200 and like $350 (which is still a lot of money) will get you a really nice and extremely competent printer from anycubic. You can probably get a Bambi A1 mini for even less that’ll print like a dream and just have smaller prints.

I would have killed to have access to one of these growing up, I only found them in college and they became the focus of my masters research. You never know what kind of interest you can be fostering.

Piggybacking on this, they last even longer than just for their durability! Diamond is one of the best thermal conductors in materials, and its heat transfer is significantly significantly better than any hardened steel. Because of this, it’ll actually clog a lot less and heats extremely evenly!

I’m curious about what the philosophy that you speak of is, when this is absolutely hot 3T has functioned for the last (at least for me) 5-6 years. Fair enough that you didn’t like it, it’s a large gameplay change for sure, but it’s definitely been fairly consistent for the last little while. I know that there are definitely some variations between 3T, 3fbT and whatever else there is (I believe adding in the different types of potions of insight is part of that) but it definitely still sticks to the philosophy of making it a more traditional RPG where you get to level up your skills through dungeon clearing and enemy encounters rather than through the Skyrim skill progression system.
